The big difference I see between Waid and Busiek, and Geoff Johns, is that the former two respect what came before them while Johns wipes his butt with it. It's not so much that they use Silver Age characters, but how they use them. Neither Waid nor Busiek would have turned Black Hand into a necrophiliac, to name but one of Johns' offenses.
When Waid turned Dr. Doom into skinsuit Doom that struck me as Waid wiping his butt with Dr. Doom.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Black Hand was one of GL's lamest villains-- and the guy has quite a few lame villains. Even if you don't like the change, the damage is minimal. OTOH, he's turned Sinestro from Snidely Whiplash With a Power Ring into somebody far, far more interesting, somebody one can even sympathize with even if one disagrees with him.
Johns has committed planty of sins, but the good far outweighs the bad. I don't even mind the Black Hand change-- I'm far more ticked off about the Shark. At least that can be easily rectified.
It wasn't until Flash: Rebirth that he really ticked me off. can't say I really like what Waid did with a lot of the mythos, either, though.
Agreed. This new Black Hand is amazing. His back story made me fall in love with the character and love BN even more. He is more than just a "i makz zombi3z! R@WR!" He actually embraces death to its core and became an avatar of Death itself. Creepy but fascinating stuff.
My only real beef right now with Johns is that he brought back Shiera and left Kendra hanging somewhere. Yes, I know Shiera's soul inhabited Kendra's body, I LOVED the Hawkman series before it got canceled, but why did resurrecting Kendra's body turn her into Shiera? I LOVE Shiera and her role in Brightest Day is a great read, but I really loved Kendra's character and the dynamic she had with Carter.
Now she is gone for good(unless someone else decides to change the Hawk history...again) and why? Personally I think Johns just rather have Shiera as Hawkgirl. Since he basically rewrote Green Lantern's history, why not mess with the Hawks? Meh, I love him as a writer but sometimes I don't agree with everything he does.

Uh, why? It was a one-off story...never did I get the sense Dr. Doom would 'stay' that way. It was just another one of his absurd plans to get revenge on Reed.

Because it turned Doom into a one dimensional bad guy, ignoring the various intricacies that made Doom interesting. This is a man who challenged Hell itself to save his mother constantly so he's going to make a disgusting bargain with Hell destroying his childhood love, a woman who was completely devoted to him, just for another chance to take down the FF? I don't think so.

And here I thought he showing Doom was fed up with losing to the FF and was now willing to do anything to beat them. Even compromise his own principles. Doom is nothing if not progressive.
I don't know why everybody has to be the 'same' all the time. Like I said, I never believed for a second we wouldn't get the old Doom back, at any rate. Heck, i had more of a problem with Iron Man going to Latveria and putting Doom in jail...and it wasn't a Doombot! lol..now THAT's 'wiping your butt with' Doctor Doom!
Nobody has to be the same all the time but the change needs to make sense and not damage the integrity of the character. I despise stories where characters start doing things that aren't logically what they would do.

Well, I know how you are about this stuff. We could go all day about it. I don't think it was a 'logical' situation in this case, so what he would 'logically' do was out the window (and has been with Doom on sooo many situations, including his origin) at any rate.
Uh, what does this have to do with the DC 75th Anniversary set?
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash

Hmm. Nothing, I guess.
Back to DC75:
I just inherited the entire run (8 issues) of Steve Ditko's original Shade the Changing Man series.
Now I want him made into Heroclix - both the Ditko version and the Milligan Madness Vest version! I also found out that the Milligan version has waaaaaaay more appearances than the original version, even counting his Suicide Squad time.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
Not surprised as the Original just had the original series and SS while the other had a resonably long run in Vertigo
Another character I wish they would rez

I heard a WizKids employee at Gencon (that I didn't attend) said Arm Fall Off Boy was "absolutely certain" in DC 75. There, it's a rumor. Put it on the list!
: - )
This figure is confirmed in the Watchmen set, but was misprinted as Arm Fall Off Girl.

From Boneyards list I count about 11 that would picque my interest.
Thats a decent number.
However, if a 75th Aniversary doesnt yield some old school dude we may never see them. Here is hoping for:
Still Need (IMHO):
------------------------
Black Condor
Doll Man
Ferro Lad/Ferro
Chemical King Al Pratt (JSA) Commander Steel The Star-Spangled Kid (Pemberton)
The Wizzard Manhunter (Paul Kirk)
Brain Wave
Libra
Fiddler
Rag Doll
Lady Blackhawk
Original Mr. Terrific (Terry)
T.N.T. and Dynamite
The Gambler
Sportsmaster
If some of these dont get made for the 75th Anniversary I think their window of opportunity shrinks even smaller

I'm still expecting this set to be "75th Anniversary" in name only. Kind of like Armor Wars. (And yes, I'm still harping on that.)
