At the risk of contributing something of substance, I'm telling a story from the weekend.
My youngest nephew, Mitch, became an Eagle Scout this weekend. I'll admit I had my concerns about him. His dad isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and his mom, my sister, is a little unhinged which made for what I can only assume was a confusing childhood. And my thoughts on the Scouts is pretty jaded as they're a little too "cult-ish" for my tastes but those things aside, they did put my nephew into the following situation.
His troop was going on a hiking trip. The goal was to reach 1,000 feet. A member of his troop, Chris, has Cerebral Palsy (that's left the left side of him a bit weak). On the hike, the plan was to get everyone so far and then let the more able hikers go on. My nephew decided that he was going to help Chris. The original plan was to take Chis back at the half way point but with Mitch encouraging him, he was determined to make it to 1,000 feet. And made it he did. But making it to 1,000 feet isn't what Chris was most excited about. All the way back, Chris didn't care about what he had overcome physically. He couldn't stop telling his dad how excited he was to have made a friend.
Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of my nephew.
