no, if Vs wants to be the ##### of gaming, and pimp it self out, a job previously held by the D20 engine, then fine, but don't expect me to intermingle.
although it would be cool to do a D20 game from all the books.
ok, my drawf who is a fast hero in the future book attacks your wookie faceman from spy craft. and then my aiel with a sword goes crazy looking the dragon reborn!
see, crazyness would ensure, i mean an aiel with a sword is just crazy,
The problem is, most of these licenses have become bought. We'll never Star Wars, LoTR, or DBZ, because someone else owns the license.
However, I do think that Vs. is the probably the best game to make fantasy cards, because the mechanics are so very flexible, and the power-levels are very much set to universal standards. Magic is second, but the land system makes it seem a little odd.
Finally, if you think Kamigawa is a departure for Magic, wouldn't Arabian Nights have also been a departure?
i don't see an eastern or midle eastern feel too far out from european mythical fantasy, it can all take place inthe same time and world, but just different parts of the fantasical world.
like D&D and their vastly different seetings, such as forgotten relams, and raveloft and eberlon and gryffindorf.
i am sure one of those things is not like the other.
Not really. I'd be happy if UDE stuck with comic franchises in VS System for a least another few years. Once they've covered most of the remaining big properties in comics, I can see a better case being made for spreading out the tendrils of what the VS System includes. So long as the VS System keeps with at least semi-serious groups of characters, I don't think it'll be too huge an issue.
A lot of the kids that have jumped to Vs. have done it to get away from the 12 and 13 year olds that Yugi-Ina-Duel-Zatch-Crap-ioh attract are not the crowd they want to sit down across from.
I would have no interest in sets that diverged from DC/Marvel (and maybe a few, very similar super hero genre type indie Comic expansions)
Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Anime/ whatever might bring in a new group....while turning off the group that plays right now...and if they are part of the same competitive play system, you would need to invest in it to remain competitive, no? If I don't want to buy the DBZ set, yet certain PT's are necessary to stay competitive, I'm going to be a very crabby individual. More than likely I stop playing competetively and stop buying all together.
but a 5 drop broken tusk that can attack other hidden characters would be so sweet.
or a royal jelly plot twist that would allow you to k.o. target stunned character an opponent controls and return an alien warrior from your k.o. pile to your front row. (as long as the alien warriors are 1 or 2 drops this would be a great mechanic as well!
and while the game could extend to any licensed product, it doesn't need to extend to all of them.
but gi joe was a marvel title for a long time, and thundercats is a d.c. one now.
both could bring in great new mechanics and equipments and more.
marvel and d.c. fans that are wishing for the game to exclude other properties seem to be singing that song just so they can see more of their favorite characters in the game faster.
nothing wrong with that.
but to be so adamant against other fair characters in the game just seems silly to me personally.
batman has fought predator 3 times now, and supes has fought aliens at least once.
