Beloved... DBZ? There are far better animes out there... I should know, I have completed nearly 60 series on DVD. The problem with the original DBZ was the slow moving episodes with long pointless self reflection dialogue that served no purpose. The best series are also much shorter. Bleach started out well enough, but they found ways of making that drag too... And then have more arcs when the first one was fine when it concluded. My favorite animes are: chobits, ergo proxy, and "X". Samurai champloo is also great... Much better than dbz
Why ON HELL would you think i'm only talking about the anime when i talk about DB or DBZ ? I enjoyed the manga (the one on paper) and the characters. And i agree with you with the slow moving episodes (and bad "fillers"). But the manga is great and the property is awesome.
Are there things much better ? perhaps to your taste. But for me, dragonball is one of the most awesome japanese shonen manga of all time. Even comics books, which i love by the way, have A LOT to learn in continuity and consistency from the manga scene like DB
And of course nostalgia plays a big part in it, but that's the case also for all the very loud crowd of TMNT fans here (i'm not interested in TMNT and don't understand the huge love of US people for this license, yet... i respect it)
As a sidenote : Comparing DB or DBZ to some story only created to marketise a trading card game like Yu Gi Oh is just heresy to my eyes.
Yet i have nothing against this yu gi oh property or their players. And you won't see me complain about new licenses since i know nobody will force me to buy or play those. I hope the fans will enjoy it and think perhaps it will slow down the releases on comic-book properties as well which is good for me.
Are these ppl real? "Ohhhh they're bringing a lot of burglars, pirates and hos to the game thanks to yugioh! plz god nooo!" Lol. Don't like Yugioh, don't buy it.
If you're venue sale games, probably, Yugioh makes 70% of the sales, heroclixs is fun but to be honest, is the little game that 4 dudes plays in the corner, so, say that "this is going to ruin heroclixs/my venue" it's going to far.

You really think Yugioh product sales would outstrip Magic, Pokemon, Heroclix, and assorted other properties/licenses combined, let alone individually? I have a doubt.

True. I think if you asked most gaming venues what their number one item in terms of sales were they'd most likely respond with Magic the Gathering. I know some venues that would find it hard to support themselves without the profits from Magic packs, singles, and events.

I support anything that brings more ho's to the game.

Our game store doesn't even carry YGO.

Man, this thread is a nice reality check for me. See, I played Yugioh for years. Loved the card game, loved the source material (moreso when the characters engaged in any game of chance rather than just the cards), and I still love watching Yugioh Abridged (funniest abridged channel on youtube right now). I had a group of friends who also played, and we loved the hell out of it. When out interest in the game died, I made the transition to another collectible strategy game: Heroclix. Sad to see that if I had mentioned my past love of Yugioh I would have been shunned by several players here. Love the open minded approach people are taking.
And before everyone cites examples of people cheating/causing problems amongst the Yugioh crowd, do I really need to remind folks how many threads we get on hcrealms about folks cheating (lots) or about folks getting unreasonable and violent (a few)? It's not like the fanbase for Heroclix is some spotless group of altruistic angels.
I say it's best to just wait and see which kind of Yugioh fans get attracted to your local Heroclix events. If they're relatively normal people, all well and good. If they have disruptive personalities, your judge should just handle it the way that he/she would with any other troublesome player.
On a more positive note, if we get monsters I hope we get Relinquished. I love that weird alien bug-looking design.
I was actually going multi-quote my way through this, but now I don't have too. The judgement and anti-judgement is pretty harsh in this thread and the half-dozen others all kvetching about this. Owlman provides a perfect condemnation of that behavior here...well said Owlman.
Remember everybody, the plural of anecdote is not evidence.

Thanks, mate. I just think clixers should give a Yugioh player the same courtesy they afford any other newcomer to the game. It's up to the Yugioh fan, like any other player, to abide by acceptable social behavior or face the consequences.
All the hate/bias beyond that is just the same old nerd-vs-nerds stereotype that I hate seeing crop up. Don't like like an intellectual property or license? Fine. Don't like a fan of that license based on that fan's personality and behavior? Makes sense. Don't like someone based solely on the games they play or the fictional characters they enjoy? That's a very hostile, unfortunate approach to life.
Here is the thing....I dont care if they clix YGO. I'm not into the characters, etc. I wont be getting them .If anybody else is happy about this then good, more power to you and I hope you like the figures.
With that being said...I think this is a losing prospect for WK/NECA.Its like Haloclix. Real hardcore Halo fans want to play HALO...on their consoles. There is a minority who may migrate over to table top 3D mini's of there favorite Halo characters but I believe those are few and far between.
I think this also applies to YGO...I dont see many fans of the card game they love so much making the jump to play YGO heroclix ...

I had 20 people at my Spiderman sealed event two weeks ago. Heroclix is a huge money maker at my venue. It is always in the top ten sales list posted in the alliance preview book, multiple times and usually taking up the first slot. Maybe your venue is doing it wrong.

Not to pile on the "our anecdotal evidence is better than yours" train, but the venue I play gave up on Yu-Gi-Oh because they couldn't sell enough to make it worthwhile. Currently they only sell and support Magic: the Gathering and Heroclix.
I think everyone in this thread (okay, almost everyone) should back away from all the anecdotes and hearsay. Do I like Yu-Gi-Oh? No. Do I really want it in Heroclix? Not really. Do I think every Yu-Gi-Oh player is a greasy, violent, foul-mouthed thief? Not at all. No need to perpetuate gamer stereotypes here, really.

I think you meant to say Magic makes 70% of the sales. Nice use of the language, btw.
I didn't know if he was a rube, a souse, a wiseacre, a hophead, or a bright-boy, but I knew for sure that I didn't like him.

Ergo Proxy (and most of the rest of the Adult Swim lineup) won't sell toys though.

What makes me sad about it is that it gets a full set and a starter while other licenses just get a 24 figure or less GF set.
Before long the number of non-comic Heroclix figures will outnumber the comic Heroclix figures. Maybe then they will all be released as modern age.
It does seem very focused on tapping into the kid market, which is a good thing overall, because it brings new players to the game. Hopefully that also means we'll move to simpler rules for newer players as well. You're also right about some groups getting full sets and some getting <10 figures. You're also probably right about comic VS non-comic licenses leading to...well you're just right I guess.

You're silly.
I'm not a Yu-Gi-Oh fan, but if we get more properties maybe something I like (like TMNT or DB or Beakman's World) will get clix. In the meantime, I might pick up one or two singles...but only if I find out that Joey has a power called "Brooklyn Rage."
