The PCQ season after a Pro Ciruit will be the format of that Pro Circuit.
So the PCQ's after Pro Circuit New York will be Golden Age because PCNY is Golden Age.
Golden Age= All legal sets. Keep in mind the DGL set becomes legal June 1.
The PCQ's after Pro Circuit INDY will be DC Modern Age because PCINDY is DC Modern Age.
The game has yet to take off in my area and there is no regular tournament scene. I am originally a yugioh player who got into Vs do to the ability to get into a game with great prize support on the ground level. Most other yugioh players have not followed suit however. There has been an increase of people at my local yugioh tourney talking about taking up Vs, but they haven't yet.
A couple of things that I think could help with the new players is to cut down on the number of new mechanics and only put out 3 sets a year instead of four. This would serve to make the initial learning curve less steep. Also fewer set releases would mean more time for people to "catch up"
People dog yugioh for having a static meta, but the game is relatively easy to pick up and you don't need to invest heavily in every new set to stay competitive. Also as a side note, the dominant deck in yugioh now is not Chaos, but goat control.
Chaos isn't the dominate deck because to my knowledge the dragon and the soldier got nuked and are banned for a while.
YGO is a very very very very easy game to play, that is true, but just because something is easy doesn't make it fun. I used to play YGO, and after a while, when the new sets brought nothing new to the game, I quit and took up VS because it is a complex game with so many different angles to take in building decks and competing. More players will come into VS over the summer, because summer means more free time so they can work to get some cash, then spend it on a new game, which they will soon find is a great game, and play it all the time after the summer is over.
