I'm all for closing this. There are folks in this thread who can't argue, can't manage to readjust their opinions when presented with other perspectives, and who I hope I never have the misfortune of meeting in real life.
There are enough opportunities to bang my head against a wall IRL. There's a wall not five feet from my cube. There's no point in me continuing to try to teach people who don't give a #### about learning, but care a whole hell of a lot about "winning" an online conversation (and, if there's something more pathetic, I can't think of it at present).

Did you happen to actually read the page to which you link?
It has lists synonyms for compensation in its various forms.
Stipend does not appear in any of those lists. It appears in a separate list of related words.
He doesn't care. He's of the increasingly loud and numerous category of Americans who subscribe to the mantra of "I believe, therefore I'm right." Waste of time.

I know, but it is always fun to take the "evidence" someone feebly tries to use to support a position and show how it actually supports the other side.
That took thirty seconds... Your entire first half of the rant is wrong... Way to accuse me of something you did not due yourself....
Respectfully, just because something is a Synonym does not mean it is the same. Synonyms are words with similar meaning that can be used in place of the other word - for instance 'hit' and 'slammed.' I can write a sentence with the word 'hit' and write the same sentence with the word 'slammed' and still have the same general meaning. HOWEVER, the details of the word and the word's meaning are still relevant.
This is where Synonyms become useful as writers and other media producers can only use the same word so many times before people get bored. For examples, go see a list of the synonyms for 'said.' Or read a well written novel ; said will be used a lot but there will be other synonyms scattered in there to give meaning and word variety. In fact, those synonyms are present to give more specificity to the scene and emotion. Hence why the differences between the synonyms is important.
In the case of 'hit' it is a more generic term, while 'slammed' denotes something that would be stronger or more fierce. Batman tends to 'hit' things but Superman is more likely to 'slam' them.
Batman HIT the Joker in the face, knocking him back.
Superman SLAMMED Lex Luthor in the face, knocking him back.
Such as the difference between 'stipend' and 'compensate' that are pointed out above.
TL:DR - Synonyms are words that have SIMILAR meanings but are NOT the same.
You jumped on stipend not being a synonym bandwagon
No, I didn't. Never once used the word synonym, nor did I say anything having to do with synonyms. Though I'm sure you're going to argue against that fact as well.
I don't understand why the people who are quickest to argue tend to be the absolute worst at it. Literally all you're concerned about is "winning." HINT: these sorts of discussions? Yeah, they can't be "won."
Seriously, your stubbornness is preventing you from grasping something as simple as "volunteerism does not necessarily mean that someone does something for absolutely nothing." You flatly will not cop to that, despite several people, experts, and organizations (see the report I posted) telling you that that's the case. Including me, who works with and around volunteers for a ####ing living.
So...yeah. Who's the troll again?

Remember when we were called Envoys? Dating myself a bit but I literally had to look up what that was.
noun
1. a diplomatic agent.
2. any accredited messenger or representative.
3. Also called envoy extraordinary, minister plenipotentiary. a diplomatic agent of the second rank, next in status after an ambassador.
Yeah....that didn't quite fit either. All I know is weekend in and weekend out I'm there for the players, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're there for me. Players show up whenever the hell they want, I'm there. For an OP kit LE worth what...2-3 bucks? I don't event want to break the time down cause it's basically been done.
I volunteer because I love the game and I like the community. Trust me, my time is practically free as far as Im concerned and there are perks once in a blue moon like getting the grand prize in a 4-6 month SLOP. Judges got Nekron, Thanos, the Batcave, the Quinjet, etc....I don't see a difference here if a judge gets a grand prize set.

Um, if you're the guy who has made the last post on the topic before it gets closed down by the mods, then I'm pretty sure that means you've won.
I feel like that is true both on HCRealms and in life.
