I used to have a whole mess of ideas posted somewhere on this site...for reference and purely from memory. I will not repeat what was already posted here though. I had very similar ideas.
Evens/Odds - your deck can only consist of evens or odds costed cards. You could limit it to characters or plot twists or all cards really. Zero would be considered even.
Femme Fatale - only female characters, if you can't tell or not everyone agrees what the sex is, you can't play it.
Clone Wars - Your deck can only play a maximum of 3 different chars in the deck. All your characters are unique. You would ban Lost City and Unmasked.
Countdown to Extinction - You draw your cards and play your resources as normal except you CANNOT play any cards or flip any locations at all until you get to turn 8. No Alternate Win Conditions. You start recruiting from turn 8 and at the start of the recovery phase, you and your opponent KOs a resource. You continue until you go down to zero resources. Most games ended on turn 5 even with 75 endurance.
Chaos Magic - every turn at the end of the recovery phase right before endurance is checked, you switch endurance totals with your opponent. The only problem with this one, which I never ran yet, was the balance factor. Too many cards on turn 1 in fact to burn yourself out and win on turn 1.
Even Steven - You must first attack curve versus curve. If you cannot for some reason, then you can attack down the curve. You always check to see if you can attack on the curve and you must if able. This is also kinda awkward as well.
Random constructed - we actually played this one and it worked out very well. You build a deck that is considered 'fun and competitive' and submit it to the deck pool. You are then assigned a random deck every round in which to play. This is done on the honor system as your deck should be capable of winning and is not utter crap.
I think some sort of "team night" might be fun... AT the beginning of the month we'd assign/randomly split everyone into two teams. One side could be good guys and the other bad guys....or one side Iron-man / Pro-regestration the other Captain America / Anti-regestration....or one side only Marvel and the other Only DC, you get the idea. Then we'd have a round robin and at the end of the night the "team" with the most wins would be victorious.
I'm not sure if it would be easy to convert the rules for 'Emperor' from Magic to Vs...
you can read up on the Rules Here... but it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to convert it to vs.
Characters can only attack enemies who are directly adjacent to them, and all Plot twists, Locations, Effects etc. have a maximum range of two players in either direction.
Not really. Because the Emperor would just play either some form of stall, or a burn deck. A.W.C. would be just sick for the Emperor, like cosmic elections.
So, you would take away all of the alternate win conditions... but what about Hi-voltage, of a "Fantasticfun" type of deck? True burn could only hurt the two outside guys, but if I burn out one of them, my partner smokes their emperor. Or 3x Hi-voltage decks would crush an opposing team even quicker. You would have to remove alot of cards to make this "fair."
I am sorry if that last post made me sound like a jerk, or a buzz kill. But honestly, this type of format would need lots of work. How many ways could someone break that format? I did it in under 5min of it being posted. Even with the bannings, someone would figure out the best deck to win. Like the emperor could just use a version of GLOCK, minus 6d Sinestro, because he would break the format just as much as Galactus or Imperiex, or even Onslaught. Teen Titans would be yet another discusting deck for the team to play.
This might have been posted somewhere but i think it would be fun when Worlds finest comes out to do 8 pack sealed: 2 Worlds finest, 2 legions, 2 superman and 2 dc origins. Would probably be a 40-45 card minimum for each deck. If you can get 4-5 players, multiplayer games are really fun. My favorite format for multiplayer with at least 4 peeps is you can only attack the people on your right or left. All global effects are global however, and you can target any player/character with your effects.
