Well, i think that if the deck doesn't get out something to stall the opponent with then, combined with a lot of M/T removal, its game over almost. I think that the burn deck takes a lot of things in the deck to work for it to win.
For example:
youve got to have the stall cards out
cards such as Wave Motion Cannon have also got to be out and be protected, that goes for the stall cards as well
the deck must be able to protect its monsters and have them flipping each turn
for the deck to win, it has to win by both the monsters and the magic&traps, as compared to the average CC which can pound you with swarm and/or play defensive for a few turns only to turn on the heat in a couple turns
i think that burn decks are really under estimated, the other day i went to local books a million to play with a couple of my friends and i brought my burn deck i thought they were gonna beat me easily, but i almoost if not always beat them on the 3rd turn and they were so stunned it wasn't even funny then they tried to copy but failed horribly, but i think it was the last SJC the third place winner used a burn deck if i'm not mistaken.
I've Been Thinking About a Side Deck for Burn lately...
And I believe I have something.
I came up with this trying to create a Last Turn deck. I noticed that I was using many of the same cards I use in my Stall/Burn in my Last Turn. Then I started putting two and two together and I got this:
3 Wall of Revealing Light
3 Self-Destruct Button
2 Upstart Goblin
3 Solemn Judgment
1 Threatening Roar >>I had two in my main deck.
2 A Cat of Ill Omen
1 Morphing Jar
Burn decks almost ALWAYS win Game 1, so my setup for the next two duels would be to force draws. And with 3 Walls and 3 Buttons, I'll have a good chance to make that happen. Even if I don't win Game 1, I can use my 3 Solemns to help protect a win.
I've tried to go the Magic Drain/Cursed Seal/Solemn route. I would often side in 2 Solemn and 2 Magic Drain. They never came up for me. :(
I've always had problems with my Side Deck. My main deck wins me every game 1 nowadays, so I don't need to tweak that anymore than I need to. I have trouble with using my side deck to win half of the games I need to use it in. I only beat a great CC deck this past weekend because I sided in 8 cards.
I still need help to make a better side deck. Here's my current side deck if anyone cares to look at it and see what I'm doing wrong:
1 Kinetic Soldier
1 Des Wombat
1 Mystic Swordsman LV2
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Heavy Storm
2 Magic Reflector
2 Solemn Judgment
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell
2 Sakuretsu Armor
2 Dust Tornado
The solution is simple. Make your side deck burn, then play burn and when ure opponents side against it, make it back to CC. And so on. But I like OTK's better. When theyre wellbuild they are the key to winning. And I proved that last year, when OTK's placed 1st, 5th and 9th (me). All build on the strategy I started on! Should have saved it to nationals ^^ And yes there was alot Cookie Cutter decks!
