That happens to my wife any time I try to explain the intricacies of what is going on on this forum. Both the HC part and the Mafia part.

Okay. I'm in for your game. I missed the recent newbie game due to my son. Now that he is keeping me up at night I need something to fill my time with.

If you feel you need to take a break all together then you know best, but I've found that just cutting back and doing only 1-2 active games is pretty doable and less stressful.

Yeah, my wife won't even try to learn heroclix. Too complicated and nerds in large numbers scare her.

Hehe. My wife loves the face-to-face game of mafia, where most of the players are vanilla. I told her about this and she thinks that playing online takes away the fun.

I had NO idea that there was a RL version of Mafia. I bet that would be super fun. I learn more and more from you guys every day. RL Mafia and Munchkin are two games that I want to play now.

Having played RL mafia:

There's an upside and a downside.

Upside is that the game finishes in around an hour, instead of a month, discussion and body language actually matter, and the game switches from something that borders on rage, to just overall hilarity.

Downside is that your roles end up having to be very very un-inventive, many roles in online mafia flat-out do. not. work. in RL mafia. Having too many roles makes the night phase take too long, and you know which roles are in the game by the time the first night is over, if they haven't already been broadcast before you started. Conversing with your teammates is absolutely impossible. And there is, of course, the ability to pick out whose head is up and whose is down, simply by sound.

That being said, I ultimately prefer RL mafia over online. Hard to put that group together sometimes, though.

I simply can't picture how RL Mafia would work. How do teams interact? How are actions submitted? Results given? Votes tracked?

Basically during the night phase the mod asks everyone to close their eyes. Then the Mafia gets to open their eyes and decide their actions, then the cop, then the doctor and so on.
