Flashback time: a few years back I decided to laser remove a few moles that were bothering me. As I went to sit on the operating seat, the doctor looked at the laser, and then commented that "the settings were way off, and he wondered who had used it before and for what bizarre sci-fi reason". He then turned the settings down, and started the procedure. Still to this day I'm not sure how serious he was, because if he was joking, he hid it very well. So well that I was slightly panicking during the start.
Have I ever told you about the guy I knew who was working at NASA back in the early days of satellite communications? Bouncing signals off the Moon was kind of a popular thing for a bit, and it seems that some guys got to wondering what would happen if they got a high-powered laser and blasted a hole the size of a quarter through the Moon. THROUGH THE MOON. So, yeah. Apparently Dr. Doom was working for NASA back in the '60s.

Pax, if I can buy singles then that definitely will be the way to go.
The one ship that I would definitely like to get is the USS Reliant, captained by Khan. (I think it's an LE, though, and probably in high demand.)
Talking about something different, though... I keep hearing a huge buzz around Hunger Games. I know that the movie is coming out soon. What is the premise of the story? Is it a good read? (I am currently hooked on George RR Martin and his "Song of Ice and Fire" quadrilogy.)
I got the books for my bday and read the first one in 2 days. Really good and can't wait for the movie now. I hear that the second book isn't as good as the first. I'm only a little ways into it. And the third book gets boring in spots, unfortunately.
Basically it is America, post big uprising agaisnt the government. Where the government gave the citizens a huge smack down. They changed the way society works, big time, and have these Hunger GAmes every year to remind society that they have control over them. The Hunger Games are a game where one boy and one girl between ages (I think) 12? and 18 are chosen from each of the 12 districts. These "contestants" are then prepped and placed in a huge outdoor arena and fight for their lives. Last one to survive "wins". They are given betters lives within their districts and other stuff.
Reminds me a little of The Long Walk, though The Long Walk was much darker.
I read the first book, wasn't impressed. I mean if America is really like that you would think someone would come in and take over. Would probably be rather easy to rally up the people to go against their own government at that point anyways. It is sort of like the Movie/Manga Battle Royal, just not as good.

This. Long Walk + Running Man, really. Maybe even sprinkle in some Rage. Basically all of The Bachmann Books (although I never read Roadwork)
I just finished reading it last week, and yeah, a pretty good book and it moves along at a nice click, not too much padding. Interested to see where they go with it in future books, but on a whole, I'd recommend it, Katniss is a fun character...
"Why would the possibility of me being wrong ever stop me from doing something?"
Slave labor. Swoop in, take over, and start making them do all the work for nothing. Granted you would do that after promising them a better life and what not to get them to help you out...
