yugioh has changed my life as well ive met many friends at the local tourny and am now still close friends with many of them it has also broadened my horizons with other games unfortuantely i have no fancey booster pack story for u my first booster was 1st.edition legend of blue eyes white dragon where i pulled charubin the fire knight, but the game seemed really cool and me and my new friends have continued playing it some more then others but most of us have played fro years now and we will continue to for many years to come even after the game loses popularity i wont forget how it changed my life.
It would seem that many new people came with metal raiders and magic ruler......Well i started back when Lob had just been released and in my first booster pack i pulled a 1st ed Tri Horned Dragon which well pretty much made me fall in love with the game right there...I have been competing in/judging tournaments for a few years now and i still love the game just as much if not more than when i started.....there is just something about this game that has really found its own place in my life.
if you think yugioh has had no effect on you, let me ask u this. if someones asks u whats 8000-1900 how long will it take u to answer? lol
for those of you keeping track, the answer would be 6100
anyways, as I said in my last post, it's time to continue my story cause I think my history had a profound impact on my dueling today.
so, about this time, the new ban list comes around banning my precious monster reborn (I was so sad) and dark hole (for some reason I didn't care though). it was also around this time that I bought a yugi evolution starter deck for my oldest nephew, a starter that had a card that would forever change the way I dueled, mystic plasma zone. I immediately saw this card and started rumaging through my deck and discovered that most of the monsters I was running were indeed dark type monsters so I traded my nephew 5 rares for 5 cards from his starter deck (only one I think I still use today). shortly after that, my other nephew that dueled wanted a kaiba evolution starter deck. I, being the good uncle I am, bought it for him. so I was rumaging through it just looking at the cards when this one jumped out at me, premature burial. I was happy cause I had finally found my new monster reborn. I told the boy that since I bought it, I could take cards if I wanted to so I took the premature burial. suddenly, I was interrested in new staples, a far cry from the past staples I had used. with the ban list, I was introduced to a new concept, chaos (something I rarely take advantage of, as you can tell by the fact that my only chaos monsters are 2 chaos sorcerers). I originally wanted a bls-eotb and upon realizing that chaos sorcerer was essentially the same and a common to boot, I quickly went about getting 2 of them. the same thing essentially happened when I wanted GAF as well (I discovered giant orc, which only differences were that it was 100 attack points weaker and it was a common so needless to say, I quickly got 3). around this time, I bought a few more cards off of eBay and ended up trading 2 of them away when I decided to focus solely on light and dark monsters. this concept changed not that long ago when I got ahold of Chiron the Mage, a card that made me decide to add a couple more earth types in, which allowed me to put my precious dark driceratops back in. Chiron also made me rethink my deck strategies. I was running the same amount of spells and traps (so I was running 14 traps). chirons special ability gave me a newfound purpose, get rid of over a third of the traps I was running (I'm down to 8 now which is almost half). I found alot of useful spell cards which brings us to the present, a present where my deck is finally almost complete after about 2 months of reworking (I kept finding other cool cards that I just had to get and add). well, that's most all of my history with the game, I left a few parts out cause honestly, I didn't really care to add them. plus, look how long this freaking thing is!
I'd like to add that the barrel dragon is still in mint condition today. When I got my first magic ruler pack I was rewarded with serpent night dragon.
I remember how I got into the game. My little cousin brought over his tapes and we watched them together. A few weeks later it was Easter and so I bought him the very first 2 starter sets. After playing a few games with him to learn how to play, I found it was fun and bought myself 2 starter decks and a few Metal Raiders packs. I got 2 rares somehow in my first pack: Dark Elf and Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon (both of which I still have). The very first card I got from that pack was Swamp Battleguard, which to this day is one of my favorites. I later got Suijin and both Jammer and Seven Tools. I bought packs sparingly though, and soon Christmas came and the next 2 sets came out, but I could never afford to buy them. Then I started running the league at work. After seeing and hearing all about the next sets, I immediatly bought several packs of LON, PSV, and MRD. I was rewarded with Gemini Elf, Call, and Gate Guardian. For the longest time, I would wow everyone with Gemini, including people I knew went to tournaments. For a while, I just simply bought packs when I could. One day during season comes to mind. I don't remember the date, but it was a really rough day. I bought 3 packs, 2 DCR and 1 MFC. Lo and behold here came Judgment of Anubis, Blast held by a tribute, and XYZ-Dragon Cannon.
Once season ended, I went back to the daily routine, until a friend invited me to the tournament I go to now. It was there I really go into the game and collecting and made more friends. IOC came with my Chaos Emperor Dragon from the very first pack I bought.
Now I'm a judge and I find myself taking vacation to go to the TLM preview hehe. I enjoy the game, and I get paid to do it every Saturday for 2 hours.
Boy do I have a lot of stories to share about this one. Yu-Gi-Oh was introduced to me by my little brother who was so hyped up over it due to school I guess. We were at Toys R us and he bought a YuGi Starter Deck (this was back during Magic Ruler). He then asked me to get the Kaiba Starter Deck, but I was a bit skeptical because I used to play Pokemon and after awhile that card game died out and I didn't want to invest in card games anymore (EXPENSIVE!). He practically begged me to get one, so I was like okay...it's only $12. We started to play it and well,...didn't really like it off the bat. In order to improve our deck and have a more interesting games we decided to buy some booster packs. My first packs I managed to pull Time Wizard and Harpie Lady Sisters! I thought this was so freakin awesome as they were characters from the show ( I was hooked on the show,...just not the card game). After constant play and booster packs later I was more into the game and was really becoming a Kaiba fan (whereas my bro was a Yugi fan). I didn't really have huge affinity for this game until I bought the first Kaiba Tin with the BEWD in it! I just fell in love with the game after that and continued to play it. To this day my bro still runs a deck close to what Yugi has (Yugi's cards and Dark Magician Deck) while I run a lot of the cards used by Kaiba and a lot dragons (currently running a Horus Deck).
Another good story would be when I later in a point where I was taking the game seriously and wanted to win a tournament trophy. During this time, the card store I played at was having some bully trouble. There was this duelist everyone was afraid of because he was so good and he constantly bragged and brought the other players down (telling them they sucked, he was the best...blah blah blah). Funny thing is, I didn't find this out until after I beat him out of first place, which was the first day I played in the store tourney! LOL! Nobody knew who I was, and everyone was like "Yo, did you hear that new kid just beat so-and-so?!". My first day there everyone knew my name and I gained instant respect. I was then told how everyone hated this guy and was tired of him bringing everybody down, so I decided to take matters into my hands and dethrown this bully and bring back hope for the other store duelists. Being the nice guy that I am, I was immediately the store favorite to win the tourney and bring down this guy. Everyone was on my side and wanted me to win it. Mind you it wasn't going to be an easy feat because this bully WAS A GOOD DUELIST! After the tourney was over I was told by many disappointed players that I didn't win the tourney and that the bully did. After this time I stopped playing for like over a year mainly due to college keeping me too busy. But after so long I decided to start playing again. I dusted off my deck and headed to the card shop with my new improved Horus Deck (I was running a Yata-Lock the first time)! I walked in the store and saw the millenium trophy being displayed and was thinking how bad I wish I had won. Then I looked at the name and it was MY NAME! It blew me away! I HAD won the tourney but nobody had ever contacted me to let me know! It brought me instant joy mainly due to fact that I was dueling for the pride and hope of the other store duelists and I had come through for all of them. Not only that, but it was on display for all to see and served as reminder to the bully (who no longer has bragging rights). I talked to the store owner who had recognized who I was and told me he was waiting for me to claim it. I was then able to take my trophy home and have the constant reminder of what I had done for all my fellow duelists in the store.
I don't really have a great Yugioh story because at the time when it came out I was playing MTG and I thought that it was a game for little kids. A few of my friends finally got me into playing with them and they all gave me like all of their commons. I began my holo collection by trading stacks of commons for holos.
My friend has an interesting story though. It was just a little while after LOB was released. My friend and his friend were at Wal*Mart and they decided to buy 1 pack each. My friend pulled nothing great but then his friend pulled 9 GAIA THE DRAGON CHAMPIONS. Count them 9. The pack was a total glitch and he took all of those and traded them for just about anything he could want. Now his job is playing yugioh. He lives in Florida and in constructed play he is 20th in the world, 15th in North America, 11th in the US, and 3rd in Florida.
I don't have that great a story as well, but I'll share what I have. I needed some extra time to kill so I decided I would collect trading cards. Yugioh had somewhat piked my interest so on my next trip to the mall I bought a Magic ruler pack. I wasn't anything that interesting. My first Rare card was a Karate Man. if someone had told me how far I had gone into this game in the future, I would have laughed in his face. But, here I am, mostly a collector and an occasional duelist some years later. This game has greatly enriched my life. I watch the show often, when I can.
I can hardly imagine how my life would be without Yugioh.
My brother had an experience with metal raders where he pulled a gate guardian from his first pack. My step sister just bought a pack one day and pulled a barrle dragon, ofcourse she wasn't in to the game that much so she gave to her brother (major bummer) Yugioh has changed my life by teaching me that you need to think fast but good, and my math skills improved from playing yu-gi-oh, anouther thing it builds up your self confidence and that is a great feeling. I have currentally played yugioh on and off but now I am sticking with it till the day it dies.
well first pack i ever opened was imperial order. and i still have it to this day. well my yugioh story is, basically my little brother got me into it, baught a kiaba deck and started to play since then, dont have incredible rares, my rarest its horus lv 8.
I got introduced to Yugioh by my wife's 7yr old son. When we started dating a couple years ago and we were all getting to know each other (her, her son, my son and myself) I found out he collected the cards and watched the cartoon. After a few months of looking at his cards and watching the show my curiousity got the best of me so I bought a starter deck (Kaiba since he became my favorite character on the show), and challenged him to a duel. It was then that I found out that he really didn't know how to duel, but liked the show and looking at the cards :tired: .
That's been a few years ago. Now he's my son. When we duel he has to keep score cuz he needs all the help he can get with math  . Rewards for good grades are booster packs of his choice  . And I totally blame him for my obsession with this game  .

heh, I bet he gets alot of good grades doesn't he?
Wow, you've all got some pretty awesome stories. Better than mine for sure, lol, but I'll tell you all everything anyways.
This game has changed my life just as much as moving away from my hometown did last year... for reference later, my hometown is Russellville, and I moved just about an hour away to Hopkinsville (KY), though I rarely get to go to Russellville now. Back to the beginning... I started watching YuGiOh! in the summer before my 7th grade year, I was 11 years old and going on 12. And almost immediately, I got so caught up in the show, that I went out to Wal*Mart to see if there were REAL Yugioh cards, lol. And turns out, to the best of my luck, that there were! And by this time, Pharoah's Servant had JUST been released. So I begged my mom to get them for me... that day, I just got one pack, a Metal Raiders pack... I opened it up on my way home, and as slowly as I could, I shuffled through the cards to see what I got. Stone Ogre Grotto #2, Ring of Magnetism, Mushroom Man #2, Blackland Fire Dragon... Witch of the Black Forest... and some other crap, but that's all I remember. I was a little dissapointed, because I had NO idea how this game worked (besides the show) and there was nothing in there that I recognized. However, I continued to buy packs, and eventually built a deck of my own cards from the packs (while, on the other hand, everyone else had the Starter decks, lol). My strongest card has Hyozanryu, by the by. Anyways though, for all we knew, there were no Tributes and such, and only 2000 Life Points. My friend used his oh so deadly Dark Hole and Summoned Skull combo to pretty much own everyone around him... but I was VERY lucky. Out of those packs, I pulled a Final Destiny (I think that's what it's called, but I've overlooked it over the past year or so), which I was usually quite lucky to have in hand with Hyozanryu. For my first 10 games, I didn't bare a loss, carrying myself along with Hyozanryu and Final Destiny. Until game 11... where I finally lost. But it was cool, I knew I was going to lose at some point.
Anyways, I'm going to skip a lot and move on to say, months later. I was 12 now, and growing my hair out, started on a kind of punk-like routine with my life. More heavy metal and rock music, more black clothes, and long hair, lol. But of course, I also played Yugioh, and I kind of denied playing it so I wouldn't be a loser. Give me a break, I was just starting out with the whole, individuality thing, lol. But I did play Yugioh with my friends at their houses when I could, and proceeded to start my own little tournies amongst my friends, none of the 3 which I ever won, lol. Anyways though... I had started a tourney, using the rules from the show as always. I lost though, in the finals against my younger cousin, him and his mighty Blue-Eyes White Dragon, that tried to devour my spirit. But nay, for after that, I started something new... I began to read the rule book, and wanted to try the actual rules of the game for a try. Not long after that, I got into my first actual tourney, where I dominated into the semi-finals, then lost to the older brother of one of my ealier opponent's. But again, it was okay, just my second "major" loss, lol... I was actually the kind of kid who loved winning, but hated to lose, so much that I often got mad over a loss and discouraged. Not any more though, that was really the first thing that playing YuGiOh showed me... don't get discouraged, never give up, and if you really want to win, try harder.
That's all for right now... just a little part of my story, I know it wasn't really interesting, but it does get a lot better. This game has changed me in so many ways, or rather, brought me to change myself... and introduced me to some of my best friends ever. But I'll get back to it later. Hope you'll read next time.
