And 24" range will mean a balac has to get in range, and can't get first strike, assuming these things end up with the 180 arc the pic shows. Other variants might be limited to 135 degrees.

and TenExs: you read correctly, you're probably forgetting the DI Towed AA Artillery.
Yea, it hit me after I hit the enter key. But then again can you really call something that does one click of damage an AA weapon? I call it an inconvenience.
This looks very nice, to say the least. And SS gets one!!!!!!!!
Our Partisan is the best of the bunch (and still useful, since it's a lot cheaper than this new one), and unless the attack value is absurdly low our MHI AA will probably be the best of these, too.
I'd guess low speeds, short dials, high damage, average defence, and mediocre attack values.
From the sound of it, armor SEs will be on most, if not all, of these AA tanks, too.
I like that they have a new unit that cost about the same as the unit it is designed to kill. The Donar/Balac VTOLs all cost around 50+ points. This AA unit also costs around 50+ points. This brings a good balance to the game.
Unless they all have attack values starting at 10, or 9 with IT, they're going to be 49-63 wasted points.
Sure, it'd do great against a SS Balac, with its defense of 16 (17 at cruising), but the VTOLs in Liao Incursion tend to have defensive values from 20 to 23 at cruising. If this tank only has an 8 attack you're going to need to roll 12 to 15 to hit.
Before Liao Incursion I always tried to include a Partisan in my battleforce (SS or SW). A 32 to 40 point Partisan is a worthwhile piece to spend points on to counter a 53 point SS Balac. After Liao Incursion I stopped bothering, as so many of the new VTOLs had high enough defenses that a Partisan wasn't an effective deterrance.
This tank is almost twice the cost of a Partisan, and the Bannson's one we can see only has one target, so it's about half as effective. It only has a 180 degree arc, too, so you need to protect its rear flanks with even more points worth of units.
It would have been SO much better if it was more like just an upgraded Partisan with a 360 degree arc, hover speed mode, and only 3 damage with AP. 3 damage is sufficent to reduce any VTOL to near ineffectiveness. This way they could keep the point cost down to 40 to 50, just above the Partisans.
Anybody else find it ironic that the manufacturer of this AA tank is Michaelson Heavy Industries? :)
For those unfamiliar with the canon, before the Jihad, MHI is/was regarded as the best producer of combat VTOLs. Their products included the Sprint scout helicopter, the Cavalry attack VTOL, the Mantis (attack?) VTOL, the Hawk Moth gunship, and the Yellow Jacket gunship.
OH MAN THESE THINGS ARE SWEET...Looks like I only need the SW Version...Wish they would spread out the AA goodness...my SC's are kinda vonerable (allthough one can use a donnar for AA (as noted previously)) Anyways, nice unit, thanx WK ^_^
