I don't want to play a game of chess where dumb luck or money decides whether or not I get to use a rook... Collectibility is a necessary evil of Heroclix, not a boon.
Are we going to have a New Guy Night here in Vegas?
Any idea on time/date/venue?
Thanks!
Hi! How are you? Oh and thanks to Squire for posting the link!
I am the Envoy at the Magic shop (formerly Hoseheads) Flamingo and Buffalo. Which event(s) would you be intrested in attending? How long you been on the Realms?
my new "guy" will actually be a gal, my daughter. She wants to play Heroclix, she hasn't started playing yet, but she gets my JL doubles, got my Phantom Stranger today btw, yaaaaay!
if you read this then you lost 10 seconds you'll never get back.
I might be able to make the one at Hoesheads/LSOM on the 20th... I want to bring my g/f, she is interested and I thought it would be a fun way to start. We might be a little late and we will have my kids in tow as well.
waaagh1 -- would you please email me at kadymae at operamail dot com and tell me who/where/when you heard that Alternate Reality Comics closed? (See, you're not the first person we've heard saying this in the past month and we'd like to know who's giving out that information so that we can clear this up ASAP.)

Hi "Wife of the Owner". Just curious as to how you found this discussion thread - not like this is "main stream" for discussing store closures.
I work at McCarran, so I'll have to stop by for a visit. A friend of mine, Lynn Robison, has written articles for the Sequential Tart, but I've never read anything there. Now that I have the link through your site, guess I have to check it out.

We're still open and still across the street from UNLV.

Hey Batsentry --
A friend of ours (and former employee) here in town sent us the link and thought we might want to know. (How he ended up here, I don't know.)
Hi, Ralph here, owner of Alternate Reality Comics here in Las Vegas for the past 12 glorious years. I've never been in any danger of closing, business is great, I love my customers, and I look forward to coming to my shop every day and talking to people about comics and turning people on to great comics / graphic novels / manga.
My store is a block from UNLV (4800 S. Maryland Pkwy. #D) and a block before the Tropicana / Maryland intersection. Yes, my store is one block from Dreamland Hobbies, a gaming store that closed December 2005 (they were there two years). I only sell comics at my store so for anyone looking for gaming in Vegas, I'd recommend Dark Tower or Hobby Town.
A few weeks ago a long time customer of mine came in and said he'd also heard that my store was closed. I asked him where he'd heard this and he told me that someone at Kool Kollectibles told him this. Also a few weeks ago, a customer at my store was looking or some Star Wars comics I didn't have so I told him to try Kool Kollectibles. He said he was in that shop and when he asked if there were any other comic stores that would also have Star Wars comics, someone at Kool Kollectibles said that there were no other comic stores in Las Vegas. I had a good laugh at that and commented that their definition of comics stores must be very different from mine. Besides my store (the still existant Alternate Reality Comics), other good comics book stores in Las Vegas are: Cosmic Comics, Comic Oasis, Maximum Comics, and Dark Tower.
I've recommended customers from my store to Kool Kollectibles before as a place where they could maybe find comics I was out of because I viewed that as a customer service, but if any other comic store wants to pretend that other comic stores don't exist in Vegas, well they are only going to make themselves look foolish as it's not too difficult for anyone to discover that they've been fed some lets say "misinformation" - and then that person or persons will question why said store is feeding customers that "misinformation".
How deep is your back issue stock on Batman titles? I am working on closing out my "need" list from Batman 400 onward and Detective 500 onward. I'm also looking for older, but I am fairly close to complete from those points to the present. I am buying on ebay, but always willing to help "locals" with sales.
