Like many of you I was bummed most of the day after reading the posting on the WizKids site at lunch. After work, I stopped by the gaming store and told this to the owner who is a smart guy with a marketing degree. He replied, “Not an other one of those things again.” I was confused with his response. He explained, that many games have been “Canaled” and then resurrected. It is a marketing technique that companies use form time to time. He also said that with its sales he is all but 100% sure that in the next six months we will see, “Back by popular demand . . .” or something similar . He said they may make it some kind of assembled styrene card game or something like that, since it is cheaper. However, he said we will se it again. So for now I am going to sit and wait and see what happenes

Hey, there's a blast from the past! Good to see you're still around... yeah, some of us are foolish enough to get shafted- TWICE! *sigh* No, I for one will never learn, it seems.
Hmm.. I mean its not the best situation now that its stopped, but strangely I felt that it was sort of coming. I don't feel as lousy as I thought I would have.
This probably sounds wierd but in fact I feel a strange sort of release from the grind of getting new uniques and boosters etc. Now I can pull out my old figs, and just play with them, no more new rules, no more faq, just the ones that are here now, for better or for worse.
Now if my group (well I hope they still are keen) would not mind, we can just pull out what we have and treat it more like a non collectable game from now. No more collecting and chasing Uniques, LE, Good nons etc.
I mean we did sort of see it coming, with dwindling attendences, tougher mechanics leading to the difficulty of getting new players, FAQ's, slow response time etc bogging down the game.
I can't believe so many people are surprised by this. The writing has been on the wall for a very long time.
I won't go into the whole Jordan Weissman thing. In my opinion he showed his true colors a long time ago.
I would be willing to bet that it will show up again in a different version though I find it difficult to believe that anyone would buy into it.
It was a great game that was very badly handled.
Be glad that you had a lot of fun while it lasted and hopefully made some friends.
As for myself I got out right after 2.0 came out. It wasn't an easy decision but the right one for me. I had a lot of fun for the time I was playing and I did make several new friends that I still get together with quite often.
Good luck to all of you. I hope you all find something new that you enjoy as much as we did this game.
"End of Mage Knight in Present Format"?
So, is there going to be Magic the Gathering-like formats? Vintage? Legacy? Standard?
So sad to see the end of a game I've enjoyed so much...
Review of the end of MK:
Pros:
Nexus boosters will be cheap
No more LEs to throw money at
Soon I'll be able to acquire a Black Knight for dirt?
Can stop mentally mixing rulesets for MK and MW
Don't have to pursue the envoy test anymore
Cons:
Can't sell my nons/unused uniques
No approved play/storylines
Have to find a different game or maybe a mistress for Tuesday nights
Top 10 Alternate Uses for your piles of MK figures:
1. Repackage and sell back to China as alternate fuel source for petroleum hungry economy.
2. Bury in time capsule till 2105.
3. Make hollow chocolate eggs and insert a (sterilized) figure in each. Give them out at Halloween for the next ten years.
4. Make massive Conquest armies and use real explosive charges/projectiles for each attack.
5. Shred and use as insulation in your walls/attic or as weed barrier in your garden.
6. Randomly pick address from a charity directory and send a boxfull of figures.
7. Give them to the local YMCA (tax write-off)?
8. Epoxy them onto the top of roadsigns in your community as the Neighborhood Watch.
9. During travel, leave them on the seats of trains, planes, buses, etc. as Easter eggs for travellers.
10. Light one on fire on each Friday in remembrance of a game that was once really darned fun.
Great.....the death of one great game is gonna be rezzed on the pc.....will it retain the FUN and greatness of the tabletops .....I doubt it. But this sucks....there are no players in shawnee cept me and I bought many things and played solitaire quite often....I made mods and terrains that are useless now....who's going to hold tournaments for us now? Nobody... the game will wither and die because there wil be no new figures and new players won't be able to get in the game...and old players will leave due to not having a challenge or something. Weissman....bad move....MK wasn't just a game ....it was something for kids to spend money on instead of drugs, it was the antidrug...ironically called plasticrack....I wonder how many people will turn and go for the mechwarrior game...it seems headed down the wrong path as well seeing as how the new set is APOCALYPSE....what about heroclix?
Is Heroclix destined for a similiar fate? Lets face it new heroes aren't being pumped out every day and because of that they remake figures over and over and over again. Seems to me that is leading up to nowhere fast.
Pirates...while a good game what happens after the steam engines are built? Will we still be able to enjoy the same game we've grown to love or is that also being killed through poor planning...? Rocketmen seems to me like a giant "phase over" type thing to me. While cool in its own right it seems to be pirates in space and when Pirates is scuttled players will scramble to find a new hobby and will probably turn to Rocketmen boosting sales and more than likely accelerating the seasons until it too finally starts to falter and begins to wither....what then?
I suppose what I'm trying to say is this...MK was the first major game they've killed and probably won't be the last. I think this is all just a build up or a scramble to jump start a new game and get sales to rack up. I don't pretend to know what they are planning but I seriously doubt I will buy into any dying games.
I Suppose i'll just come up with my own games with glass beads and knowlegde of the American Civil War.
So many players were willing to put themselves through a guantlet to help revitalize the game like Zengoth and myself. Wizkids then just dropped the game all together,, ,ya know they could have given us some idea that taking the friggin tests was pointless now.
WHAT WAS THE POINT?! 2006 IS STILL PRETTY FAR OFF! You, Weissman, have caused the collapses of one of the GREATEST games in history. I hope you drop the ball in everything you do Weissman!
To the players:
Hopefully this is just a ruse. If not then I have been working on a game. It's cheap to invest in all you need is a few glass beads and a measuring card from pirates and a copy of the rules. For this information
you can email me at [email protected]
May your dice roll boxcars when you need them the most and your enemies roll the snakeyes.
My Khan Rava bounds and uses 1 card for movement and 3 cards (of course red sides only) to fire!!!
Past GenCon I think I'm out of all Wizkids games.
Approved play and customer service has let me down way to many times concerning my award sets for being the National champion. In fact I would not be supprised if I'm not on the list for this years championship (according to approved play doc I should have a automatic invitation).
 I can't believe I have spent so much time trying to dispell the "Rumers" about MKs demise just to be hung out to dry by WizKids.
Maybe they think we will buy into something less then what we have had and enjoyed (Styrene, CCG, Unpanted Minis etc.) But that will not be Mage Knight.
Well, it lasted longer than I thought it would. I think this was the only decision WK could make. 1.0 was great, but had some serious issues that caused it's decline. 2.0 brought some great new aspects to revitilize the game, but had it's own issues to drive people away. If they had kept on bringing out expansions, then announced 3.0 next spring, how wmany people would fall for it again? Another revision this closely would probably not go down so well considering MK's past history. In a couple years, hopefully the animosity will fade away, leaving only the good memories that wil allow a revival to be better recived by all those who remember what a great game this was. And in those copule years, WK COULD take their time and develop this game into what it should be.
Personally, I'm disappointed because I would prefer to see the game revitalized, not cancelled.
However, I'm NOT disappointed that they told us about their decision this month. I would much rather be told the bad news early, than being told after Nexus was released or later in the year. This allows people to think about strategies to keep the game going in one way or another. It also allows those people who want to phase out of the game versus going cold turkey. Finally it allows people, like myself, a heads up to avoid purchasing any more figures. I regularly purchased boosters to support my local venue and was active online. There's no reason for me to continue buying MK's knowing that in 6 short months the competitive gaming environment will disappear.
What I'm saying is that I'm disappointed at the decision, but not disappointed at the timing.
well, i hope its just going to evolve. i've been a faithful fan for many years and to be honest its my only hobby. i stuck with through thick and thin, 2.0 and 1.0. i love this game, and nothing WK does to it is going to change that! if its a different format so be it we'll try it out, but if its the end....... time for us to take games in our own hands. WK's i hope you read this posts because there are alot of people that are not happy about this!
