I'm a big Grant Morrison fan to begin with, so him taking on an X book was bliss too me.
I love nearly everything he's done, though Phantomex and the weapon plus program are a little overdone, but I think most fellow Morrison fans would agree, I should've seen it coming, he can't write without getting at least a little wierd here and there stylistically.
I love the School, I love the Characters acting like they have real personalities, I had Cyclops telling Wolvering not to smoke in the x jet and Wolverine responding "Sorry Space Cadet Summers..."as my desktop for a bit.
Here's the thing, I like Uncanny better, personally, I think Chuck Austen is the best team writer I've seen in years, every single character in that book has more personality than ever before,(Caveat: Except Cyclops, who's not really supposed to have one to begin with, as he is, was, and will always be completely out of his mind.)
Juggernaut Joining the team was terrifying to me, and ended up so well done I still think it's great.
I mean, it's not like the obvious problems aren't there, He's a wanted Criminal, a sociopath, and generally alltogether dislikeable, you just have to read it to get it I guess.
I dunno, starting to go off on a tangent here, but I agree the current X-men lineup is my favorite, and I love the New books... Also, enjoy Grant while you've got it, because he's gone at 153.

Dude, Morrison is just finally writing these characters like real people. In a real marriage there are problems, people get bored, things come up that put strains on the relationship. When that happens people start look else were (a lot of the time without knowing it). Emma wanted Cyclops, she saw what was happening and took advantage. Cyclops acted lost most men would (remember he never "really" touched her). Even Jean made somewhat of a pass at Wolverine in one the issues. Morrison has made them real people, not just superpowers.
Right so if Spiderman suddenly went on welfare started smoking crack and robbing conviant stores because its "Cool grity and realistic" would you be satisfied by that rivating portrayal.Meh this is why i stopped reading X-men after being a fan FOR MOST OF MY LIFE.These arent the X-men anymore its some twisted sickos fanfic at best
Just wanted to point out that Polaris and Chamber aren't really part of the team. Chamber stormed off when Husk hooked up with Angel and Polaris recently tried to kill everyone and is currently in shackles at the mansion. However, Jubilee recently rejoined the team. And am I the only one who thinks Jubilee's regressed. She has ponytails now and she acts younger than ever. For God's sake she debuted in Uncanny #244, we're now on Uncanny #430. Please let her age a little bit like Shadowcat did.

The difference is that making Peter Parker doing that would be going way to far, it would be unrealistic, just to the other extreme. Hushands and wives get bored, people make mistakes, students cause trouble, teenages have sex - its real life. But some people just like cardboard cut outs instead of real character.
Theres only one Return, and it ain't of the King, its of the Jedi.
You guys are all wrong. The Xtreme team actually get off their rear ends, and go out to save the world. They actually fought a villain that had nothing to do with mutant wars. It had been so long since that has happened, I almost forgot it was possible.
Nothing worse than hanging out at the mansion, crying about how everyone hates mutants, with Charie's ever more disturbing world view (Eric's aughing from the grave now).
They should move Nightcrawler, Emma, Cyclops and Wolverine permanently to Xtreme, and flush the rest.
Whie they're at it, Marvel needs to put Salvador Larocca back on full art too.
Until Madrox starts making An Army of One commercials for the gov.
My favorite team was actually the ending roster of Excalibur. Great bunch of characters.
By the way. Am I the only person finding the covers of Trouble and upcoming NYX disturbing? I'm all for cute chicks, but I feel like I'm looking at soft kiddie porn. At least Emma and Mystque are legal. I don't know. It's just kind of bothering me.
I agree on the kiddie porn covers. The girls on the Trouble covers aren't even attractive just kinda dirty lookin'. It's a comic for god's sake can't someone DRAW a cover.

Ugh... to each their own, but Vargas and the Invasion were pretty lame in my opinion. I could stand for new villains, but I'd prefer for them to make me care.
And I really don't understand what's to complain about making them fight purely mutant threats... That's sort of the reason they're there. There's already an Avengers. Just keep it fresh.
I'd also like to point out they're not sitting at the mansion complaining about humans hating mutants, they've been more active towards integration since "New" than they've been in a long time. Charles was outed, the School went public, and there've been two separate occasions of human media reviewing the grounds. This is all in addition to Beast being at work on a solution to humanity dying out.
I think people see the leather costumes and presume everyone is walking around pouting. I really haven't seen this, but like I said, to each their own.
I overreact a bit when defending Xtreme. The book is for us older fans who like the way Claremont does things. The X-Men should mostly fight mutant threats, but variety is the spice of life. Overall the X-Universe is better because all the books are now so different from one another. I'm normally a big Morrison fan, his X-Men just don't grab me the way his Doom Patrol or Animal Man did.
Claremont is about mythic adventure, and long running subplots. His X-Men are almost archetypes or icons. They tend to represent character types to the (pardon the pun) extreme. He does this to create a sense of myth and larger than life personalities. The most three dimensional character is probably Kitty Pryde, as she is essentially his voice, and by extension, our anchor in a maelstrom of larger than life exploits. It's not for everyone, but I like it.
For personal angst and overwrought characters, I read Ultimate Spider-Man.
Gah... Very often in X-Treme's defense there the invocation of Claremont's old writing and saying that its for older fans. I've been a fan for a very, very long time. I really loved Claremonts old work, and it was awesome when he launched X-Men (2nd series) with Jim Lee. But he is not writing nearly as well now, again in my opinion of course.
Angst handled well was Generation X, though Bendis is a savant.
I will be the first to admit that I trash Claremont often, especially concerning the new stories.
The thing is, It's kind of a changing of the gaurd I guess, I remember when I thought he was great, because he, more than any other X writer, did story's about the characters, all the time in australia in the Reaver base, and that era were good, really good, especially for the time.
Now it's him writing the big "Go Change the World" Stories, and it's up to Chuck and Grant to write Characterisation.
I dunno, Extreme just wierds me out sometimes, I don't want to read Aliens Vs. X men anymore, and I don't like alot of his new characters, (Teleport Surfer actually makes me violent, and Lifegaurd isn't much better)
I will say this about Xtreme and It's characters, There are two that have been made much better so far, Tessa, and Bishop, I thought Tessa would be the reason to read the book to begin with, and she hasn't let me down, Sage really is a good character.
Bishop on the other hand, has finally been made one IMO, Before he had his "man from the past" Schtick and that was it, in Xtreme they've elaborated onto who his Father is(Makes the whole time travel, wierd destiny thing make that much more sense) And added this new cop thing too him, which I think so far has been played really well, even when the other writers have been using him.
So yea, Claremont does have some merit, forgive me verbally spanking him time to time, only my opinions, and I'll be the first person to tell you that I don't know jack. I just hate Xmen and any kind of aliens together, and that seems to be his favorite.
I'll be the first to say it. If we ever see The Brood again, it will be way too soon. That's for sure.
All the grat writers still have a clunker here and there. Stan Lee had The Inhumans, and for some reason, everyone seems to feel the need to try and make them work. LET IT GO!
