I'm one of the guys who was lucky enough to buy one. I got mine for 129.99 plus 12 for shipping. It looks like he raised the price to 149.99 though for the last one he had.
My take on each below. Doesn't mean much, but just fostering the rules discussion until official preview/release:

If you are playing option A (1 continuous battle) and you go from Issue 4 with 2x2 Thanos to Issue 5, you are forced to go to 6x3 Thanos. How is he placed on the map? Instead of 4 squares he is now 18 squares, and is growing mid-game. While the optionality of going 2x2 for Issue 4 is questionable, we know it is not optional for Thanos to stay 2x2 for Issue 5.
I'm sure other people will have other questions, but this was the big thing that popped out to me as I was transcribing the card to the forum.
I'd say that you would start him where he would need to be. If you're only playin the 2x2 version, then you cannot use the 3x6 base. And if you are playing him at a level where he may switch from the 2x2 to the 3x6, then he would be played on the 3x6 base for the entirety of that game, even wen using the dial on the 2x2 base.
There need be no shrinking/growing issues with Thanos' Issues.

I like that. It sure does alleviate the issues. BTW, all of his dials have been spoiled now in a new thread. Can't link from my phone.

I haven't checked, but has there been a ruling on the Convention Apocalypse? He can grow from a single base to a 3X6 base so I'm guessing his placement rules would be the same as Thanos here.
I know they recently added this to the player's guide. I wonder if they'll make a similar ruling for characters who change base sizes during play:
Quote
If multibase character can’t fit within your starting area due to terrain features (Blocking terrain, changes in elevation, etc), you may extend your starting area so that the character will fit. If extending your starting area will not create the necessary space you may instead place the multibased character in your starting area and treat all squares it occupies as if they were clear terrain of the same elevation as long as the multibased character is not moved or placed into other squares. Once the multibased character no longer occupies those squares, they revert to their original terrain and elevation type.

Con Apoc cannot AE if he doesn't have the space to expand.
The ruling is on here somewhere lol (on phone, can't/won't link properly).
Well I can understand that, because it's not a big deal to prevent using a power. In the case of Thanos, if you're playing multiple dials and KO Issue 4, he needs to somehow fit to create Issue 5. I doubt that there would be a ruling that just lets you KO a 1000 point dial that easily.
I'm sure there will be some sort of errata or clarification that allows Thanos to be placed in the nearest available space.
If not, well then we just found a way to easily KO Thanos.
