Just because this is still getting new readers and whatnot, I thought I would reiterate some of the basic points:
1) Larfleeze does all of the attacking and poisoning from the square he occupies on the map. Larfleeze considers characters adjacent to or in the same square as Constructs to be adjacent to him, not the other way around.
2) The Constructs are objects, not characters, and they are treated like any object, though they are neither light, heavy, nor immobile. They cannot be picked up, but they can be carried (if Sargon switches a carried object with a Construct).
3) The Constructs move whenever Larfleeze is moved, even if he is moved by someone else, even if he ends his move in the same square he started in.
4) Currently, if you outwit Larfleeze's damage SP, all of the constructs go away.
5) Currently, the Constructs stop their movement when entering hindering terrain, but not when the come adjacent to characters opposing Larfleeze. Also, currently, there is no penalty for starting your movement in hindering terrain.
6) Currently, if a Construct is being held, Larfleeze can no longer attack/poison through them because the objects are not continual.
I believe that issues 4 and 5 have yet to be completely resolved. The way I have them worded is they way they should currently be played, but we will know shortly if that will remain the same forever.
Please correct me if I am wrong on these issues. Keeping these points in mind will answer the vast majority of your questions (if there is another relevant point that is not addressed with these 5 points (or especially 1-3), let me know and I will add them.
If an orange construct is being held, via Sargon's item-swap power, can Larfleeze still poison and make close combat attacks through it? Does it work as if the orange construct token is occupying the same square as the character carrying it?

No, because they are not continual objects (also, it is undetermined where the objects are when they are being carried, and if they are considered occupying the same square as they character carrying them). Added that to the comment above.
I wouldn't think that would matter though, because the expanded-adjacency ability is a function of Larfleeze's trait, not a special-object ability.

That's the part I was hoping had been determined. So the short answer is that nobody knows yet?

Correct. But the object's special proponent is that Larfleeze can attack through them. It is part of his ability, but that is still a way they can be viewed. Since they are not continual, any affect they have (Larfleeze being able to attack/poison through them) do not take effect.

But... the Orange Constructs don't have special proponents and they don't have any effects. On their own (if there was some way for them to exist without Larfleeze being on the board), they are just non-light, non-heavy object tokens that can't be picked up. They have no special powers that would be blanked once they are picked up.
Consider: if Larfleeze's trait replaced "Orange Constructs" with "light objects", would he no longer be able to attack through standard light objects once they have been picked up, because they aren't continual? No, because they never had any special abilities to begin with. It's Larfleeze's ability that allows HIM to reach through them and attack someone.
It's like when Aquaman uses his regeneration that only works in water. The water terrain isn't actually doing anything. It's all Aquaman's power. The water is just a condition he need to meet in order to activate his power.
