actually 32k, vidi and I split the money, we only played for the title....what can you say, i almost didn't recognize tim, thinking aqualad had actually sprung from the comics to come and haunt us...
- Vidi bringing the beats on the top 8. Vidi - You know you wouldnt have done it without me going into retard strength mode, and throwing Gellerman onto you. It is kind of a good luck charm ;)
- Getting stuck in an elevator.
- Waking up at 4pm on Saturday afternoon, just early enough to catch the end of day 2.
- Tracing back Patch getting punched in the face to a butterfly flapping its wings 1 year ago in China. Atlanta dive bars suck!
- Seeing another Seattle vs. player hold it down into a money finish. Go Kyle.
Originally posted by Dalton Best part of PC Atlanta was seeing someone wearing an FTN shirt carrying the big trophy. Only 1 FTN in the top 8 was disappointing when 3 of us were so close, but atleast Vidi made up for it by winning the whole thing.
My favorite game though was against TJ (both of us sitting at 4-3 I think). Squadron mirror, he rolls a 5 on a 6-sided die only to have me drop the 6. We both miss 1, he hits Melissa into me for 9 on 2. On 3 I hit Speed Demon w/ a Jet, he hits Lady Lark who double power ups and drops another pump on Melissa after Speedy and Lark trade (45-29 his lead after 3). On 4 he drops archer and I drop Hawkeye and the board gets stunned, I'm now at 18 to his 36 (I keep Speed Demon, he keeps Archer). I drop Whizzer and he thinks about who to Enemy for and decides on Feral. Speed Demon twice stuns a Potion'ed Archer and then Whizzer goes to the face for 36 w/ triple pump to put TJ at -10. 60 damage in 3 turns after missing 1 and 2. Feral can't swing back hard enough for the win.
Tennet vs Graham should have been -4 to -4 and gone another turn instead of -5 to -4 win for Tennet.
Yeah, people kept telling me that after the game, and whether they were right or not doesn't matter because I made so many mistakes that game that Tennet deserved to win. First off, my pod 3 deck was horrible (forcing a team only works twice ;) ) with me running only a single 2 drop. Alex cut my deck, and I drew into my 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, THREE Membership Drives, Glass Jaw, and UN Recognition. I could've killed him on 5, but I forgot that Aquaman's attack goes down when there are cards in the KO, and then I wasted a UN Recognition that turn that had I saved until turn 6 I would've won on endurance totals.
I've been replaying that game over and over in my mind, and embarrassingly enough it's been keeping me awake at night thinking about how I let myself be lulled into a false sense of security and victory simply because of my draw. I could go into what if's, but the fact of the matter is Alex was declared the winner of the game because he outplayed me. The only thing I can do is move on and practice more so I don't make dumb mistakes like that in future tournaments.
Best of PCATL? The whole thing. Despite scrubbing in the PCQ on Sunday, I had a great time all 3 days. It's pretty awesome to meet everyone from realms in real life, and I can't wait until the next big event. Stu was right when he said the whole thing is like one big party, and I can't wait for the next one.
We all make mistakes that cost us games. I made a terrible one to knock myself out of top 8 contention. 3rd game of pod 2, playing Donnie Noland, he plays Secret Files on turn 8 and I fail to take a character (not wanting to feed All Too Easy). Well after a boosted Scarecrow and a replace from Air Strike I am 1 card short of empty'ing my deck and turning Solomon Grundy into the beast he deserved to be that game. Likely would have won me the game but instead I lost pretty handily.
Well there's nothing that can be done about the math mistake. I'm just saying that we all make play mistakes of one kind or another. Besides it's hard to anticipate the Balance of Power. I walked by that game on turn 5 and left cause it looked completely over. Came back on turn 6 and didn't really think it looked that much better. I guess Darkseid really is the man though.

Graham could have played into a turn 5 win.
The Math mistake was on the next to last attack on turn 6.
12 ATK against 9 DEF= 3 BEL add the 6 SEL and you have a total of 9. Before the attack Graham was at 6. This would have Graham at -3.
Then the Illusionary Warrior direct for 1 would have the game tied at -4.
I guess I'm done with this thread.
Yeah, it was a math mistake, and Dalton's right, there's nothing that can be done about it now. It happens, no use crying over spilled cards. I guess mastery of basic addition and subtraction is one of the most important skills you can have ;)

When I grow up I want to have the class, the sportsmanship, and the maturity of that guy.
Graham, I have even been second guessing myself over it. I know we talked our way through it afterward, and I know we are fine... but I keep wondering if I should have stayed on the rail to watch after you cracked me up. I didn't let myself watch the match at all, for fear of jinxing it. Maybe I should have stayed.
You know the spiel, if you wouldn't have lost that one... then all the previous matches wouldn't have fallen into place so perfectly.
Getting a Playset of EA Bastion and alternate art Emma Frost 5, picking up my EA Emma Frost 6 from Comic Culture, getting two EA Press The Attacks.
STL representing with 7th in the PC and 3rd in the 10K! :) Congrats to Patrick and Auggie and the Got Game guys, now it's time for someone from Clicks to cash!
Meeting all the great players from different countries, and listening to the South American players oogle EA Emma 6 in a language I couldn't understand.
Breaking my bad streak at all tournaments held at a PC venue by actually winning a few games in the $10K.
Spending Sunday night in downtown ATL with Willoughby and Olav from Metagame, Dean Sohnle, and Dean's friend Mitchell who works at Bioware in Edmonton (home of the best PC RPG's ever.) I don't think I'll ever forget the "keyword" conversation between Olav and Willoughby in my life. Incredibly fun times.
Now that 1.5 years of competitive VS tournaments work to get 10 PCC's without having to LCQ down the drain, I have to try to build up my total again from a big 1 in time for PC San Fran.

Yes people, I am the one who paid Aqualad to do this stunt. It was well worth the 20 dollars, I was willing to pay 35 for him to do it again. But Tim is a noob and turned me down. :ermm:
