Some very interesting stuff. Ofcourse, I'm excited about the starter decks. I'm also very interested in the "Alpha Flight in 2009" crack. If that's true, it means that UDE are actually on top of things and have a long term plan, which is good news. :)
Sucky article. Booo En-Kur, Danny Mandel and Andrew Yip!
Only kidding. I just thought I'd try to fool you by going against the grain.
This was pretty interesting, but not too surprising. I guess I had enough faith in the UDE guys to think that we would eventually see all the interesting teams developed, but obviously they want to hold back and not blow them all out there all at once.
The question I would like to ask though is whether they think Marvel Knights is more or less balanced in limited because of the additional common cards. Sealed in my opinion feels more random than with previous sets.
Originally posted by Bizarro #98 You know, normally this is where I would go on a little rant about about how Upper Deck is being hopelessly idealistic by thinking they'll be able to make every team in the Marvel Universe by making teams out of order, and that making recent teams is a slap in the face to long-time comic readers.
But the Green Lantern set is rumored to have three villains teams, one of which being the Manhunters for God's sake. That leaves me with nothing to complain about.
On a side note, is this why Danny stopped answering my mail? I was worried he might be getting actual work accomplished.
Yeah Biz I got to agree with you no complaints here. Oh, and if what you say about the GLC is true then that's pretty cool. I was hoping for UDE to create an all villain set (in this case 3/4).
Also I would like to be the 1st to say I really enjoy getting a new Keyword Mechanic every set. That really allows for new and interesting things for us players, and also gives us the chance to safely use abilities and powers that would normally be considered broken in one-shot pops. Another thing I would like to see more Cosmic and Evasion. I don't think that they are as narrow of abilities as Danny mentioned. There is no reason that they couldn't lend themselves to every set.
One more thing. My only wish is that you would had introduced things like Evasion, Concealed earlier. That really would have been cool for the DC Origins set.
My appologies to all Alpha Flight fans, I thought I had it bad being an Avenger fan. Knowing I have to wait until July/August is bad enough, but 2009???? I'd go Insane!

Sorry if this has been asked before but it's the first I've heard of it.
the new batman and new Fantastic four starters are being released to coincide with the upcoming Fatastic four movie (june) and Batman Begins (March).
another intersting little tidbit that I'm sure has been discussed elsewhere already is that there is apparently an Entertainment based set soming sometime in may that will have "... VS. Systems cards featuring photo images from the Batman Begins movie..." That's all it says about that.
as for the article, excellent stuff, but I agree that I sould like to see more evasion. and that was such a tease with the what 5 cards and all.

the batman movie trading cards will have one vs card in each pack with a movie picture.

Joke or not that makes me sad.
why would R&D do any play testing? they have testers that do that for them, there was a good article on metagame that showed the whole process of making a card, from design, to testing to tweaking and all the stuff in between like templating, flavor text, and art. it was a good read.
I get a GOOD Batman movie...NEW Batman starter deck with NEW stuff in it (I'll take four of them and cross my fingers for new Batman)...yes...yes...good indeed.
I think they indicated that they wanted consistency without the complication of tutors, so don't get too excited. Not to mention that both teams have a dedicated tutor already... ;)
Great article, and quite interesting to read (though most of the info was pretty logical I suppose).
I guess as long as many cards feature explanations on them and starters are very easy to follow, new players won't have trouble getting into the game. Right now it's pretty easy, I just wonder what happens in a couple years... could be overwhelming. Players already in the game don't really have trouble since they just slowly adjust to each new mechanic - but Danny/Yip are right - it's primarily Concealed that's the mind-boggling one - the others are pretty simple.
I do hope they don't get into the habit of creating mechanics primarily just for 1 team though... that seems a bit silly.
Anyway, interviews rule and really let the players see, I think, how in control and smart UDE is.
Good times, and nice job En-Kur. An article with genuine content. ^_~
