Play the Hood when you want to win... play Skrulls or Sentinels when you want to mess around (just don't tell stubarnes).
I am gonna play a 1-rare Gotham Knights Deck just because I like Batman. I'll probably never win but I'll enjoy double stunning with 5-drop Bats... and then having 10 or more cards in my hand when my only copy of 7-drop Bats hits the table.
i have a simmilar prob. thats why i don't play in rl. no card shops in my area, can't really by cards. so i play online. i play both to have fun and win. as in i want to win, but not at the expense of fun. i've never tried brotherhood because i'm not a fan of beatdown (ygo ruined that whole idea for me) so i try to come up with an original (or mostly original) strategy, by that i mean i come up with it w/out reading about first. like Base security deck (i ditched because it got boring) which was gcpd + sentile. now i'm using an ai hand d. and always fixing it so its never the same. i think that many people would play longer if they would always change their deck. add new strategies. i doubt you'll ever get a perfect deck, but you can get close. ne ways. thats my thought. oh and if ne one knows of ne tourneys or card shops around sw minnesota plz tell me. i'm missing out on the rl experience, which is mainly my playing manirosims which are often as important as your strategy. (i'm willing to go as far as sioux falls, sd if you guys know ne there).
I think that I won't feel so guilty. Honestly, despite the similarities you might see between my deck and the top 8 PCQ decks, I know I picked my deck. There are some features of my deck that I took from decklists, but I prefer to think of it as "learning" from them.
To me, "net-decking" is a treacherous term which could easily be used as an ad hominem argument to delegitimize a loss.
On one hand, a person could be spending loads of cash to duplicate the deck of some favorite player without putting any thought into it what-so-ever.
I prefer to think I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. I like to have a "conversation" with the deck list. One decklist tells me "Don't use equipment in your Brotherhood deck." I then ask, "Why not?" If I can find a good answer, I assimilate the strategy in question into my deck along with whatever I've come up with myself.
After reading all of your responses, it seems that, like so many other things in life, it's best to reserve judgement. I think I'll make sure I know the reasons I pick the cards I do, and I'll assume everyone else does the same. Unless they beat me, at which point I will know for sure that they are nothing but a net-decking sponge, and probably a cheater. And a Fascist.
I still see anyone calling anyone else's deck a 'netdeck' is an idiot by default. Unless you saw them copy the deck off the net, the fact is that you don't know how they got it. You can only assume, and we all know what they say aboutthe word 'assume.'
I get pissed off when I see a deck on the internet, because they usually have a card that makes me go, "WTF!!! Why would anybody use that crappy card!!!"
*Throws chair at little brother*
*Builds his own deck out of pure rage*
The Internet provides knowledge to us all. None of the players here are completely original with there deck because we are all inspired by something.
I read decks online just to see what everyone is playing. This gives me the edge in thinking up new combinations to beat such popular decks.
I'll be honest, I post my deck up now and then but thats because I like feedback and some advice which may help my game.
Sadly in all TCG's some themes dominate and others lay in the gutter.
Look at Yu-Gi-Oh! for example, Chaos, Chaos, Chaos, Chaos. We might see some OTK but it mainly chaos or some form of hybrid like beatdown or control.
I'm a chaos control player myself, but thats because I've been playing control since LoN.
With VS. Bhood for me is more of a starter. Its an easy theme to play and it gets me used to the game.
After I've played for a while I'll probably move to a more control type theme.
I haven't see a single deck that I can make with my cards. I don't have 4 Sabertooths, Genoshas, Lady Shiva, Savage Beatdowns, etc... So I have to come up with some ways to fix it or fill in the holes. Until I have 4 of every card, the net-decks are just a suggestion. Like the starter decks. I just need the basic layout.
I will bet that 75 percent of the members on Realms are competitive TCG players.
Why?
It shows a form of dedication to the game if you are a member of a forum for a particular TCG. We all share ideas, decks, strategies.
If you are competitive, you play the most competitive decks. i.e. Brotherhood.
Some competitive players, such as stubarnes and myself are competitive, but don't play the most competitive decks.
I play Wild Vomit. My deck isn't an exact copy of anybody's deck, but it is very hard to have a VERY ORIGINAL Vomit deck.
Stu just does his own thing.
What I'm trying to say is. If you play to win, don't worry about what kind of deck you play. Use what works for you. Use what YOU WANT. Don't let other people influence your decision. You are in control of you.
This is my first TCG, but it seems to me that originality is quite hard to attain, especially since we're just on the release of the second set. The only person I thought netdecked was a person that started the game a few days prior and had a deck nearly identical to the BBH deck that won at Origins I believe it was. Someone asked him if he got that deck from the Origins winning deck, and he said no because his deck "had Burn Rubbers, not Finishing Moves." Now, I wouldn't have been bothered if he'd just admitted it, he was just starting afterall. But the fact he tried to pass a deck like that as his own was pretty sad.
I haven't "netdecked", but not because I'm "better" . . . I've only been playing TCGs (just VS. though) since Marvel was released. It's just the fact that most of the combos are there if you look at building a deck for a team. Not seeing the possibilities of Lost City when making a BH deck would be difficult to do. I noticed it when trying to construct a X/BH because I was thinking of the multiple copies of Cyclops. (my favorite character)
I don't look as netdecking as looking for ideas on the internet so much as I see it as using ideas from the internet without understanding why they are so good. Just mirroring a deck and putting it on the table doesn't seem fun to me. And once you understand why the deck is so efficient, add your own flavor as many others have said. The thing with the Lost City deck is that it doesn't take a whole lot of understanding. Running multiple drops of the same person combined w/ +3/+3 for a power-up isn't hard to comprehend. But the League of Assassins will show them what's what in just a few more weeks . . .

Who needs 'em?
I've got a Batman deck that I like, and it has a grand total of 4 rares: Batman (from the starter), Superman, Batcave (which I'll probably take out) and Nightwing.
Of course, I'm not saying a few more rares wouldn't make it better..
