I remember years ago when Bendis only had less than 2 years at Marvel as a writer:
He was currenty writing:
1) Powers
-- Still his best work to date
2) Ultimate Spider-Man
-- Starting to loose a little steam.
3) Ultimate Marvel Team-Up
-- a very good series, IMHO.
Around this time he was offered another Marvel book to write. IIRC, it was Elektra.
It was also at this time that he gave an interview to Wizard Magazine stating how he was giving up his reigns on Ultimate Marvel Team-Up because he said he wouldn't be able to give it his full attention by adding another book to his reportoire [sp?]. He also wrote a one page apology at the end of his story of his last UMTU book explaining to his readers that because of the new book he would be writing he was reluctantly giving up UMTU because he was afraid the writing would suffer if he wrote too many books.
I wonder what happened in the short few years that have gone by because it seemed as if he was writing nearly every Marvel book at one point.

hmm, umm... my guess?
I would guess he is getting more cash then he was back then.
As if he's worth it.
And now, from Bendis, we will be seeing the "Ultimate" Clone Saga... Wow, people see those ads and they may end up hiding somewhere where Marvel comics never show up, so they can avoid that "saga".

I am so dreading this. My only hope is that he makes it original and different from the first dreck that was such a debacle.
hmm, in the Ultimate FF, they showed that the hero who carried the zombie "virus" to the "zombieverse" was in fact Sentry. This could be a good way to get rid of him. Have him contract the virus, and in order to prevent his infecting others, he gets hurled thru some spatial distortion and lands in the zombieverse, and there ya go.
I really like Bendis' work...except when he tries one of two things:
1) Team books (maybe because he is too good at individuals?) There is no shame in not being a strong team writer, especially when he produced masterpieces like Alias, Powers, Daredevil, Powers etc. This man can plot an individuals trajectory with great precision...but his team books hit the target like a certain Vice-President.
2) Stories that rely strongly on continuity...he's admitted to confusing the identity of Jessica Drew/Jones (back when pitching Alias) he brought down firey damnation from other professions for his initial use of Luke Cage, he just guessed at what villains to use in the Secret War, etc. etc.
Sentry took out Iron man in the Iron Man book (inevitable or whatever it it's called). But it wasn't some knockdown dragout fight. Tony was trying to get away, and Sentry hit him, running him into the ground. Sentry was working with someone, who I found to be quite surprising. I don't remember if it was CW-related, but if it is.....that can't be good for the chances of Thor being on Cap's side. And maybe that will make for a great twist Sentry on Cap's side & Thor on Iron Man's side.
Iron Man appears to be taking place prior to Civil War right now as Cap is still leading the Avengers when they show up for the peace delegation.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"

He even realizes this flaw in his writing. Back when the Ultimate Universe was first being created he was supposed to write Ultimate X-Men as well as Ultimate Spidey. He said in a Wizard Interview that he turned down Ult XM because he couldn't write team books.
I think I remember reading that interview (either reprinted in Powers, or online at Jinxworld). The Bendis is an amazingly brave guy for being brutally honest...I just hope that he's getting well rewarded for his participation in some of these train wrecks (Secret War, HoM, now Civil War)

I think it was reprinted in a Powers letter column [still the best letter column out there, btw].
I actually liked Secret War. Sure, it could have been better in some spots, but after I read it in one sitting I said to myself: "That was good." and, I don't say that much anymore.
As to HoM:
I boycotted it simply because HoM caused the cancellation of Claremont's Excalibur book. This was a slap in the face to me and I boycotted HoM fully. At WWT last year I even mentioned this to Peter David. He told me that he honored and respected my loyalty to writers. Especially after I told him I boycotted The Incredible Hulk when he was fired fromt he book years ago.
He told me, though, that I should pick up and read the TPB of HoM. Knowing what I liked he knew I would appreciate it. And, he was right. I did like it. It was different.

Ouch, oh well least I like Civil War so far (I liked HoM and Secret War too... ). Meh, opinions are opinions.
I would like to see a Sentry comic, provided Jenkins is writing in and its not in the main continuity. He just seems out of place in the New Avengers to me. Whats the point in having a strong guy like Luke Cage fighting on your team when you have Sentry offering to throw whole island nations into space?
I don't think he needs his own series. i mean, he's had two now with little or no success. what the Sentry needs is a good writer/art team.
i volunteer chuck dixon/jim lee for the task.
other ideas?
i just think romita jr (is that his name) on the most recent series was the exact opposite style of art they should be going with. his style is more of a homage to the silver age of comics and what you need is somebody of lee/ross calibur to really capture the magesty of the power level that the Sentry represents.

I think Dixon and Lee might have something to say about you volunteering them, James.

JR, Jr's style is definitely a Silver Age art style. But, this would seem to fit the Sentry perfectly since his roots are supposed to have originated in the Silver Age when he was active.

First, I dunno if Jenkins can/will build up Sentry like Sentry needs to be built up, I think a writer like Loeb can/would do a better job of that. And any Sentry book will be in continuity. As for him being to strong, you could say the samething about Thor being an Avenger.
Theres only one Return, and it ain't of the King, its of the Jedi.

I agree, I think Jenkins is far to story driven to showcase the Sentry's vast power.
