Mel, I was thinking of you when the big news from Afghanistan hit yesterday. I am sure there will be even more high muckety-mucks putting down edicts on any sort of host nation cooperation.
When I was in Iraq, another Army Reserve major, who was also a teacher in his civilian life, was blogging under "Major Andy" or some crap like that. He got killed by our "staunch allies" in the Iraqi Provisional Army or whatever while on a routine training operation. I think the ####tards got like 3 American officers that day. When the news went out on open sources, my ex-girlfriend and a couple other friends freaked out, because Major Andy's description in the media sounded too much like me. Spent a couple days assuring folks it was not me, just some other poor schmuck.

Is it sad that I'm not completely sure what you're talking about?
When these situations are first reported, the names are not released. So people with friends/relatives in the area worry about their friends/relatives.
Unfortunately "terrorist in disguise" is not the usual MO on these. It is usually a real police or soldier who hides his true affiliations until given the opportunity to inflict maximum damage. Several of my old soldiers in one of my old MP companies were wounded by Afghan soldiers well within their base. It sucks.
Mel- I am really surprised that didn't result in some sort of increased Force protection condition or a warning to all commands about the situation.
On the flipside, I would also not be surprised if you were all given a "make sure you speak highly of our Afghani brothers in arms, etc.
Sometime I will share my Maj Nidal Hassan story from well before he became the Ft Hood gunman.
I didn't realize E-Cards was its own separate category for blocking a site, but judging by the link title, I think this guy just may be a national hero.
Mel Storm- Read this , plus there are a couple other linked articles in it.
But don't read it while you are trying to bicycle. Waitaminnut, did an Afghani national give you that bike!? It would explain so much...
