I'm told that the majority of the population live in the major seven cities along the coast. Two cities accounting for 80% of a population sounds a bit extreme; although I'm no statistical analyzer of population/geography.
trippee: it does but i only gave a random number that popped in my head, some in japan has to be 80% to something. But I know that most of the Population live in Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto (im not really sure what the other major city is)and the area around it, most of Japan is just a bunch of natural preservation.
A short tournament report of TOKYO 10K was posted on Web by Japanese VS publisher (HobbyJapan).
Of course, this is all written in Japanese! Here is digest of digest.
# of Attendance: 65
(You might think "only 65!?". However, It is only 2 month ago when Japanese Marvel Avenger (First Japanese Set) was on sale. Therefore, I think it is not bad. Even in Toronto 10K(which I attended), there were only less than 100 players. very close!)
Format: Avenger Sealed (7 round) and Draft
(Because almost all Japanese players don't have English card, normal constructed tournament is almost impossible in Japan)
There are very few "experienced players" in Japan (less than 10), I think tournament level was very, very low. 2nd day cut line was 4-3 (some of 4-3 player cannot went to day 2).
The winner was Mr.Ki-shi-shi-ta, who is one of the most experienced VS players in Japan. He have played long before Japanese version was on sale, and he can also play at constructed format very well, I think. He will attend PC LA. I have heard that 4 or more Japanese players will attend PCLA.

Because I have no decklist, I don't know how draft goes.

Do you know of any Vs players in the Misawa/Towada area? I play Vs with a few of my friends, but we are looking to play new people and expand on our VS experience.

There are 128 million people living in Japan. I doubt that 80% of those live in 2 cities.
(Ok, I just looked. According to the Wikipedia there are 104 cities with more than 200,000 people, 12 with more than 1 million, Tokyo at the top with about 8, followed by Yokohama with 3, the whole Tokyo-region has about 30 million inhabitants - still almost 100 left for the rest of the country).

Besides Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, Malaysia and others you mean?

I am sorry, but all of my friends playing VS live in Tokyo or Osaka.
I think it is very difficult to find other VS player in your area (Aomori).
