Coming in first tonight was myself, with a Teen team of Cuckoos and Marvel Girl.
Cuckoos, Marvel Girl and some amazing dice as well.
Well, there was also the strong use of tactics and positioning, and exploitation of mistakes made by your opponent in the first round. (I don't know how your second game went)
But it was obviously the dice that won the game. Everything else was irrelevant. 8)

I like to use the exact same dice every weel. They tend to either run hot or cold, with little in between - plenty of games where I've missed a whole bunch of 6s.

Some similarities. My Johnny missed his first Pulse Wave again (failing to "activate" the Cuckoos), but followed with a very successful TK-Running Shot. I used all of my thematic PC in one action to push a couple of Cuckoos. My Johnny got the snot pounded out of him, I pulled ahead with some Mind Control, and then the Cuckoos Hive-Minded their damage to clean up what I needed to win.

Since I very rarely play Poison, you'll be able to say that about every team ever.
Next week, Thursday the 3rd of September - Condition Crisis!
600 point constructed tournament; six actions per turn.
Two rounds.
Your force must include three different Battlefield Conditions. All three are considered in play during each game. You may not use Ordinary Day, and you may not use both Darkness and Deep Shadows. Otherwise, any other combination is allowed.
Each player can cancel one (and only one) battlefield condition each game. (A thematic team does not grant any additional ability to ignore battlefield conditions.)
Any Questions?
This means that every game will have between four and six BFCs in play at any time.
If you're worried about colossal figures (not that anybody seemed interested in bringing one - I'm not going to) good choices are Crosswinds and Disbanded.
Following on from this...
I mentioned last week that we've got a very sizeable collection of prize support now, which has been put together from generous donors (such as glen_smith and drax), leftovers from some defunct venues, and a bit of trading on HCR (while things were going cheap!). Here are some photographs to give you an idea.
While we've been in this lull and unable to buy any boosters from the venue, it's good to know that there are still new clix every week.
Condition Crisis was won by M.O.D.O.C. (with an aquatic team), followed by Mr_Nobody (Gotham villains based around the Clown Prince of Crime), myself (Thor's Mighty Chariot plus support), and then Ben (Legion Teens with Anarky, Bucky, and X-23).
Next week, Thursday the 10th of September - ARMADAS!
700 point constructed tournament; four actions per turn.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditons.
Your force must include exactly seven characters, one from each category:
A = Artillery (archery or heavy ranged weaponry)
R = Ruffian (a fighter or scrapper, a martial artist)
M = Mystic/Mentalist (psychics, psionicists, magicians, and supernatural beings)
A = Alien/Aquatic (someone not of Earth or that lives beneath the sea)
D = Detective/Doctor (intellectuals such as detectives and scientists)
A = Armour/Android (Purely technological heroes - power armour, androids, and robots)
S = Speedster (moves faster than the eye)
Any Questions?

A prime example of this would be Stafire and Nightwing. Do they:
1) Count as one "figure" or
2) Do they count as two under Ruffian (Nightwing) and Alien (Starfire)
Also, the description for Artillary reads "..or heavy ranged weaponry". What exactly does "heavy" constitute, as a handgun (Deadpool, Hitman, etc) doesn't strike me as heavy per se.
Here's an iffy question that I'm going to throw out to everybody - do you think that Spider-Man is a legit choice as speedster?
Wikipedia describes Spider-Man as possessing "Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, durability", and other powers.
He's certainly a lot faster than any human.
So is Spider-Man an acceptable speedster, or do you think we should stick to chracters with HSS?
It depends on what is meant as speedsters? I was thinking the classic comic book thing of characters who's power is that they can move really, really fast (ie Flash, Northstar, Mean Streak, etc)
Taking superhuman as meaning more than human, like it is being used in your example, then would you consider Namor or Aquaman as a speedster? They can both swim at superhuman speeds.
Realistically, if we just take 'faster than a human can be' as the defining factor of being a speedster, then a lot of characters can count as one. Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Hourman (during his hour of power), Silver Surfer, Hulk, etc, etc..
Having said that, I don't like classifying it as 'A Speedster has HSS', as this means that Infinity Challenge Quicksilver isn't considered a speedster, but Clobberin' Time Nightcrawler would be one.
I think the best way to answer your query would be if I asked you to name me 5 speedsters from the DC or Marvel universes, would Spiderman be on your list?
Having said all this though, as we're supposed to be playing for fun, I don't really mind if you use him. 8)

Personally? I think that they should count as seperate characters for the purposes of meeting ARMADA requirements. Your example of Nightwing and Starfire provides an excellent reason why - they are very different characters.

There's a rookie Deadpool on my desk right now, and in his left hand he's carrying a semi-automatic of some sort. That's pretty heavy.
For Artillery, look at a character who does significantly more physical damage with her ranged attacks than up close. Someone like Ms Marvel isn't artillery because she can punch as hard as she can blast. Black Lightning, on the other hand, can pretty much just blast.

I definitely don't want it to be restricted to just HSS characters (especially as many themes don't have that kind of speedster, and people may like to play theme).

Probably not, but neither would Meanstreak.
If somebody wants to use as his speedster a character who can dodge bullets, I kinda think that's justified. Namor can swim fast, but that's in water only.

The winner this week was M.O.D.O.C., with Fin Fang Foom! After that I believe it was Sgt_Grimes second, and possibly me third.
Next week, Thursday the 17th of September - Tax Brackets!
1050 point constructed tournament (but see below); three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield conditions.
Your force must consist of exactly six characters, one each from the following brackets:
1-50 points
51-100 points
101-150 points
151-200 points
201-250 points
251-300 points
Each character may have one feat. This feats costs zero points. No two characters may have the same feat.
No colossal characters (Sentinel, Sinestro).
Any Questions?
Note: The minimum force build possible with these six brackets is 756 points. The maximum force build possible with these six brackets (not including feats) is 1050 points - a 294 point difference. I don't recommend that you play a force of less than 900 points, but whatever works for you!
Mr_Nobody and I will be out of town, but we'll ensure that there are some figures for prize support behind the counter.
And if we get a tournament at Macquariecon in December it is shaping up to be quite cool... let's just say that there will be at least two colossal/multi-base figures up for grabs... I can't promise the kind of prizes that the 2008 Nationals had in GenCon, but it should still be well worth competing!
