Decent medium tank for its points. Decoy on the ROTS version is fine but Camo SE could of have been used too, giving the tank a tough 23DV in hindering (well, ROTS and HL are happy campers). The DF tank's shorter range of 10" can be extended with the DF FP card that adds 2".
Don't forget that the New DF Faction Pride gives +2" range...I like...but don't love. It just seems like they don't make 60pt tanks like they used to...
Wow, what a surprise, the DF variant is infinitely better in every concievable way than the other three variants (especially the RotS one). Good job WK, you've created another largely worthless filler vehicle by mechanicing your point calculator. In fact it looks as though they lowered the cost of Homing Beacon SE specifically to make the DF variant absurd.
Well, the DF one looks like a solid tank-dropper...more accuracy with the homing beacon on top of the IT...isn't that a +2 against a single target? So something like a 12IT for 4 clicks, unless I'm botching an SE.
Double-checked. Yeah, Homing Beacon, when you target a single opposing mech or vehicle, gives you +2 to hit. So, we're talking an effective 11IT, 12 with the DF Faction pride. Dear lord. It is the Schmitt mark 2. -2 range, -1 damage, no AP, but every bit as accurate, and a good 40 points cheaper. 4 clicks causes stat damage.
Aside from that, they look like the younger siblings of Glory Fire Support Tanks. The Evade on 'em keeps the ranged defense up, but the low attacks (aside from the DF version) limit them to support-killing units or formation tanks. Point defense on the Davion one feels like bad synergy (only give a 20 defense to its buddies while it's got the 22)
Kurita feels like a little Marskman with the evade and heavy armor, but no mention of attack or damage SE.
ROTS: 20 decoy. Woo hoo. No mention of evade, so this thing has to rely on not being the biggest threat on the board and getting ignored. Support shots won't reliably hit it, but an infantry formation may very well be its bane. Melee through the decoy, cut it down, kill it.
Still, the neo-Schmitt that the DF have looks like the scariest to me. 11IT (after homing beacon's SU click) and 4 clicks of pain from a 60-point tank is well worth it. We have the new tankdrop unit. And in FP, it's a 12IT. So yeah. We have the new Schmitt admist these mid-range monsters.
Doh. Almost forgot. DF FP card. +1 to attack. So make that a 10 attack with IT 19" tank-drop.
DF Faction Pride doesn't work on units in a transport. You have to assign your +1 attack before you make any actions and the tank won't be on the field until you drop it you can't boost the attack to 10. Additionally, the tank takes a click of damage when it boosts its attack and should be fairly easy to neutralize once dropped since it only has a 20 defense. Slap reactive on your units and you're not only artillery resistant, you've just cut this tank's damage potential in half.
I for one am glad to see DF get a usable unit. This is the first truly useable unit DF has gotten since AoD came out (the only other unit worth considering is the DF Hadur - which is only decent because it's a DF Arty with a 28" range). With the DF Paradigm working so poorly in AoD, they needed a decent tank to drop to compete as a faction pure army again. I'm not looking forward to seeing it in rainbow armies, but in a DF Faction Pure army, this is a fine unit. It's also good to see DF get some of the competetive armor that used to be part of the faction paradigm.
The problem with tanks like this is not the tank itself, just tank drop. WK needs to get rid of tank drop and either 1) Give tanks move and shoot or 2) Go back to making tanks that are actually worth fielding on their own (like this DF Tokugawa). Right now the only competetive tanks are ones dropped from transports.
every tank there is a joke except for the DF one. 11IT at 12" (DF FP) or 12IT(old DF FP). pretty awesome.
Once again, I believe the same rules apply to the DF ranged bonus FP card. You have to assign the range before you make any actions, so when dropped, the tank won't have a 12".

Personally, I don't think AA vehicles are worth their points. There are only two worth fielding these days - the SH Aesir and the Liao MHI - and the only reason they are worth fielding is because they are decent tanks all by themselves. Mech assault orders have made AA nearly worthless...especially since VTOL's can just stay NOE to keep from getting gunned down at double range.
Just curious why anyone would use the RotS version over the HL or RotS Regulator? Nice looking sculpt and paint job, but.... Of course, just my opinions as always...
So you have to spend and additional 30 points (FP + Merc Contract) to give this unit stats that compare to a Schmitt. It has no AP, so units with armor shrug off up to half its damage. Even an unarmored Heavy or Assault 'Mech can generally take 4 damge without losing a step now. On top of that, it automatically takes a click of damage, probably dropping at least one of its stats.
Then consider that with a 20 defense, no armor, and 7 clicks, and no evade, this thing is going to be easy to base and kill.
