Just got off the phone with Tice. Hager won, beating him in the finals.
Thanks for the kind words Rian. 13th wasnn't too bad. All of my losses came to guys in the top I think. It was a great tournament. Light show is just ####ing amazing. I look forward to July 1st and beyond.
I'm sure UDE is saying a collective thanks to the Dr. Lights players in Charlotte for proving them very very right in their decision to neuter this monstrosity before any other tournaments got dominated by it. 4 of the top 8, 3 of the top 4, 2 of the top 2. I think that says a lot about the deck.
Yeah I was going to say that too. I wonder what all the people saying the deck isn't broken think now. It's been legal in 3 10Ks and has won 3 10Ks. Curve Sentinels can't lay claim to that.
Congrats to goes out to Hager, don't let the swan song of overload and light combo diminish the fact that an excellent vs. player captured his first, and long overdue and inevitible, VS. championship. I look forward to seeing him and his crew at indy, and hopefully have the card to discard to squeek out a win against, unlike New York ;) Congrats Jason!!!!
My congratulations go out to both Tice and Hager. They made the right deck choice, played well, and got the wins they deserved.
I for one am happy to have been proven right about my opinion on Light Show. I can't say I was terribly surprised, since I was also proven right about Ravager Affinity on MTG, but it's nice to have actual events supporting my claims.
Onto something only slightly related, is anyone other than me noticing that every time a new broken deck comes out, there's always a group of people that's like:
"Don't jump to knee-jerk conclusions. Everything is fine. The metagame will adapt."
It seems to me that the knee-jerk conclusions are coming from the other side. After all, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that both the above decks are miles ahead of their peers in terms of power and stability. Are they just too afraid to admit that something in VS might need fixing?
There will always be people who want to defend the game. But alot of the time people are actually seperatly assessing each case and saying what they think deserves to happen. Being justified by a decision does not quash what others thought on the matter.
I was for the fix of Dr. Light, but I didn't think that SNO needed to be fixed. I didn't think that Longshot or magneto needed any changes, but I have never liked Roy or his cheapness (but he doesn't need fixing either)
The lines are never drawn the same, it's just that people will always just see black and white, and black is always going to look the same, along with the white.
ya nc was nuts i was there i got 18th playing curve and man imm sad to see overload go bye bye but sooooo happy that light show is going bye bye for now there will be something like that in the coming months with dr light but ya congrats to all the top 8 people there and all the friends i made up there oh and dave good luck ill see you in the next tourney... peace yalll
Charlotte was a blast. I was psyked for being Top 8 with Sensei Bomb as a couple other Top 8'ers were referring to it as. I was hoping I could pull it out. But I would've had to run through 3 Light Shows in a row to win and I couldn't even get past one. In the Swiss I was 1-1 against Light Show. Oh well. Won't have to worry about it next time. Congrats to Jason. He came to that tournament only having played Light Show since like the night before just a few times. He actually granted me a round 1 loss. I guess that didn't really hurt the tiebreakers though, having him in the 1st round.
Anyway, Syn]-Nexus- sorry I couldn't pull it out. I would've loved to shock the world with a Gamma Doom Deck winning a 10K. But it was not to be.
PS - Chad Daniel, if you read this, you are a great head judge. Thanks for keeping things straight.
Well folks, I just got around to making comments here. After literally being left by my ride on Friday night (after I told him I was on my way and it was only going to be about 20 minutes before I got there) I was able to find another ride to make it to Charlotte on Sunday from Eastern North Carolina. I missed out on judging the entire day Saturday and made up for it by judging the entire day, not even taking a break to do testing when Charsky was giving tests.
For those who were in Top 8 and around top 8 watching I was the table judge who stayed basically through the entire top 8. Chad and I have judged a lot of PCQs and such together so it was great working with Chad again, he and I always seem to make a great team when we're judging together and it was good to judge together in Charlotte on Sunday.
Congrats to Hager and Tillman for doing the most incredible chain I have ever seen in a match in my life. For anyone who missed it I think there's coverage on it on Metagame, if not here's what happened basically.
Hager was attempting to pull of the combo with Light, Tillman made an attempt by chaining a Cosmic Radiation with Breaking Ground targeting Devil's Due. Hager chained another Cosmic Radiation behind the Breaking Ground, Tillman chained another Breaking Ground, Hager... another Cosmic Radiation... Tillman... another Breaking Ground... Hager... another Cosmic Radiation... Tillman another Breaking Ground... and it wasn't that that wasn't amazing enough, all four Cosmic Rads and Breaking Grounds on the same chain, but when the fourth Breaking Ground resolved and replaced Devil's Due, Hager replaced into another Devil's Due! So it was like "Woah!" basically. Amazing playing in the top 8 guys, everyone did great.
Yeah, that was an awesome game. Antonino, Tillman, and I had hopes of all being in the top 4, but Jason sniped each one of us one-by-one. Congrats and good games again, Jason.
And also, I forgot to mention an interesting story in my t8 profile - "Joey Carey big stains."
