I am against banning. Anything. Ever. You will never stop with one or two figs. Then another fig will follow, and another and another.
People have repeatedly said that there is not such thing as an unbeatable army, and I tend to agree with them. Its all a matter of skill (in army selection, terrain placement and tactics) and luck. How many people have beaten A-Dracs? Probably not the easiest thing, but hey, its doable. Same with Corpheus. So think new strategies, new FAQs to limit ability abuse, but don't think banning. It ain't worth it.

"I propose this: everyone who thinks things should be banned needs to get on ebay and buy up as many of these "broken" figs as possible and burn them to make them more rare....good idea?"
ok i think im going to loan my lifes earnings to spend it on as many $300 annubs 30$ Strikers $45 Amazon Drac. whatever bakus cost just to have to face them anyway by people that are just selling me there "doubles".... I dont know but having my entire formations destoryed by a single super fast near untouchable unit to be very very more than fustrating also a newbie using his "good unique" not even living to see the day by taking 5 damage from a bounding AD then on the counter AD doging his blow. a simple push and roll and that "good" unique is gone and that newbie just went 0-4 not a very good "entry" enviroment if you ask me. whould you perfer that a unit come out for 1 point 30movement bound with 20 range that cost 15k? just because it cost alot of money and is rare is no reason to buy its owner a ticket to win every game he ever plays? The solution that everyone seems to agree on is new SA's that help counter the hurt but if WK put these figs in the enviroment to begin with how can we expect them to get the SAs to counter them right? unlike what some of you think the current enviroment is MUCH harder on a new player then a "restrited enviroment" whould be I mean lets face it... its better for a new player to pull a AD and learn that its banned than to have ALL the new players that arent quite as lucky to have to face the AD with their limited selection of figs. "all figs have there highs and there lows, quit whining" ADs Highs:high bound high attack 5 piercing damage Dogde Lows:critical misses, LI WALLS, autodamage (if they can even get close to it when its support arrives) im affriad sometimes a units highs exceeds its lows.... this is not a perfect world. Just my two cents its free to disagree.
Actually I would ban all the crappy figures like wood golem and Crystal Bladesman so that everyone HAS to play ADRAC! That way when people talk about how ADRAC is the best figure in the game they'll actually have a point to argue!
CBs are crappy figures? I hope Haiku doesn't see that - she'd probably kill you... back when it was just Rebellion - they were actually one of the better figures out there.
As for how this thread is going? I love it - Personally (just incase you couldn't tell) I am completely against banning, even figures that I don't like. Most of the figures that people are complaining about now didn't exist when Rebellion was the only thing around - but still people complained of certain figures/strategies. True, the StormGolem Deathstar COULD be beaten, but that didn't keep it from popping up in EVERY venue. look at the very old threads (that have all probably been archived), half the people complained of deathstar turtles - and the otherhalf tried to explain how to take them down.. THe same thing can be seen nowdays, half the people talk about AD/Striker/Podo as being over powerfull - and the other half talk about how to kill the said power figure.
Obviously they are powerful - but obviously they aren't a garentee win.
Xanathon, sorry for the flame but, if you are a good as you say and you know all these ways to beat the VERY BROKE AD, then post them. As far as your "elite players" knowing how to handle these figures. Alot of the elite players that I know (including myself, yes I include myself), deal with these figures in one way: By playing them themselfs, because its the only way to beat them right now.
By banning only 2 figures (AD and Corph), the balance of the game would be ALOT better than it is now. The others on all of these lists are beatable by more armies than just other big bound.
Pfeh. Good luck rolling a 9 to hit Corphy. (or 8 plus a missed dodge roll on Amazon Drac). ;)
I agree with the fact that Amazon Drac and Corphy need to be banned. Not Bakus, for he's rare and can deal so little damage for his cost.
Or, bring back the old ML rules in Rebellion (not Conquest) - a ML/Ram could easily trash either of the uber-bounders.
My solution to beat Amazon Drac or Corphy? Play Amazon Drac or Corphy. And I'm think I'm pretty darned good at MK (I hope - we haven't had many people come recently). LI would be a good idea if there were more efficient LI'ers besides Zombie Baron and the Crystal Protectors. But until then, the best thing to do is either slow down the two power figs or bring back some old rules.
Well since you challenged me. Post an army using any of the big bounders and I will tell you how it could be beat and with an army that can beat it.
The reason that I don't post strategies a lot is this.
People need to learn for themselves. Plus there are a lot of other people that are more well known that I am that post very good strategies.
When I played Magic the Gathering my biggest pet peve was people that would take a deck straight from one of the magazines, call it their own, and then trash talk about how good they are when they beat people with it.
These are the requirements of what I consider to be a good player.
1. Comes up with their own ideas for the armies they play.
2. Always learning from the games they play.
3. Knows the strengths and weaknesses of the figures in the game both on their side and their opponents side.
4. Knows the rules.
5. Can teach players how to become better.
6. Never feels that if they go up against one specific figure they will automatically loose.
I have stated that I feel that I am a good player and I feel that there are enough people out there that would back me up on this. I have not stated that I am an elite player. I just don't play enough to be considered elite.
Beating corhpy is easy, just set up a target, let him hit it, then hit him back either with range and then base him, same for AD. Or use terrian to deny or at least complicate thier LOS.
And BTW once you let the banning genie out of the bottle you can never put him back in and it becomes an excuse for wizkids to not test as much. After all if they can just ban it if it is so overpowered why bother to play test?
AD is powerful but not over powered, I actually traded mine to get some EL uniques I wanted, and my corphy hasn't been used in rebellion. I do use corphy in conquest for some formation control but at that point he isn't that over powered.
This discussion is interesting but unnecessary. WK is not banning anything.
As for me, I never liked the cheese but I agree with Keeg - you have to go there to win. I won a major tourney with big bound, and Corpheus won me the final round (had to use a different army each round). I came in second in a competition for War with a Corpheus army. The winner? He had an AD.
I am just thankful they are common pieces. I have a Bakus - it doesn't do much damage for its cost. Corphy and AD are big hitters, and quite dangerous. I would be in support of a high-level tournament environment that banned the list BShugg had up earlier. I think it would be interesting if Nationals was one "Limited" tournament with those figures banned, and one "Unlimited" tournament, with anything goes. I think the "Limited" format could even be 300 points - It would be quite interesting to see the variety!
Supergoblin, the ram or venom that should be in the army with the AD or corph will take care of the LI then the big bounder sweeps up. I already tried the LI card, and even with the best LI figures (which are almost all LE's, and half of those aren't even out yet), a good AD army will roll right over them.
Xanathon, no specific army, just take AD, a magic healer, a figure with a high move with Ram or venom, and filler from there. Without using big bound against it, it is very hard to beat.
Again I agree with Xanathon (I hope to see you at nationals) where strategy wins out over just reading about some "unbeatable" army then copying it. This is a strategy game where you look at what is out there and find the best army that suits your style and strategy. And for the record I will not tell you the army I used (hopefully it will be a suprise at nationals) but I will tell ya that I did not use and AD,corph, marrow, prye, crystal protector or any of the figures that I see posted on the site just to prove that you can win (infact I slaughtered the competition at the NQ) with proper strategy and planing. Maybee the AD should have cost a little bit more but now ways hould it be banned or some freaky errata be put on it just because some people cant make armies themselfs, plus if you ban AD&Corph another army will just take their place and people will be complaining about that.
I think you are all wrong..... the only figure that should be banned should be Podo. Hes way too powerful and causes too much trouble.
:D
Honestly... I don't think any figure should be banned. There are always ways around things. Each figure is worth his/her point cost. In games like Magic.... you can make overly powerful cards like the Moxes for example. In MK... each figures power, etc reflects its point cost so I see no point in banning anything. In my opinion... banning figures just decreases the thought and strategy skill a person has to undergo in order to master this game. Thats what this game is all about..... and banning things just ruins/depletes the whole purpose. What upsets me is the fact that all the figures that people are listing to ban are the really sweet figures.... when a lot of you JUST got done complaining about how there were no really sweet figures in Uprising. Come on people.... variety = more versitility and more fun play for everyone.
