It just says exclusive prizes...so maybe new playmats, tins, shirts?
I think swag has mostly reached its saturation limit. At least it has around here.
If the City Championships deliver PC points somehow, that would be good (and a solid answer to the problem of PCQ scheduling and location that's been so prevalent since the start of the game) but I think they would have mentioned that if that were in the works...
Sorry, not really that impressed (and I like Hobby League). Unless there's some additional draw for both experienced players and newbies alike I don't see this changing the essential problem of "not enough people coming out for casual-level organized play." If exclusive EA cards weren't doing the job for Hobby League I don't see how they're going to do the job for City Championships.
It's early and the info's still incomplete, but so far... eh.
Someone needs a huggle!

Everyone who posts should start off by giving him a huggle.
Oh man, you don't know how juiced I am - which is extremely. I feel so juiced about VS man. It was looking bad for a minute there, but UDE pulled a Jean Grey and came back from the dead!
UDE points are currently used for getting ingame toys for World of Warcraft, or downloading Warcraft themed computer wallpapers.
I imagine they'll update the points store with VS stuff before March.
I don't go to any Hobby Leagues because I playtest at home during the week, and becuase I have at least two PCQs a month within 45 minutes of my home. I'd go to a City Championship though.

Also it could be interesting maybe a new format. It says that it will take place one month after the release of a new set...so maybe they will give you a month to make a real 60 card deck from the new cards only and then come back and compete or something.
I'm not a hundred percent, but I'm pretty sure they were originally announced as Silver Age events.
Also, depending on what the UDE points can be spent on, giving them out for casual events could be a draw as well.

if there is one positive thing i can say about you, it's that you are consistent at what you do in these forums.
on topic, i hope these good VS tidings will reach our shores here in Southeast Asia :).
I hate to agree with cdhb, but this info, while encouraging, doesnt address the real problem IMO. How are they going to get stores to actually order the kits? All the stores in my area stopped supporting HL ages ago. Is there some sort of incentive to get them back in the fold? Otherwise, this just means that stores that already have HL are getting a little more.
IMO, the best part of all this is the weekly column providing a consistent voice of the company. A strong company liaison will be the best thing in bringing stability to casual in-store play.
Sometimes you've got to start at the start. This is one of those cases. Build the game in locations that already are supporting and show the advantages to those locations that may not be supporting. That may not bring stores back but it provides a foundation to build on.

I wish I lived where you were I (my wife would kill me but man it would be fun to be able to play in that many pcqs a month)

I'm in the Philadelphia area. There are often PCQs here, and just over the state lines of both New Jersey and Delaware. If I wanted to travel just a bit more, New York City isn't far, and there are often PCQs both in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
I have a very understanding and supporting wife. I really should buy her some flowers.

DONT SAY THAT! That imples that VS will die again and come back again, at least 20 times, before finally trying to infect another game (Emma Frost = wow?) and coming back to vs then dying for good.
.....
Okay no more comic referencing for me.
Anyways I hope PC points are involved in some way shape or form, it'll really draw in those 'I'll never make it to a PC anyway' casual players as well as people who just plain don't play VS.
