Well, she got a pained expression on her face and started to tear up while we were talking, so I'm pretty sure shes legitimately hurting.

I can't believe I'm saying this... But Carlos and Wade are right. I'd steer clear.

Also be "legitimately hurting" in NO WAY means that she don't want to do that again. So, don't date you for not be hurt is NOT a valid excuse for don't hand out with you. It just mean that she don't want to hang out with "good guys" because she find them "unchallenging" (even if she know it or not and even if she repeat all the time the lie of "I want to meet a honest guy, bla bla bla").

The real truth and fact is that she and ladies like she will date the SAME guy OR the SAME kind of guy over and over and over again and will always say "I'm sorry, I pass" to all the "good" guys. This is a fact until the lady become EXTREME mature about things and for that can happen milleniums on her life.
