Do you guys think something like another "final word" sub forum would work?
A Final Word-esque forum could work very well, provided a few tweaks are made.
One of the biggest limitations I found myself facing as I helped write the original was how quickly it became rather unwieldly. Even with a standardized format to the thread title to aid searching, it sometimes felt as if I was looking for a needle in a haystack and I *wrote* most of the darned things... Average Joe User wouldn't even know if there was something to look for, much less where exactly it was.
At the time, I asked Typhon if it would be possible to get individual sub-forums for each set and it didn't happen (don't know if it was due to technical limitations or if it was just flat-out too much grunt work for him to do that on top of everything else he already does). So if you still can't do sub-forums for each set, linking each entry to the specific character the units sections seems like the next logical step. Then, all that is left "floating" is anything to do with general game mechanics, PAC questions, etc.
Whatever you come up with, I am looking forward to seeing it.
Another possibility that just occurred to me is to have individual threads for each set and/or topic, and then each post within that thread devoted to a specific character. That's still potentially a lot of posts in a single thread (counting chases, LEs, FF, CTD, etc), but at least you could see that this thread is clearly about Deadpool and that thread is clearly about WoL and so on.

That was kinda my thinking with the compiled threads - I think that works pretty well.
It just becomes a bit of a pain to keep track of what matters vs. what doesn't
