Geez... you guys act like you've never seen 7+ pages of flaming before. I was under the impression that it happened in every thread around here.
Did you get to see the thread? This thread was no mere "flame war." It was very few people trying to actuate(sp?) the point, and around 10 people flaming Aces. This was one of the best and worst threads in my memory of these forums.
If Aces would have not threatened to punch "whatshisname"(sorry, bad memory) in the face if he tried to bring dirt to a tournament again, this thread would have been just fine. The whole point of the thread was to point out to R&D that they should do more research on the formats that they are trying to promote, and try to fix what needs to be fixed. Sure, I built the deck and found ways to beat it before reading any farther in the thread than the first post... but when it is a "suprise factor" in a tournament, people will b.w.m. until they are blue in the face.
If not for the personal attacks, this would have been one of the best threads, if not the best thread in quite some time.
(Anyone who can fill in more details needs to do it without getting so mad this time, but that's what I saw when I was home for lunch.)
You forgot about the part where I admitted that I was wrong to call out players for bringing broken decks to City Championships and Hobby Leagues, and apologized to all of the players that I offended.
Then I called for a referendum on UDE's casual tournaments prize payouts so as not to warp them into "hyper-competitive events".
Then I told all of the players in Texas how I plan on whipping their butts in Houston in two weeks at the Elite Series to make up for my inability to do so at the City Championships and Random Punks tournaments. This too, will probably fail... :(
Finally, I called Stu a goober.
Wait. That didn't happen in the other thread. That happened in this thread... just now.
I find the fact that folks are crying about Kole.dec to be quite humorous.
I took Skrulls to my Random Punks tourney for the win... I'm sure the players that didn't win out there would call that deck "broken" as it has won both a City Championship AND Random Punks now.
Should we be calling for a ban on Franklin Richards? Captain America? Ethan Edwards? Mega Blast? No Man Escapes the Manhunters?
I don't think people were complaining about how good the deck was. They were complaining about the fact that the deck just sits there and does its own thing almost no matter what you do. It doesn't interact with the combat phase of the game at all (except to show you Kole with a 30+ ### for the turn).
That being said its a legal deck for an event with good swag. Deal.
Meltdown in this format and significantly slows down a lot of decks. Syndicate Rush gets its glider smacked. Voltage/Energy Burn variants lose hardware. Check variants lose Knight armor or fate pieces, lost city variants lose Nth Metal, good guy variants lose Nth Metal, MultipleMan decks lose Ego Gem, this combo deck loses its mind gem, morlocks loses mind gem, squad has a variety of equipment you can nuke. I think I missed a few. Against decks that play none of the above you can still use it to replace a resource, gain 2 life or meet a discard cost.
If you're going into unpredictable environments its a good idea to bring fairly generic hosers particularly flexible ones. Meltdown fits the bill and does a lot to slow the combo deck down. If you're cheating on hosers (not running good fairly generic hate cards that are available) you deserve to lose to decks that have difficulty with losing cards those hosers work against.
Anyways yeah, I contributed to the thread that got nuked also. I basically told aces to stop whining about people trying to win because they need mobilize for Indy.
I'm not whining. I'm stating a fact that 3 other Pros stated them selves. OK I could care less what any one says. We as a community and 3 pros didn't find it cool for him to bring that deck.
Yes there where 3 pros there and all of them said that he shouldn't have brought it to a HL event if that makes you fell better.
I'd bet those "3 pros" were just pissy they didn't walk with the Mobilizes.
Geez... you know, "solitare" has been a part of this game since Origins days. It's not like this deck is really anything new (Evasion/Ratcatcher-Burn). While I most certainly dislike sitting across the table from it, I know I won't generally be facing it (or a deck like it) 9 out of 10 matches.
Were this a PC level event, you would have seen several individuals showing up with the deck if testing had shown it was the best deck in the enviroment to play en masse because there is cash on the line. With EA Mobilizes (plus a really spiffy Howard the Duck mat) on the line, this should have treated as a "high level" event for HL if nothing else and you should have expected folks to show up playing the "best possible deck"...even if it was made up of only commons and uncommons.
Crying about it helps nothing just as it changes nothing.
Excellent job on the Kole deck. Glad to see something fun to play (read: not always fun to play against) coming out of these events.
