Well the last time i played against Elite130 i swore i could have seen a bloodlust in his eyes :cheeky:
Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not saying he isn't competitive. He'll even tell
you that. However, unlike the players DBlizzard described, he does enjoy the
game. ;)

Yeah i know that
Although.... again the last time i played him he didnt like the game either :P
Could have been me rolling a 14 with Requiem on his loaded bishop (he rolled a 1 :P )
Or perhaps when i rolled another 14 on his CNC PH and him rolling a 2 :)
He was not a happy camper
Things like that dont really belong in the game, on that i fully agree with him.
But not because they are competitive. But because they are competitive and
actually do seem to enjoy the game. And in doing so they, you, whoever,
come to a public space (forum) and talk about the game. This is not a bad
thing for the most part as it really helps out beginners and struggling vets alike.
But there are always a few who don't neccessarily enjoy the game
but are willing to play if they can have some kind of edge. And unfortunately the good
advice and info on the boards is sometimes turned to evil.
A competitive player who cares about the game is going to try and
better those around them for the sake of future competition.
The competitive player who doesn't care about the game is going to drive players away
by being condescending or just generally a jerk. They are in it for the kill and the trophy.
Comes back to the question, Why do you play?
If you play for the challenge, help those around you become more challenging.
And if your only in it for the prize you are probably playing for the wrong reasons,
and not helping the game or the community.
Just my observation, probably not worth 2 cents to anybody else.
@LeTigre
It's a double-edged sword. If we don't share our advice it is easier for the predators to predate because people have less incling on how to defend against them. But it's true they also get ideas on how to become predators.
However, without discussions like these the predators would still be there and those they predate upon would be more vulnerable so I think on balance strategy, tactic and army discussions are positive. Heck without them I would never have really gotten into the game. They piqued my interest.
@Elite
The whole random thing seems to be a deliberate move to accentuate luck in the game. Requiem isn't exactly an awful piece, incidentally. I think it's worthy of a second-tier place alongside many other Assault 'Mechs. It may not be worthy of Worlds but then, if you use that as your benchmark then 99% of your collection belongs in a landfill.
If I want to play a game of chance ill go to a casino.
I play MW as it is a intelectual exercise.
You threw 14 on average, and threw more on some of the situations you describe.
You played an inferior piece and army and got away with on luck.
You are very skilled player but that match had nothing to do with skill.
That to me is not good in a game. Still you beat me or i should say destroyed me.
But that will work against me only once, next time I meet that Mech i will eat and destroy it......
I am close to a very strong Worlds army already, I know most have to start yet.
Oh you dont have to tell me i totally lucked out on that day :)
And i know how you build your armies, and i am really impressed with it tbh.
I have started thinking about mine... but i dont think i'll get something good together till about a week or two before the actual event.
This uncertainty about what we'll be able to play doesnt help either ffs (i am building one for the current retirement setting, and last 5/6 sets.)

Well that isnt exactly true...
My last worlds army was comprised of almost nothing but second-tier units.
And if i had rolled any better i am quite confident it would have really messed up 90% of the top16.
Saying something "isnt worthy of worlds" is a really bad choice of words, because that you or i might dismiss something doesnt mean no one will play it.
Heck i saw a few pieces at worlds that really amazed me (a SW pure army???)
I really do understand it's a double edged sword. It's just unfortunate.
Every player a predator drives away diminishes the games longevity.
I guess the point I never actually made was that I don't believe the
predator types would go to the trouble of analyzing the units to the
extent the more competitive players do. So in essence a predator gets
your hard earned knowledge without having to work for it. And then
damages the player base.
You should video tape me when some one charges me.
I still consider it a suicide tactic that is a desperation move. Only then is it a vialble tactic. The amount of players that seems determent to defeat me by charging me is distressing. And every time I am genuine surprised.
But then Brinxter is one of those determined to defeat me by charging instead of thinking.....
