We didn't use card board, starting areas or pt totals-standard or double bases only.Players took turn placing 1 fig. at a time, until the map was full. The player(s) w/ the most double base figs went last.
Always used the same map, the Avengers mansion I think-cause it is small.
We always capped it at 1 turn-this made it likely to play, at least a few w/ Leadership/JLA/Avengers
We "house ruled" wild cards-can't copy Mystics or the Indy TA like it.
lots of wild cards, IJ, & MoE(this was before it was changed).
PulseWave was great for dealing alot of damage.
It was always a blast!! But took all day. ALL DAY! We would start(on Sat. only) around 10/11am the last 2 players around 2/3am! More than once going to 5/6am. That was the good ol days! I still miss it.
Later we altered it to a set amount of squares(8x8;9x9 usually being the norm). Depending on how big a brawl we wanna throw. And named it Rage in a Cage. Sadly its been almost 2 years since we played this style.
We did one in Jacksonville today. 3 people with 248 figs a piece. We put two arena maps together and just commenced the slaughter. Our game lasted for about 4 1/2 hours. Total death count was around 35 figs or so. We had a blast with the format. It took us about an hour to set up the whole thing. We should have some pics up tomorrow on the tournaments board, just look for the post advertising Jacksonville Fl. The sad thing is we are talking about doing one again. Overall it was a great time.

How many actions did you take per turn? That seems to be the thing that's got me hung up the most. I did like the idea of increasing actions by one each turn, but that would be a little ridiculous by the end.
How dealt with that was "if you can attack...you attack". Basically you just went down the line and attacked or if you had Giant or some on elavated terrain and could make an attack you attacked. Organized chaos with pushing damage in effect.
