One thing I noticed while going through the pictures for MUN ... there are quite a few open ended team ups. There are team ups that give all [affiliated] characters you own their team affiliation, one that gives all the characters you control the affiliations of a leader you control, one that lets you discard a card to gain the team affiliation off the card you discarded. There are Midnight sons with restrictions/costs. [SHIELD requires a bounce, Warbound's is actually easier than Midnight Sons ... but on a team that is a bit more "specific" ... and needs it to team up despite the loner nature].

Seems like an attempt to make the "random" affiliations useful by allowing many ways to easily team them up. Similarly ... it could be a way to help support DC during the "drought" by making it easy to cross them over with Marvel stuff.
