Agreed Raptor1313, I too would like to see this, this guy is a bit scary, but I have to admit, the right non class mech with his plus to attack and doing enough damage is NOT gonna be such an easy target methinks, as so many have mentioned previously, while now with the limited looksee we have he looks plain stoopid ( I admit that) we have not seen it all as yet (officially) and so I am willing to bet there is a NASTEE hombre (or two? oh JOY, happy happy joy JOY!) lurking that this guy makes nasty to the core...i for one would love to see that, it is after all an ASSAULT class mech, so go ASSAULT something already! :ermm:
his +2 "could" even itself out is all I'm sayin.
btw the jokes on the Hero academy = PRICELESS!! ROTFLMBO!! :p
Guys, it's +2 attack on an Assualt 'Mech for 20 points (and it doesn't need to pay recruit costs, either). Who cares about the defense? Defense doesn't win games, killing your opponent on the cheap does.
Defense doesn't win games. It keeps your unit alive long enough to enable you to win games. With the proliferation of high attack values in recent sets, you need more defense than almost anything else. A pilot that lowers defense at the expense of attack is a poor trade, IMHO.
I mentioned on the WK forums if KellyB or KevinG can confirm or deny if that -1 DV is an error???
It's no error. For your further enjoyment, here's the back of this card:
"The Hero Training Institute (HTI) has made great improvements in both curriculum and equipment, coming a long way from advertising on matchbook covers for potential students. Still privately owned and run, the Institute has come under new management in an effort to cultivate a better reputation among training academies. Graduates of HTI who have made their way to the current conflicts have not been forthcoming about their educational background, raising both eyebrows and suspicion among their peers."

So is the new management a division of Bannson Universal. It would explain Jacob Bannson's negative defense modifier.
That's a good point, but the fluff says the pilot is skilled in survivability. It makes the -1 just laughable.
Come on guys, survivability isn't the course on "defensive fighting." It's living off the land, hiding in hostile territory, etc.
Since this guy is so aggressive in battle, charging into battle without the well-being of his 'Mech in mind, he needs those skills to survive in the field once he ejects from his 'Mech.
I don't know how expensive Gabriel Smith is off the top of my head, but won't this pilot slide right in to Chikako, letting the hulldown make up for the -1 defense? Just a thought.
Love the post Kelly, explains alot about this "school" lol...
I could see this pilot in Chikako, hull down while helpful only nets you a 22 though. Course, gotta keep in mind you have some decent assault range and can do the streak thing.
Personaly I do believe that negitive mods should make pilots and such even cheaper then this, but still. I'd probebly be able to find uses for him. In a way that defense mod does almost make me think I'd rather not use a pilot in general (which can be workable)
Heh, WK staff finally pouring on the humour??
Maybe we could have an expansion thats all a laugh, like that M:tG one (forgot the name, the one with the blacker lotus). :p
Will we be seeing anymore HTI Grads for other weight classes?? Maybe for negative point costs, we can sacrifice some of the mechs stats (Ooo...... -2/-1/-1, and I can put in an extra sylph AND still have a mech). :)
I think this is a useful card, But the whole premise of an assault mech is ITS HARD TO HIT with a lack of units (Except for the HL battlemaster i believe) In AOD with 23 D's, and the greater odds non assault mechs will have 22 or 21 Def at best it is taking away that "Hard roll" for your ooponent with the 10 attack to hit you. The only way i would not toss in another assault pilot in exchange of this one is if the attacks on the assaults are grossly low (9 or worse) or else ill just toss a gunslinger in with a +2 Atk and A bonus to defense. The same reason no one plays JB is the same reason the use of this card will be reserved.
For 20 points for this bloke and 3 more spent on SU Camo, you can sit Chikako in hindering with a decent defence and save 30-odd points over Gabe or Dean. that's enough to get a JF Sylph to go and get the arty that will no doubt zero in on you the moment you enter the green stuff.

i actually agree with Cloudmoon on this. :speechles :speechles
it will be more interesting to see how the pilot compares against the other new generic pilots. he has a bit going for him an if he was the only generic for assaults who else you gonna get to pilot your assault class 'Mech with the maximum possible saving in points? most assault class 'Mechs do make it through a 50min game, damaged however not salvaged if played properly due to their long dials so giving an effective +1 if using an AO is always a plus at assault class level.
not saying great however what do you expect from the correspondence school for MechWarriors???
