I kind of like the idea, but we just add another click of damage instead of instant death. That fluke would really piss me off if say a TAC nuked away my DI Schmitt Tank.
Anyway, as for a real "ultimate" critical hit, I used a SC Shock Troops, targeted two formations of five infantry, and critically hit, for 30 damage. I celebrated them as heroes and have painted them silver and red to initiate them in to Kara's Scorchers. A similar event happened when I had a SC CBA on it's last click of life, and all I needed to do was capture a tank with 21 defense to win the game. Yup, three 6s. The sad part for my opponent was that both events happened in the same game. :grin:
How are you rolling for critical hits without armor penetration? Handguns do not use AP rounds, you would need to hit the 'Mech 10 times to start rolling for criticals.
If you roll a 2 on the hit-location chart, it's an automatic chance for critical hit, armor penetration or not. (Usually to the appropriate torso, but very common house rule that's been officially enshrined is to re-roll the actual location, thus the "floating crit".)
This is why RAC-2's and large SRM batteries are known as "crit-seekers".
