Nope, neither Showcase nor All-American. All-American didn't start with super-heroes until its sixteenth issue (unless you count the sci-fi strip Ultra-Man, which started in #8) and it had super-heroes right up until the end (although the Western feature Johnny Thunder took over the cover for the final three issues). The comic I'm looking for was a super-hero book right from the first issue, and was home to several super-hero features (although only one was ever on the cover; not even Superman in Action Comics can say that!).
The one I'm thinking of was primarily super-hero for almost its entire run, but made a distinct shift to mystery/horror for its final three issues.
And it's not Challs. You were closer with Adventure.
How about... Challengers Of The Well-Known. You know, the ones who dare to drink water. The ones who proudly state they are sure the Earth is round. The ones who are also pretty sure that 2+2 will eventually equal 4, but not always.
Basically, grade schoolers.
No, wait, that book was just stealing DC intellectual property.

When our story opens, the Question is investigating an impossible locked-room murder mystery involving a midget and a 6'6"-tall call girl into heavy bondage. Don't worry, I'll explain later. It's all vitally relevant.

Wouldn't challengers of the well-known refuse to drink water? And state that the Earth is flat? and say that 2+2= Purple people eaters? After all, they're challenging the known, not conforming to it.

Custom Creator, the thread went astray when JTR decided to post in it. Years ago.
I also rep you for that, but only as a partial truth. This particular thread hasn't been around for all that long.
You must be thinking of another, now locked, trivia thread.
Ah ha. It was Inaction Comics, featuring the adventures of that other orphan from Krypton, Subtle Man. The differance was, well, he rode the small rocket bus to earth.
This DC Comics title was published for ten years. Most of that time it featured primarily super-hero content; but for its final three issues changed to a mystery-horror format. Name it.
