And since you have not seen it, be warned. If you ever decide to watch the movie, there are some words that you may not find appropriate for young children to hear. Also some bloody scenes and deaths of characters.
I've heard similar things about the direct-to-DVD Wonder Woman animovie. It's not a trend I approve of.

I'm still figuring out who thought it was a good idea to make Sinestro Hal's mentor in the Corps.
I honestly thought someone would reply with "Oa" before getting the correct answer of "Qward".
Qward it is. Not located in it's usual place, but then, the Weaponeers weren't the same in the flick as they are in the books, so, there ya go. Those are but a few changes that were not really necessary.

I have the new WW flick downloaded, I just haven't watched it yet. And I dont' approve of some of these silly changes either. Especially the language. Guess I'm just old-fashioned.

Same thing in the flick, tho under different circumstances. And Sin's line about Hal's backside being his (Sin's) after the guardians allow Sin to be the mentor is another thing. Actually, in this flick, Sin volunteers for the job. In the Emerald Dawn storyline, Sin didn't want the task. Interesting differance.
Sin also uses his Sinestro Corps garb in the flick.
Jeez I forgot that. I didn't like that change eitehr. the whole movie was rather "meh."
The Wonder Woman movie is much, much better by the way. It's the best of the animated dircet-to-video realeases so far. Even better than New Frontier, which had too much stuff cut from it, IMHO.

I'm saddened that Steve Englehart never received a nickel, nor even a story credit, for New Frontier, when it's really just an expanded version of his story from Justice League of America #144.
I thought the movie was alright. Wasn't quite convinced by Chris Meloni as Hal, though I thought Michael Madsen as Kilowog quite good. I would have preferred a word-for-word adaptation of either Emerald Dawn or the recent Secret Origins story for the movie's plot than the story we ended up getting.
Anyway, time for a new question.
Name three of the five members of the original Stormwatch Prime.
I agree that JLA 144 was the inspiration (I *love* that story) but New Frontier is pretty radially different. He deserves an acknowledgment, but not royalties, IMHO.
More criminal, I think that his Laughing Fish story was a big part of Batman '89 (changed to personaly grooming products) and he didn't get any credit.

A more obvious rip-off of Stainless Steve is the first two-part episode of Justice League: The Animated Series (wasn't it called "In Blackest Night" or similar?). A line-for-line rewrite of JLofA #'s 140-141, and not so much as a story credit, never mind residuals.
Can you tell I'm a big fan of Englehart's work? His 70's work, anyway; even I acknowledge that he's lost a lot of what he had, in recent decades.
(both Secret Origin preference over Emerald Dawn and a fan of SE's 70's work)
GL: I would rather that they just kept Hal's origin simple like it was, but Secret Origin is at least clever in tying somethings together, and the depth it gives Sinestro is quite welcome.
SE: Who, interestingly enough, was quite into retcons of the above variety, but his were generally good. I still consider his Vision and Scarlet Witch characterizations definitive.

For some reason, I thought the Laughing Fish story was rewrite of a previous story from the 40's. But I could be mistaken. Like the one done later, about the vampire Monk (which I now forget the name of).
