Wait, now I'm confused. Are these dials so undercosted and power leaping to the point they invalidate everything that came before or are they so vanilla they will never see action again?

I do not think I will buy one figure from this set. I am not a fan of this new change to lower the point cost of figures, to well below the what they used to be, before they started making them. I am starting to wonder if the sales have fallen, due to people not liking them, or many not liking cartoon clix, or 2x2 bases, and Wizkids Power Leaped, to entice people to buy them. I loved the game up to this happening, and now will probably stop buying for now, since I see no signs they will stop with the low cost figures, and I do not like the cartoon figures, as much as I am trying to.
super clixer gets it. I started playing in 2002 after receiving Batman and Spiderman promo figs at wizard world Philly. Making teams then has changed to meta auto play now. you dont even need the hand painted figures now as it is a non interactive card game now that dials are printed and you can look at your opponents hand.
The WWE figs are a return to storytelling with various moves rather than much of the multiverse one trick meta auto play ponies.
Just curious, since you do home games, have you ever tried modifying the point costs or giving some kind of bonus to your older clix?
No & I shouldn't have to.
Edit - PS Since I play both sides, the better balance tends to be put some old on both sides. One problem with this. Heroes get remade so much more so their side has more access to newer pieces. Kind of sad for the villains. I've mentioned it before. Villains remakes are also more likely to be SR's I don't get so again they suffer. I mean when I have newer figures, I tend to use them.
I also don't mess with theme team probs. because both sides are always theme teams so why bother IMO. You want PC, bring someone who has to get out there & position themselves right to use it. That's my preferred style. Since I play both sides, actual random elements like dice rolls are important.
I don't think im ever going to understand the wipespread disappointment that many players have when they know every set will have subthemes. This set has tbolts, masters of evil, and stark industries. Also, this is not a Captain America set...its a Captain America AND the Avengers set
We need a Techno and a classic Fixer, not Techno named Fixer.
We cannot play an uncarded original T-Bolts lineup, and we can't play the Masters behind them, despite this set's claims it has a T-Bolts/MoE subtheme.
I must say I really prefer the meta (undercosted brawlers like Thor chase) over meta (break the game like kobik and unimind). I support general power creep over making some figures the only thing existing in meta. Also are id cards going to be gone with the next rotation?
Even though I am bummed about the Power Creep in this set, it is an overall phenomenal set. Look at how many options have been given to us in the subthemes! So many Thunderbolts, Avengers, and MoEs. You cannot really complain too much about the character selection of this set. They really delivered on the themes.
C
They did not deliver on the subthemes, much at all.
Thunderbolts: They provided some really nice filler with Jolt, Zemo, Atlas, and so on, but we got two versions of the original T-Bolts (Fixer/Moonstone) with their original name in the new costume, which is annoying. Later Bolts like Blackheath and Hawkeye are nice, but we still can't field a full uncarded version of the original scam team.
Avengers: We got plenty of Avengers, but it's mostly the same people we get every set. Blade is nice, but... he doesn't belong in a Cap set.
Masters of Evil: Where do I start? We got like 14 Zemos, between father and son, Citizen V disguise, and so on. He's important, but that's a lot of Zemo. I would have loved to have had the original Masters behind the Thunderbolts scam, but ... nope! While we didn't get a Josten Goliath, we did get his Power Man alias and another Atlas. The Masters we got seem to be more Iron Man villains or even Thor villains than Cap foes. Oh well.
Power Elite: This is a relatively new group, apparently. I'm not sure how accurate the team members are, but I would've preferred more of a classic team of villains.
Serpent Society: One freaking figure.
Skeleton Crew: Skull, Machinesmith, and Faustus are in - but Faustus was never a Crew member. Still no Sleeper, Voice, Mother Night, Cutthroat, or Minister Blood.
SHIELD: We got a decent amount of SHIELD folks, but we'd gotten most of them fairly recently. We got a Roz Solomon, but I don't really know who that is.
Hydra: We got more than a handful of Hydra people, though I would've liked a generic Hydra agent, or even a new Bob. Dario and his monster form get into the group, but I don't think they're actually IN Hydra. Dario should've been in the Thor set, though.
AIM: This one is interesting, though it's odd that Dario, Songbird, Taskmaster, Skull and others share it - though I guess this is more about the different AIM teams, and they just happen to use the same keyword.
This set tries to cram a bunch of unrelated stuff into one set, and everything is left wanting. I'd really rather preferred they focused on Cap's history with Invaders, Skeleton Crew, Howling Commandos (human and monster), Cap's Kooky Quartet, Dimension Z, Nowhere, SHIELD Super-Agents, Watchdogs, John Walker's Super-Patriot/Captain America/US Agent, and on and on.
I've posted quite a bit in this thread to complain, but I mean, if this wasn't the set to give us some deep Cap stuff, then what is?

Im sorry but I refuse to nitpick over the alias not exactly lining up with the outfit the piece is wearing, when they are represented in the ways that matter like powers and keywords. If I was about that life, I would have never enjoyed sfosm zemo because his real name was Heinrich. Or abpi captain marvel when majority of the time she never had that name, but has MoE, Tbolts, and Dark Avengers keywords.
Are the original tbolts respresented?
Zemo/Citizen V - yes, with cool mechanic to change to Zemo
Goliath/Altas - yes
Techno/Fixer - yes, last time he was respresented was not even oreo dial
Moonstone/Meteorite - yes, and more than one in modern
Beetle/Mach X - yes
Jolt - yes, we just got 2
Screaming mimi/Songbird - yes
Most of them, we had great versions that just retired, too.
I will most certainly run them and I intend to do it often. If you can't enjoy them solely because of the name given to them, then truly feel for you but only so much. I can't see how you would enjoy much of this game with that standard. But at least you have something. DC fans have to make do with a set per year and ff4 folks haven't gotten anything since what, 2012-13?
Winning the game means little if it is not with the characters that I would want to win!

Here’s my take if you like the set great go buy it.
If you don’t that’s your opinion don’t buy it, however also don’t go calling it crap and complaining because the game is changing and your 5,10, and 15 year old pieces can’t compete. News flash the new pieces aren’t supposed to compete with the old stuff.

I agree with every word. The people that you are describing in your last paragraph make me shake my head. They are so beholden to a specific criteria of what they want the game to be, that it has become impossible for them to enjoy it for what it is. Such a shame.
