That's a really ingenious way to deny your opponent points

Nope. Won't work. Rule book, page 6:
Victory Points When one or more characters
replace a character that began the game on your
force, and all replacement character(s) are KO’d,
award victory points equal to the point value of
the replaced character that began the game on
your force, unless the value of the replacement
character(s) is higher.
If both bystanders are KO'd, you'd score the full 140.

No, your opponent gets the higher points of the duo or the split figures if both are Ko'd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”
Errata to make it non-unique wouldn't matter, though: the single versions still aren't correctly named to use Split/Merge, are they? So the best you could do would be two of them to represent Coleen and Misty working separately but on the same team? I was hoping for single versions myself, so if that's your issue I'm on-board.
I hate so personally I would never would have merged them anyway unless it was some random advantageous situation.
It just blows my mind that when they introduce a new mechanic not 6 months ago (split/merge) have a character perfectly designed to take advantage of said mechanic, clearly design a duo with specific individual dials, that they then slap a silver ring on the dial...
Its either idiocy or spite.
I just bought 2 of them and will be making the necessary mods so I can enjoy them the way I believe they should have been designed.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

Being unique does have the advantage of likely making it easier to acquire, since people won't be looking to snatch up 3 of them.
