I have beaten, been beaten, and as a third party, watched NC getting beaten. Nightcrawler is annoying and In 300 point games a bit cheesey, but not broken.
CSM = broken
he ignores key rules of the game and to beat him you have to build specifically to do so. and the resulting team will likley get owned by other teams not fielding CSM.
There are only 3 things (that are CONSISTENTLY going to be at tournaments) that can beat Nightcrawler. A bad/below average player at the controls, NC being on a below average team, and bad dice rolls. Everything else that people suggest to beat him are too situational or rarely seen to count. (Except in the minds of those who refuse to believe that a figure can be broken.) It's ridiculous that WK ever allowed that figure to be made.
any character that can ignore stealth can put a hurting on him. I have hit him with red arrow and trick shot, and also with a Ultimates Iron man. another tactic is to force him to push or ite him up with some poison.
Crawler and here is why.
Cosmic fears
1 Psy Blast.
2 EW
3 Swarm
4 Any one w/ 4 dam
5 Mystics/ WC
Crawler fears none of the above.
Crawler is indifferent to range and gets 2 saving throws.
Crawler can depend on his team mates to heal him if a mistake is made and he takes damage.
One of these figures can't be played in a 300 point tournament, which is the standard for most major events.
The other one showed up on something like 80% of teams at Clix for the Cure, the last big tournament I can think of (when is clixathon? It's so far away, distance wise, I didn't keep up on it, whereas C4TC is only like a 4 hour drive I didn't embark on).
One of these can make theme at 300, 400 (heck, even 200) point games. The other cannot.
One gets smoked by mystics+wildcards. The other has a ton of other cheap, efficient figures that can pick up the slack, and easily heal with the TA.
One can move your figures wherever he wants, the other one can merely see them wherever they are. One can move through terrain while making a HSS attack, the other can just see through it (with an effective 5 range on the first couple clicks).
As for outwit, it's a moot point. How many figures have outwit and can see through stealth, Or, if you're playing someone good, see through walls?
One is the best figure in the game, the other is the one people think is the best figure in the game (they are wrong, and merely think the best figure would have to be 300+ points).
This.
Nightcrawler is deadly in low point games. Cosmic Spidey is not.
Both characters would like map choice. Spidey is the one who needs it most... and is least likely to get it.
Nightcrawler *does* need a good team built around him (needs AV boost, for example). But Spidey has almost no choice in what team is built around him (if he wants a theme team). Thus, Nightcrawler is more flexible. You do have to play more carefully with Nightcrawler, but the benefits are worth it.
I disagree. There are ways to make NC LETHAL at 300 points. Pairing him with some generic BCF-ers to maximize potential damage output is one way.
No, this problem is easy to solve. Its called EE.
Nightcrawler needs a pit crew 7 squares from him. At 300, you can have the "generic BCF" characters huddled together, in which case they are the targets, not Nightcrawler. And if NC faces a theme team, and he isnt themed, then an open clear terrain map with ranged characters will kill him and his crew.
I guess I have to vote Nightcrawler, here. Cosmic Spider-Man has only two clicks more life than NC, but is a staggering 233 points more! While his dial is chock-full of great powers and a somewhat ridiculous trait, the weight of his point cost does tepmer this a bit. Think of it this way. Would you rather have one Cosmic spider-Man on your team or three Nightcrawlers with 61 points of feats and/or supporting characters? Or turn it around the other way and ask yourself which you'd rather have to face? I think most would say it would be worse facing three Nightcrawlers + added feats than facing one Cosmic Spider-Man.
BTW, I know that NC is a unique figure and you can only field one at a time. If you're hung up on that you're missing the point of the illustration.
Let's Play "Whoizzit?"
My Avatar is an as-yet-un-clixed character. If you know who it is, be the first respondant to correctly identify this character I'll send you some free rep!

Um, while I think Nightcrawler is more potent than Spidey for his points, a team full of Nightcrawlers would not be good. Nightcrawler's best qualities are not just that he's a hard-to-hit HSS character. It's that he can drag someone back to a pit crew of hard-hitting allies. Having Nightcrawler drag an opposing figure next to another Nightcrawler isn't nearly the same thing.
So, if I had to choose between Spidey and 3 Nightcrawlers (and change), I'd go with Spidey.
Both are very powerful. I have to go with Nightcrawler, not just because of his powers which are amazing, but his keywords make it worse.
Being packaged in 300 with Question, Diana Prince, Cap America, and tons of others.
The synergy of the teams you can make with him are the issue. He is beatable, but facing him in 300 with his keyword buddies is excessive.
Cosmic Spidey is one hit away from being just pretty good, not ludicrously broken. Skrullojacket can get rid of hos Power Cosmic, but that is assuming he didn't bring a Bat Ally.
