"Regarding the creep, I never spoke to him about it. But considering that he'd be on the line for the answer, what would you expect him to say? If he were to say "gee, that looks bad, that's terrible!" what would the community response be? "WK should fix it!". Ok, go with that. Is there any way in the world that WK can fix it without diverting time/money/resources away from generating new money and therefore the bottom line? No. So taking any kind of stand would hurt. "
tidge already say so. with just have the dials to print in a website would had been half a solution, at least enough to considere that somebody care about the issue.
and about Karl (Hair10) he is an adopting father or 2 or more childrens (as far asI know) and that make him no less than a SAINT.
While I never had much interaction with him positively or negatively, I never quite got the hatred for him. It always seemed to me that he was an easy target the same way a head coach or a quarterback is on a football team. Are some of the bad things people say about him and attribute to him probably true? Sure. Is he the devil or solely responsible for the downfall of the game and/or modern society as a whole? That's pretty doubtful. Either way he's gone now and there's really no reason to rehash all the reasons some people hated him.
chase figures killed this game, period...if tuttle was the only person responsible for them, then IMO he was as bad as some people think.....bottom line, chase figures killed this game.....if you are going to have a collectable game, then make the pieces collectable.....
i said they would be the end of clix when they came out, and lo & behold shortly thereafter the game is in the dumper.....
It is very poor form to compare and contrast the relationship between HeroClix Consumers (Players, Advocates, etc..) and Mark Tuttle to the very sad issue of domestic abuse.
That being said, not everyone shares a myopic view of what HeroClix can be.
Just because you may not like the 60 character set or the retiring of the R/E/V/U/LE system doesn't mean that everyone else feels the same way you do.
I am not saying Tuttle is a saint. But what is really odd is to see this much hatred so long after the guy is gone. Tuttle didn't kill HeroClix, TOPPS did.
Joe Hauck and Lax Chandra were the "minds" behind some of the things that killed WizKids. They made certain moves in personnel and cuts in the budget to make for a worse environment for the Envoys (whom I don't believe they respected) and the Players.
And while everything may look inexcusable to you based on what you know - you don't know the other side of the story. You can blame WK/Mark for not telling it, but then you demonstrate you don't know how businesses operate.
Yes, it's true - Mark didn't think that the people online had "the right" to treat the product he was responsible for as "theirs" as opposed to "his". But sales of Heroclix was doing better than ever under his leadership -
Here is some points:
1. He was talking with people about the flight stand, did he take notes or write anything down? Or did he just listen, and then just "forgot" what he was told. Memory is very selective, note taking means you will be more on track then just using memory.
2. Tuttle's tone and the way he demean his customers was not good. You never treat your customers like children even if they are children. That's just customer service. If you do not understand that, "then you demonstrate you don't know how businesses operate."
3. As for Karl (Hair10) issue, from the grapevine I heard it was basically a personally clash. Something of the sort that he rub Tuttle the wrong way, again this is a rumor. No offence to you Hair10.
4. Heroclix sales was better, I have heard it go both ways. I heard heroclix sales were dropping, but I have no evidence this is true. I just do not know. Just like the statement that Mark brought Heroclix sales up, but without any evidence to back up that statement, that seems to me to be speculation on your part.
All I know is that Heroclix change dramatically in 2007 (from REV to 60), and little over 2 years time Topps closes down Wizkids. Did this have anything to do with it, it seems so, but with no evidence to back it up it is a speculation on my part.
5. The point that Mark didn't think the right to treat the product as "theirs but his", speaks volumes of his character.
Salu Digby as LeVIathan in clix!
“I used to be a heroclix player like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.”
you know.. I used to meet many married women who defend their bad husbands with this arguments.
Wait, you met a lot of married women who defend their bad husbands by saying it was Topps' fault?
Personally, he was a mixed bag. There were some very good things he did, and some very bad things. I think the good outweighs the bad, but the bad is a lot louder than the good, if that makes sense.

The thing is about all of this Tuttle stuff is that no matter what good folks say he did for the game, it's the bad stuff that sticks in people's heads. You ever notice that with your significant other or kids that one "I hate you" or something similar is much more memorable than 20 "I love yous"? Same with Tuttle. Right, wrong or indifferent, no matter whatever else he did for the game, it's those demeaning/belittling/patronizing comments that stick with me.

Chase figures didn't kill the game, Topps did. HeroClix was the only thing keeping WK alive...chase figures included. WK released too many games that failed and mostly due to a lack of an AP system to support interest in the sales of these games.
Battlestar Galactica Card Game failed due to several reasons.
1. The game released during the hiatus of the "writer's strike". Any momentum due to the popularity of the show was lost when the strike occured.
2. It was just another CCG to many people. While it had some good mechanics and was a fun game that really captured the spirit of the show the gamers just saw it as another CCG in a market full of CCGs.
3. There was no initial support for this game in an Approved Play environment. The AP system for BSG came waaaay after the release of the premiere and had to play catch-up just to perform poorly in Venues.
4. When the AP was being rolled out the BSG community Manager attempted to manage the AP for the line. That failed too.
HorrorClix
1. This game needed to be 100% compatible with HeroClix to have any hope of surviving. It was not. While I had loads of fun playing it, I would have rather liked to be able to have my zombie, vampire, and werewolf hoardes attack Batman, Daredevil, and the Punisher.
2. There was an initial lack of Envoys for this line too. It was supposed to be more casual and the AP system for HrC was rushed and there was a lack of interest and support for AP from WK/TOPPS.
3. The prize kits had to be purchased and they contained 8 (I think it was 8) of the same figure. There was no prize to help draw Players to the events as most people knew you would eventually end up with one of the prizes if you waited long enough.
4. Just as this game was about to get better, with the 60 character set, WK pulled the plug. Nightmares, the last set, just got the same re-organization that Avengers and Justce League had and as much as I like the loss of REV and the 60 figure set for HC it was much more likable for HrC.
Race Day
1. Again, as it seems to be a recurring theme, this game lacked any AP. The game is fun. I am not a racing fan, quite the opposite, but this is a game that you can play for a couple of hours with some friends and really get a kick out of it.
2. There was a serious lack of promotion of this game. This is a problem for most of WK games but I think RD suffered most from this.
Star Wars Pocket Models and Halo Action Clix also suffered due to a lack of AP for these lines. Once WK was finally realized it and tried to implement AP the lines were damaged and dying.
The cuts in AP were not a Mark Tuttle decision. That was from the top. I blame Lax and Joe. They are the main culprits.
Another little anecdote to back this up. Anyone remember GenCon 2 years ago (I think it was 2 years ago) when the WK tournament hall was taken over by Cascade Games? That was a Lax and Joe decision. Look how well that turned out. [sarcasm]Late starting times for games, poor management of the Envoys and tournament hall, and a rude, condescending attitude towards Players and Envoys made these guys a personal hit with many WK loyalists...[/sarcasm]

I agree with most of the points you made but I do have to strongly disagree with the above quoted point. I don't think the game needed to be 100% compatible with Heroclix to survive. I think the game was strong enough and fun enough game of it's own to survive without Heroclix's help. I know some people wanted the figures to be playable with their Heroclix figures, which is fine, but the game didn't need Heroclix to survive. I think what the game needed to survive was to get the rights to more reconizable characters, such as Leatherface, Pumkinhead, Hellraiser, or things like that, so to draw intrest to a game filled with mostly "generic" monster figures.

One of the saddest things about HrC's demise is that WK just got the rights to Freddy and Jason and a few other properties...at least they kicked out that one Collector set (of which I still need to purchase!).
Speaking of GenCon, I hopefully am still going. The new job might interfere, but I'm pretty confident I can make it out there.
I might abbreviate some of my attendance, but it just wouldn't be right if I missed Groovy's Red-Eye Clix Tourney. Felt bad enough skipping it last year in favor of slaughtering orcs...
