I think a "Vs. 101" might be kinda cool - basically a series of articles that run over the basics and key strategies for the Vs. System so that people who have never played a CCG, or a CCG of this style, won't be totally clueless with the fundamentals of the game.
Mageto Rising, check out my article "Intrepid VS System Compendium: Marvel". I think that's somewhat of what you're looking for right? I would have added a lot more stuff, but I wanted to get it in before the contest ended. I've been working on touch-up and additions to it here at my home, and I've been hoping that those who read it would provide input as well.
I intend to keep re-editing, adding to it, and reposting for as long as VS System Stays Alive. If REALMS is interested, I'd be more than happy to work on it harder, so that they can have their own personal "VS 101". I wrote the whole compendium with idea that it might give Realms a little extra for readers. It's far from perfect right now, but what can you say for it coming out before the actual release of the game.
If not, that's fine I still intend to keep it going and write other things as well. Things, like Card Commentary on all 220 cards in Origins, multi-player and team strategy, ect. Hopefully this can perk the interests of VS Realmers everywhere. Personally, I'd love to see VS Realms become a place where people can read strategy and transform themselves from novice to tournament player.
Just to be an echo, you're already running a great site! If you want suggestions, I'll offer you only two small ones (most of the nice and/or feasible ones have been said). One obvious and one a bit outlandish.
1. More avatars :)!
2. It'd be cool if you had a Flash version of the game on the site. Apprentice is nice, but firewalls and such can make it a hassle. I believe that a few people mentioned working on this on Kergy's mailing list (forget who), maybe you could go into cahoots with them?
That's right Intrepid! I totally forgot about that... I saw it a while back, did a O_O and then wanted to go back and start reading it... it's long. LoL. Yeah, as I recall that's some of the stuff. Also, MetaGame's Power Cosmic article is a great example of what I'm talking about... maybe Typhon or Kergy could read through your book of an article and give it some prominent coverage because everyone should read that.
Btw, from what I've read, it's excellent.
Oh, and another echo - the site is awesome as-is, I just love the forums themselves, everything else is icing.
I want to throw my two cents into the ring. A section wish well thought out articles treating tactics, opening plays, mid-game plays, closing in for the win, etc, as well as for beginning players would be a serious boon for this site. It will perform two services. It draws players to this site on a regular basis, which is an important thing for the site to maintain success. Secondly, it provides a needed service to the players in a game that has more depth and methodologies in styples of play than most TCG's that I have seen since Magic the Gathering. This site realy sails above the rest in layout, news, forums, and proffessional and friendy staff. Al the Realm sites have deminstrated this. My only observation is that we all would love to see a section that goes beyond the forums for how to play this game better. Articles and other ideas in this "new" section would be greatly apreciated. What "Metgames" and Intrepid have shown forth are great examples of this.
Oh, but just to add, what I'm specifically wanting is a team that would be assembled, not general submissions. So Typhon and Kergy would assemble a group of players (obviously they'd have to be good and write well, so it might take some time to find out who has both qualities) that everyone can trust for well-constructed articles etc. I like the articles section now, but anyone can submit articles right now...
I agree, Magneto Rising. It does need oversite, not to slam on other's works, but to insure that what is offered as worthy treatments of the game play is truly benefical to all the players. Players have come to trust the way content is managed. I too have enjoyed the articles and believe this section should be continued, However, a section devoted to serious play with articles by selected and talented player/writers is much needed.
BUT a Flah version of the game would definitely be nice. What has been discussed on my group, and what Eowyn is currently working on, is a Flash version of the game that cannot be played by 2 people via an online server connection. In other words: played on a browser;)
this site is fantabulous! splendefiric! and neat-o-keen!
but just to say ditto, or, yadda, yadda, yadda, on what others have said, i think a section on custom made cards would be very cool. and a flash program played via a browser sounds awesome!
plus more articles and card reviews by people better at writing than i would be good. and we need some more avatars, just to spice up the boards.
and now would be the time for me to say any original ideas i have, but sadly, i don't have any at the moment. this site is just that good.
i love the cardlist, deckbuilder, inventory, articles and venue section!
the venue section is great if you are trying to find people/places local to play! if the site would attempt to stay on top of what brick and mortar places are holding tournaments and update the list that would be grand!
thanks for the virtual set and draft pack tools!!!! i can't express how amazing it is that you guys put these together. people can conciveably play online with a little ingeinuity, thanks to both these tools! you guys rock!
First of all, free merchandise is always a great way to boost morale and get new players.
Second, I think it would be useful to know when and where UDE demos might be going on.
Third, once tournaments really begin, it would be very handy to know who placed high in the big tournaments (at conventions) and what type of deck they were playing. A reconnaissance if you will.
All of this stuff would be great, but VSRealsm has been doing a great job so far.
The ICS is always handy, and the Draft Pack is nifty.
VSRealms has really created a hype for VS.
Hope these ideas help, and thanks for what you've been doing so far.
