I apologize for "Stepping on people's dreams". This isn't, however, the "Dreams" board. Feedback, both positive and negative where appropriate, based on viability is kind of a basic assumption under "General Discussion".
Apology accepted, but disagreement remains. The title of the thread is not "Which Essential Collections would be viable?" I see this thread as a wish list. But then again, I see my whole life as a wish list.

Adult Swim
Essential Collection.
(FLCL would make me buy enough sets to make two fully foil decks. Honestly.)
I'd like to see about two to three ECs a year, all released in between sets.
Suggestions for sets to immediately follow Hellboy:
The Authority (which could include any number of teams to compliment them: Stormwatch, The Monarchy, The Establishment, and maybe a couple others I can't think of.)
Some sort of Image property (Invincible, for example. But there could be others)
It'd probably be better if they made sure the EC releases of 2007 are all from different publishers, just so they can show how far they are wiling to go.

I think this is actually a core cause of "head-butting" on the boards.
For example, I think your main purposes on these forums is to affect a positive change in the game from the player base. To share enthusiasm and a love for the game. This is a good thing.
There are also, however, people like me, who use the boards as an opportunity to share and develop ideas to provide UDE with player-feedback. This involves critique of concepts, friendly debate, and analysis of elements of the game that could be improved so that UDE can better provide the community with what it really wants and what will benefit the game the most. This is also a good thing.
However, these two things do not easily co-exist, as one is enthusiastic in nature and one is analytical.
May I put forth the idea that maybe that's why you and chdb never really got along? ;)

FLCL is super-gay, but if I could play Master Shake I'd go for it
Second, even though I know it is not the greatest idea, what do you think about an Alan Moore dual affiliated deck versus a Grant Morrison dual affiliated deck... for example. The author is one affiliation and the traditional team of the character is the other affiliation.
Oh, and for question #2:
Even though I wouldn't want Team Morrison and Moore to enter the constructed environment for ... "roleplaying reasons" I guess might be the best way to put it ... I would love the chance to prove to everyone that Team Morisson could lay the smackdown on Team Moore.
And I don't think a lot of Moore's character's would get together in a deck very well. But Promethea would make a stunning EC all by itself. And MY personal favorite EC idea for Alan Moore... TOP TEN/SMAX!
Godzilla VS Barugon
Gamera VS Zigra
Samson VS The Vampire Women
Santa Claus VS The Martians
The Robot VS The Aztec Mummy
Earth VS The Spider
Satellite of Love VS Gizmonic Institute
ok... maybe i've been NetFlix'ing too many MSTs lately....

If people really want giant monsters, I'll say it again:
Golden-Age Marvel Monster Stories!
They don't really fit into an expansion-set concept very well, but they're very flavorful, they're something a bit new, and fit into the game itself perfectly.
Superheroes fight Supervillians, yes, but they also fight GIANT MONSTERS ... and Marvel has an old collection of some real gems.

Fing Fang Foom FTW
OMG with art by Mignola and Eric Powell in there?! I am feeling woozy...
First off, Invincible is probably the best superhero comic book in the universe (it's on every cover).
Secondly, it's Image owned, but despite that, Invincible appeared in Marvel Team-up, the short-ran Robert Kirkman Marvel project (which was awesome and closely followed the destruction of Titannus (the skrull 7-drop), the comic series, where he bumped into Spider-man and accidentally beat the crap out of Dr. Octopus not realizing he couldn't take a Superman-esque punch to the chest. That would work well since Marvel Team-up is an upcoming set. He also crossed paths with Batman in an issue of Invincible.
Not only is the series popular, freaking awesome, relevant to the realm of VS, but it just makes sense in the wealth of characters and kickass moments in the series that has become very popular despite only being out for like 5 years.
Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker (who did a bunch of Avengers cards and cards for several other sets -think cosmic rays-) have been the two main artists that have done invincible. Their art is suited so well for VS cards. Drooool. Check out Ottley: http://ryanottley.com/
