I think before each and every time. On the street, I ball up a fist just before. On the internet, I just crack a big crap-eating grin and remember that it doesn't matter.
I have Brother Voodoo and have used him in a game that didn't matter. I didn't use him correctly, cause I'm an idiot, only using the mind control every turn and I still felt dirty. I look at him every week we have a OP tournament but have yet to use him again. Even though we see Fantomex and other 'fun' pieces...
I pulled Ghost Rider several months ago but have not used him. Again, still think about it when planning an OP tournamnet team, but always find something else to use.
Just pulled Highfather and may just trade him away.
Pretty sure that would be my response had I owned any of them.
There is no way I'm not getting Highfather. I don't care how stupid WK made him. If there's a reason to want the character, then I'll want them. Same reason I have and play crappy lil Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I already blew off steam today toward the judge where I play, going off about resources and my negative view of them, so I'm not gonna repeat it here. If I did, the very bottom line would be that people should play whatever they want to play, and that includes me. If I get stomped like a bug because I choose to give away a big advantage by not playing the most powerful pieces, then that's on me, not them.
Yes, it does, but that still doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Because as Alfndrate above you said, if you're gonna enter to win a prize, then you should play to win. And cheese wins prizes.
Wait, that makes him a bad person overall? 'Cause I was thinking of doing the exact same thing, if points and format allow

- Comparing HeroClix to Olympic events is HCRealms Classic Blunder Number Two. HeroClix takes practice to understand the rules and play them correctly. HeroClix requires experience to teach one to not send one's entire team out to be slaughtered. HeroClix takes luck. I'm going to restate that one: HeroClix takes LUCK.
Any real sport (and we can argue about Curling and Synchronized Swimming all you like) takes training, endurance, talent, dedication, and blood, sweat, and tears. Learning the rules, not breaking them, and doing your best to win within those rules is the most rudimentary part of any athletic activity. It's everything beyond those things that makes it worthy of being an Olympic event and exactly what separates it from board games.
A game of plastic figures decided by dice rolls simply does not compare in any meaningful way, I don't care how much time and effort you're dedicating to your "training" for it. And if you are doing as much; reevaluate life.
While there is a large amount of training that goes into Olympic events (even Curling and Syncrhonized Swimming), there is still just as much luck involved with the actual event. I can sit here and come up with a broken team that has very few, if any counters, take it to a large event and get stomped because my dice refuse to roll 6s or 7s. Just like someone can their time training to be the best 1500m short track speed skater and then fail to qualify because their foot didn't actually cross the black finish line (this happened in the Sochi games). Did that skater get upset? Probably. Did she blame her competitors for her not being in the lane at the end of the race, thus disqualifying herself accidentally? She may have at first, but you should never go into an event at any level (which is why I made the Olympic reference) and not expect to give and get an appropriate level of competition. It takes just as much luck to have the right type of wax on your skies during a 50km cross country event, it takes skill to perform tricks on the ice or the slopes, it takes luck to have the conditions perfect for your tricks. It takes skill to learn how to slide the rock down the ice and sweep the perfect path, it takes a little bit of luck to make it happen.
Competition of anything at any level requires luck. If it didn't then we would not need championship games like the World Series, the Super Bowl, or the Stanley Cup, because we'd just look at the team/player/etc... that trains the most and has the most skill. If luck wasn't a thing, then medal projections in the Olympics would simply be the final count and we could be done with the 2 week event in a day.
HeroClix, and any other tabletop skirmish game requires the same principles that any sport or competitive event does:
training - learning the rules, learning combos, figuring out playstyle
dedication - see this thread for a good overview of simple dedication in HeroClix
talent - this is a mental thing as you put those rules, combos, etc... to use, and why netlists don't always mean auto-win
endurance - Idk about HeroClix's World's, but the AdeptiCon 40k Championship and other major tournaments of their ilk are known for being tough on the players because it's like 4 days of 12+ hours standing around, bending over, straining your eyes, etc... We're not the most physically fit group of 'athletes' on the planet, and that sort of strain is rough on anyone.
Blood, sweat, tears - I don't know if there's crying in HeroClix (much like no crying in baseball) and idk about anyone getting shanked at an event, so I can't really comment on these.
The crux of my "blunder" (as you put it) was that you should go into an event with the proper preparation required for that event, and that any failings to prepare for the event are on you, and not your opponent.
Um...ok. What's your point? That you're morally superior to other folks who might like to use these pieces, or something? Just curious, you trying to bait people into getting into the whole, "Casual vs. Competitive thing again? 'Cuz that's kinda what you seem to be doing. See my sig for that sorta thing...
Not at all & I hope I don't come across as that. Just listing characters I woudn't own (or play). I play competively. Just seems like alot of characters I could give two $#!+s about
seem to get all the lime light. If u like them then play them. I play what I know (very competively). This is a thread about characters I don't connect with, list yours.

This thread is about characters I wont own. For what ever reason.
Cyclops and Daredevil are my least favorite characters in comics. I still own a couple versions of Cyclops, because I like the X-Men sometimes. I don't have any interest in Daredevil, but if they made a 1602 version I'd own it.
There is no absolute for me.
