When I first started playing we didn't do timed rounds but rather we each had ten turns. I thought that worked out alot better. Granted some games got done way before others.....
I still wish that in timed tournaments each player would get the same amounts of turns. Kind of like last ups in baseball. If the first player has begun a turn he would complete it fully and the second player would have the opportunity to have all his actions.
While I agree with the latter sentiment in principle, the first player can't really do anything to the second player until they have had a turn, so it isn't a major issue.
The ten turn games I remember, but they led to their own kind of abuse. If I get up on points, I could just start running if I know how many turns are left, as well as it allowing me to alter my strategy. If I know I get to go last, then why not push everyone, even if it wouldn't otherwise make sense?
As it is now, if I just try to hide everyone, there may be enough time for my opponent to press the attack and take out a figure, and maybe even get the victory, and when the judge says "last action", it still allows for a push, but only on a single figure, as opposed to my entire force.
The "ten-turns and done" variant was really bad, considering that there are only a handful of figures/strategies that work well in that environment (primarily ranged attackers and their support pieces).

I recall a write-up of an very early larger tournament where the two teams in the finals were nearly identical (Wasp, Firelord, Black Panther). After positioning just outside of each other's move-and-attack range, they passed until the last possible turns. One their 10th turns, they moved up and attacked. One of them got a one shot kill and the other didn't.
My personal experience with the 10 turn rounds is that some games would get done in about 1/2 hour, but others would drag on for over an hour and a half. The timed tournament rounds make for less standing around over all, at least.
TRADES. eBay.
An Admin told me that I'm "too smart" for Another Realm. I hold that as a standing order.
