And the first thing he does is defend him...
Ummm...no I didn't .
It is probably the most ignorant post I've evr seen on these boards, and I'm including the countless "Firelord is borken" et al threads.
Expresso is European (Italian, if I'm not mistaken), as is coffee originally. Canada is in North America, and was a British/French colony. North America is not in Europe.
I think the reference to ESPRESSO here was a dig at the fact Canada is half-English, half-French. Both in Europe. Both big coffee drinkers. When ale or wine or waify pubescent boys aren't available, anyway.
Someone needs an atlas. We're the country to the north of the US. Quebec is merely one provinve, and french is scarcely spoken outside it (as a dominant language).
Berets are worn by your some of your elite military forces, correct?
Um...yeah. Groucho Marx used to wear one too. Point?
It was a response to teh assertion that berets were inherently effeminate (is that a word?)
Our government is modeled after the British system, while your is loosely patterned after the Roman system. Last I checked, the British system was the model for democracy (see Magna Carta, 1215) while the Roman system degraded into a decadent culture that was corrupt at its core and was subsequently abandoned by the free world. Our system is a democracy while yours is a republic. There is a difference. We have a Charter of Rights and Freedoms which contains basic rights such as free speech, right to vote, etc much like your constitution. We, as a people, are against censorship. Again, a difference between our cultures.
How can you be BOTH modeled after Britain AND a democracy when Britain has been a MONARCHY since, oh...the Iron Age? And what censorship does America have? Except for the fact every good word here is replaced by #####
Constitutional Monarchy. In Canada the Queen has no real power.
Censorship? Serioulsy? Ummm...let's start with banned books in schools, the whole Superbowl fiasco, "Free Speech zones", etc.
Compared to your government, yes we are more Socialist. Can't argue that, it's pretty much a fact. ADD? We have quite a stable system, actually. The party in control changes no more frequently than yours, I imagine. Our multi-party system does allow for more opinions to be expressed at the highest level of government, though.
We exist at your sufference? That's funny. See: NORAD, NATO, War of 1812, NAFTA, etc. It's in everyone's best interest for us to coexist. Please don't take us with you when you implode, though.
Actually...like it or not, like the Dutch, the British and the Romans, America DOES kinda run things right now. I am sure we will be replaced sometime, but yeah, every single one of us down here pretty much knows we could take over Canada with a board with a nail in it. Y'all ARE part French, you know.
Dude, I never said the US didn't run things. You'd need good mitts. It's cold up here.
A joke to the rest of the world? Have you ever travelled outside of North America? Canadians are well respected world-wide. We are welcomed in many countries, and have prevented bloodshed through our peace keeping efforts. Many Americans identify themselves as Canadians when abroad (flags on backpacks, etc) because of the animosity towards Americans.
Let's use this time to check off the ways Canada has improved the world during their existence...
Um...Chris Jericho and Bret Hart come to mind, um...
Moving on!
Not so fast, superstar. I got me a quick list off the top of my head.
Insulin
The Telephone
Superman (see, I'm on topic!)
Electron Microprobe
Basketball
Baseball (Played here before the US)
Film developing tank
First heart valve operation
First patented lightbulb
Pacemaker
retractable beer carton handle
Zipper
Torching the White House
William Shatner
Kids in the Hall
Phil Hartman
Most of "your" funny comedians....
etc
Granted this doesn't make up for Celine Dion....
Rightly or wrongly, Americans are regarded internationally as: arrogant, insular, poorly educated, militaristic, and meddling. I'm not saying I agree with that assessment, but it is common opinion internationally.
It is sad, but I beleive that international opinion would be much higher if Gore, Clinton (somehow), Dole, etc were in power instead of George W. Bush. He's perceived as being less than...intelligent, by the international community and by many Americans.
But y'all sure come a-running when you need your tuchus rescued don't ya! Clinton was a disgrace. The reason he is so respected by y'all is because he matched your depravity. DOLE? You mean the Viagra guy? HE would have been better? Oh yeah, you rock, dude.
Huh? When have you saved us? Our depravity? Huh? I'm not arguing my opinion here. I'm just saying that Bush isn't highly regarded internationally. Reading comprehension is important, chum.
Sorry (there I go, apologizing as any good Canuck would) if any of this seems condescending or rudimentary. It seemed as though you had never read of a book, or been educated in any way, so I felt it best to start with the basics.
I GOT IT! CANADA'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD!
1) Money with beavers on it
2) Moose roadkill
3) When something needs insulting but it isn't French-worthy
4) ...nuts. That's all of them
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to take my Dog Sled out to the Fur Traders Depot. I ran out of bacon and maple syrop, and my igloo needs some repair work before the other trappers come over to watch the big Bonspiel tonight.
So let me close with words you can understand:
Ribbit
Ribbit
Ribbit
For the record, the French unconditionally surrendered to the english in Canada. Western Canada is more english than California, and don't even get me started on Louisiana.
Let the user warnings begin! [/b]
Now, I'm letting it go at that. This isn't the thread, nor the forum. Let's just get back to watching the whine-fest as people bemoan their missing Galacti.
PS. I don't know if we get Tech TV up here in the Great White North (I've never seen it), so I'll have to take your word on Miss Webb. :disappoin

She doesn't have much power over in the UK either
As was said, Constitutional Monarchy. Pretty much from the end of the 19th Century the monarchy has been a figurehead, with all real power in Parliament. Parliament has had at least some power over the monarchy all the way back to the Magna Carta.
And no, Britain wasn't a monarchy since the Iron Age. First it was tribal, then small areas ruled by so-called kings. Then the Romans came in and held on until the fall of the Roman Empire. The British formed loose alliances between their leaders, but there wasn't a solidly unified monarchy until around the Norman invasion (1066), long after the Iron Age. The lack of one true king is one of the reasons of the strength behind the Arthurian myths.
Why yes, I was a history major back in college. Why do you ask?
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell is best known for his invention of the telephone. Many inventors had been working on the idea of sending human speech by wire, but Bell was the first to succeed.
The invention of the telephone grew out of improvements Bell had made to the telegraph. He had developed the "harmonic telegraph" which could send more than one message at a time over a single telegraph wire. Bell reasoned that it would be possible to pick up all the sounds of the human voice using an adaptation of the "harmonic telegraph." In 1875, along with his assistant Thomas A. Watson, Bell constructed instruments that transmitted recognizable voice-like sounds.
Bell's first telephone patent was granted on March 7, 1876. Three days later he and Watson, located in different rooms, were about to test the new type of transmitter described in his patent. Watson heard Bell's voice saying, "Mr. Watson, come here. I want you." Bell had upset a battery, spilling acid on his clothing. He soon forgot the accident in his excitement over the success of the telephone transmitter. The first telephone company, Bell Telephone Company, was founded on July 9, 1877.
After inventing the telephone, Bell continued his experiments in communication. He invented the photophone-transmission of sound on a beam of light, the precursor of fiber-optics. He also invented techniques for teaching speech to the deaf. Bell was granted 18 patents in his name, and 12 he shared with collaborators. Alexander Graham Bell died in Baddek, Nova Scotia, on August 2, 1922.
as fro superman:
Who created Superman?
Jerry Siegel (writer)(born: Cleveland, Ohio on October 17, 1914) and Joe Shuster (artist)(whose family had moved to Cleveland from Canada)
"Inspired in part by Philip Wylie's novel "Gladiator", and in part by the Samson & Hercules legends, the redesigned "Superman" was put together in comic strip form as early as 1932, and then as a comic book in 1933. Unfortunately, when the comic book was rejected, Shuster destroyed the artwork. Fortunately, Siegel had rescued the cover art."
"big break came. In 1938, as they tried to peddle the character to DC again they wound up in the office of Max Gaines, the publisher of the All American label. Max wasn't interested in Superman, but Sheldon Mayer was starting a new title at sister company DC and needed a cover feature, so he sent the pair over to the office with their hero tucked under their arms and Sheldon decided to take a shot with the Superman, giving him the cover of the first issue of Action Comics dated June 1938"

Welcome to the real world, snayson... the real world where there are unions and expenses. To begin with, there is the transportation costs just getting that many Galacti to LA. You COULD scab out the driver's job, but that would have gotten them in a huge amount of trouble from the Teamsters. Then there is parking, or more accurately, storage. Typically, they leave the product on the truck. At least they have in past conventions. That means security and parking. Close enough to get the product, yet far enough away for the attendees to park. Highly doubtful you will find both. Loading and unloading stuff from a truck is a Union job. No one else can do that without serious fines.
All in all, taking 2000 Galactus figures to ANY convention was way out of the question.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.

sorry but i see what it cost for freight and storage. They don't cost that much or in your words "astronomical". It may cost "astronomical" to you. If it cost topps/wiz kids alot to fregith stuff around, they need to negotiate a better cost or switch over to a different carrier.

as for 2000 Galactus figures, way to much at a convention. If they brought that much peices, they might as well made it a regular offered game peice instead of limited. If it's going to be limited, it better be limited. That's the whole idea of having exclusive's, rare and have bragging rights if you are lucky to get one.
He is not kidding about the Teamsters. I attended an OLLO, (on-line learning organization) conference several years back at the LA convention center. You will actually get in trouble (up to being removed from the premisis) for breaking the union rules. For example. I was not allowed to carry anything to our booth that I could not lift easily by hand. If I had to drag, roll, or dolly an item, it had to be done by union labor. Also, I almost got in trouble for moving the wires that had been laid by our booth electrition for our computers and internet access. Luckily the guy who busted me understood that I wasn't used to heavy union regulations being from the east and called over a guy to help me.
Also we couldn't just park our car in the loading dock, even though it had all of our supplies in it. We could unload at the dock (using laborors where appropriate) If it was there for more then a few minutes unattended they get a tow truck out there pretty quick. So you cannot just park a truck around the back of the Convention center with 20 palates of Galacti in it. Every time you needed to get a new palet from the truck you would have to get a guy to go get the truck, get a different guy to unload the palate, since union jobs are specialized and a driver cannot unload.
Keep in mind this is what I remember from a conference over 4 years ago for about three days. But it was so different then here in Virginia that I remembered it pretty well. Oh, and I didn't have to deal with drivers since we had a car and not a truck load of stuff, so that is speculation on my part from what I have read.
Oh, another thing to keep in mind is that although it may be a pain in the keester, we didn't have to pay for the laborers, so there is no incured cost for utilizing convention hall labor. It is factored into the cost of the convention center when they rent the hall to the event organizer who recoups costs from vendors and patrons. So union was actually pretty cool, for me. I had to do little to no setup, I had to set up much more myself in VA. And if something goes haywire, there are tons of people to worry about it... well, unless it was our software... in which case, you just take the pain.

ps - Pericles: Put down your expresso, take your beret off and stuff it where the sun don't shine. I guess we should all model ourselves after a government like yours based on A.D.D. and we can all be socialist panty wastes with no value. You only exists at our sufferance. Do you even understand what a joke you are to the rest of the world? Go back to watching hockey or curling or whatever the hell you do up in no man's land.
Or to put it another way, I think Homer Simpson said it best: "I live in America... why would I want to visit America Junior?"
personally, my opinion, making it a Con Exclusive wasnt the brightest idea. they shouldve made it special like the sentinel. gets its own box and everything.
I didnt go to WWLA, infact unless my venue gets one my on ly chance is origins cause I dont travel much. Could that be the reason for my opinion? Probably
but I also believe that alot of people wouldve felt better then spending lots of cash to spend lots of cash for a galactus.
It wouldve been alot nicer since the Galactus itself is a special piece with Special Rules. its own game.
all well, what ya gonna do.
Of course a company not trying to create artifical scarcity would take the high demand for Galactus as a sign that they should release it to the mass market.
