That Morphing Jar is just ridiculous. Yeah, there are some big, flashy and expensive cards, but that one right there will probably wind up being the reason I decide to not let Yugioh mix with the other Dice Masters events.
I am still keeping an open format for now, but we'll see how February's events go...
It seems a bit...knee-jerk-y to me to ban an entire set because of one potentially abusable card. Ok, its a common, but there are already plenty of Marvel cards that are really abusive as well from both sets. Are those sets going to be banned also? But if you want to restrict Marvel DM events to only Marvel sets, I can definitely see that. But banning the YGO set only because of that 1 card...I dunno man...

When did I say "ban"? At most, we'd just have separate events for Yugioh and the rest... just like HeroClix is currently done.
And when did I say I was definitely going to do it? Funny, but "I am still keeping an open format for now, but we'll see how February's events go..." kind of sounds like the exact opposite of "knee jerk".
Just for the record, do you enjoy misinterpreting my posts?
Color me confused, but what is it about the Morphing Jar that has folks so worried?
He has a 1 purchase cost. Think Common Ant-Man, but cheaper to buy and higher defense/lower attack.
On turn 1, you can buy 4 of him if you get lucky. And then you can keep spitting him out with very little effort over the game. If you've got some way of keeping your sidekicks out of the bag (in prep area or used pile), then you're pretty much guaranteed to pull at least a couple of these guys every time you reach into your bag.
My biggest beef with him, though, is where do we go from here? Games do change and evolve over time; just compare HeroClix from IC/HT to even just a few sets later in Ultimates/Legacy. So I am totally cool with the idea of "power creep". But we've now got a character with a cost 1. We've already set the bar as low as it can go without making him free. So what next? How can we "creep" from here? A cost of 1 with even better stats? With similar stats but awesome abilities? Or just make it cost 0? There is no real room for us to grow in this direction anymore without becoming *COMPLETELY* ridiculous... and this is only the third official release!

At the last event you went on for so long about this, lol.
But you're right. And with the two really good SRs in the set (Which cost like 8, but can be purchased with proper ramping) power creep is real and moving quick. There's also been a couple cards previewed from DC that will be even better when mixed with this YGO, but seem balanced if it were just mixed with marvel.
As much as I like the YGO dice (I REALLY do), if power creep continues like this it will need to be separated out.
On a side note I was reading some of the cards for D&D and those really feel like "Show stoppers" that have the potential to break the game.

These are my feelings as well. In a lot of ways they seem to be painting themselves into a lot of corners with this game.
I was worried they were doing the same thing by reusing dice with the same character and stats. But they at least seem to be getting away from that.
As for the Morphing jar,
he wouldn't be so bad if there was more than 1 (one cost guy).
It seems like the arms race will be at each point cost. Who is the best "1"? Who is the best "2", etc.
What should not happen is "1"s that are better than "2"s.
There needs to be a significant power increase when that happens.
Fives have lives.
Fours have chores.
Threes have fleas.
Twos have blues and
Ones don't get a rhyme, because they're garbage.
I think they should utilize all the aspects of a die and they don't.
Since every die has 1 Energy, 2 Energy, and 2 Energy for it's 3 sides, half the time a 1 cost die is just as good as a 10 cost. So having low cost guys, just outnumbers the big guys and remove their relative value.
If they would utilize 0, 1, 2, and 3, energy for a more dynamic range in costing, that'd be one less corner they had been painted into.
Like suppose this Morphing jar was the same but had 0, 0, and 1 Energy on his energy sides. Then everyone would think twice before loading themselves up with that trash.
And what is this nonsense about every die having the same type of energy.
Why paint ourselves into another corner? It just seems like an unnecessarily rigid rules that don't allow the game the long term flexibility it'd need to be around as long as we'd like.
Of course I wouldn't be surprised if a year from now, they unveil their new mechanics, which are exactly that. Forget all your old dice! These are multi-energy, with 3 per side!

Playing with the types of faces isn't a half-bad idea for low cost characters. If you had a 1 purchase cost character, but it only had *TWO* character faces, and the rest energy, then it could still be useful (energy is almost always a good thing) but you've now got less of a chance of getting Awesome Monster Man.
Or flip it around and give it only 2 energy faces and 4 character face. Less of a chance of getting extra energy and more chance of getting Mediocre Monster Man.
All depending on character stats/abilities, of course.

Hmm..seems like I may have offended you. Not my intentions, apologies if I did though. You're right that you didn't outright say ban. But you did mention that you were thinking about separating the YGO set from other dice masters events. I took that to mean that you were not allowing them in any DM events. But, now, its clear that you simply meant removing them from Marvel events. I suppose I should have added "if you go through with it..." to the end of my post. I didn't because my thinking was that we were discussing something that might take place, so it seemed redundant to me. I need to be more clear in my future posts.
HC has events that disallow figures? Are you talking about modern age vs. golden age? I haven't touched HC in over a year, so I honestly have no idea.
In any case, my point, which you touched on in a later post, is that removing a set from play because of power creep is knee jerk-y. As you said, power creep is going to happen. There are already abusable cards in the first two sets. If we get a 1 cost character in the DC set it will be this same situation all over again. And yes, we can then make DC have its own events. But what happens if we get a 1 cost character in Age of Ultron? Much as there is no more real room to go cheaper, eliminating a set from certain events doesn't really leave any real room to negotiate the format of said events later.
This is the first set where we have a one cost character. When power creep first happens it will seem like a bigger deal than it might actually be. After a few more sets, if we don't see the same thing, then we can say that this set might be ruining the meta. But for now, I'd say keep doing what you're doing and let it play itself out, not just for the month, but for at least another set or two. Unless of course your players generally don't like the set being used...then go with what they want.
Hmm..seems like I may have offended you. Not my intentions, apologies if I did though.
Offended? No. Trust me, if I have any real issue with something you post, I won't be coy about it. Given the back and forth in the serial number thread, it seemed to me that you are in habit of not reading what I post very closely... hence the earlier remark and smiley.

Yugioh characters are indeed Golden Age only. Additionally, trap/spell dials are usable only in Yugioh scenarios. All subject to house rules, of course.

See my earlier mini-rant. Basically by going to a 1 cost character, the game has already hit a ceiling on the low-cost end. The only way future sets can now hope to "creep" in this direction is to give us even better stats or wilder abilities to go along with this one cost. There is no way to improve, for lack of a better term, without rendering previous sets completely and totally obsolete.
From here on out, everything is going to be compared to a Morphing Jar. Unless a card has a really good ability, why bother using it when you can get Morphing Jar for 1 energy? It will literally be the default character of choice, barring build restrictions.
And will we get other 1 cost characters in the future? At this point, yes, it is pretty much a given now that they've broken this bubble. But that doesn't make it any better. Instead of Morphing Jar being the go-to character, you'll instead pick Character X depending on what energy type you need the most. Or, heck, just use all of them, that way you've got cheap 1-cost energy/characters for any situation.
I know for a fact that some of my players are already talking about Morphing Jar with characters like Johnny Storm. It works even better than Sidekicks since the Morphing Jars can then deal some pretty nasty damage on their own after being fielded (without needing to be buffed by other effects). Will it break the game? I don't know. But Johnny teams were already a headache to deal with... and 1 cost characters will only make it worse.

Also the inverse could be said for high cost characters.
Character who's die are high cost might have 2/2/3 or 2/2/3 or 0/1/2 or 2/2/2 you could even be weird like on mystique's die and for no reason be like 2/0/1. There's just no sense in boxing yourself in to half of the dice being the same no matter what.
Or dice having 4 Character faces, like you mentioned. They did that in Quarriors. Dice had 2 to 4 character faces, and while 90% of them had 3, it left some room to play.
Dice in quarriors also had varying amounts of Energy, depending on the dice. Compare these creature from quarriors. Or hell just look at all of these.
They tend to be the same, but they are not all the same. It's a point of articulation.
You could even have a low cost die with high energy, but it's creature faces are terrible or decay each turn. That piece might be an energy booster more than an attacker.
it just seems like several areas of the game have room for lots of ingenuity, but are pointlessly static. I hope they will expand on them in future either way.
Yeah, Quarriors has some very creative dice. Most were standard 3-quiddity/3-creature, but there were just enough oddballs in there to keep you on your toes.

isnt low cost die with valuable energy but terrible character literally Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze?
