Well, i went for dual mech army and choose FP (+1 to heat rolls).
So we have a bit less potent Grinder/Stark/H.lasre with chaep and effective X-axis/Cecil.
Support Anat w TTL/Elit inf., 3xatv/Miniguncycles,3xelemental BA....
I don't like spending a lot on transports and Bishops unlike R10 are just transport and this FP helps X-axis very much, maybe a AnP gear would be appropriate. TTL is just a treat and Elementals are swiss army knife.
Well, if I had to use a second 'Mech, I would be far more likely to lean toward the Raven (for now HS version with decoy; hopefully sometime soon one of the GS models) or a WH Vixen with a recruited GS (or "Deception" when available). IMO, while X-Axis' defense is admirable, I don't like using it over the others (Steiner Raptor w/ Anti-Personnel would be pretty good support).
Anyway, if you had to use energy, you would need some Anti-Personnel or a good ballistic platform (if you don't mind lacking support, a WH Thor recruited with I think H-Class Anti P or no gear works too).
Well i did manage to play game, with a bit different setup.
We both bought booster before the game, i pulled HD Atlas... and he did HS Madcat(better speed and arc to Grinder), which went to me.
So armie was : HS Mad cat/Stark/H.laser,X-axis/Cecil/AnP, Anat/TTL + CT drop, 3xElemental and SH Minigun with FP(+1 heat rolls).
He played rainbow army : Sabertooth with IT,Bishop/WH Carnivore, SW Arrow tank, Saxson/Hoverbike drop, a lot of CBA's and 2 Slyph.
Lot of blocking, he played Desert Wastland in did Caverns (to kill arty,JJ, Vtols and indirect- my Madcat could use Streak).
He over extanded his mech, fail to hit i got X-axis flamers for shout down, my Madcat got locked, after restart he manage to put a dent into X-axis, but failed to make a TD on it, 3 times. Madcat pick up the thorch with critical hit (allthought my H.L fail to activate, i was 14 inches away and could hit normal) and infantry, in fact droped TTL killed Sabertooth off.
I tried to make a H.L. shoot on his Tank but destroyed H.L.
He lost Sabertooth, Hoverbike,Slyph,CBA...
I lost Miniguncycle.
Without using H.L. ever.
Mad Cat has really nice heat dial, with this FP you can push her into 4 click.
Greetings one and all, I have just acquired "Schmutzvogel" w/ Paul Udet for House Steiner.
First, about Udet. Like his stats (+1 speed, +2 attack, +1 defense); good ability (although its usefulness is limited as I will mention); the only think I don't like is his fluff. WK offically said that Steiner officially changed the name of their realms back to Lyran Commonwealth in 3085, but still refer to Udet's force as LAAF (Lryan Alliance Armed Forces); if they are in the AoD, the Army designation is incorrect. Other than the inconsistant fluff, I will give him use in either the Mad Cat or "Schmutzvogel."
Now, for "Schmutzvogel." I was right, it has a 14" ballistic weapon (2" minimum, 4 targets). Now for the kicker, it starts with 21 heavy defense, 10 attack (with lasts for two clicks), 8 speed, and 5 armor piercing damage. The 5 damage lasts for 5 clicks (three of which are armor piercing, then into Streak Missles)! Energy weapons is ho-hum (starts at 3 out to 12" and one target). This would be wonderful had it not been for the ammo pops. Starting with the second click from green, there are minor ammo explosions (and the last click before auto-shutdown has a critical check), which limits "Kill Shot."
Gear wise, I suggest RISC Supercooled Myomer, EC, Anti-Personnel, Reactive Armor, or IT; this is such a great partner for our Mad Cat Mk IV. "Schmutzvogel" opens a target with Armor Piercing, then the Mad Cat can gut the vunerable target for major damage. I would suggest Dom Pride with this one (anything to keep the rampant Ammo explosions in check is good) or FiP pride.
Not sure where to ask this but do any of you guys have the battlforce 11 206pt Mangonel? I would like to know where the repair clicks are as wizkids doesn't show them?
@wolfbane: So what's the point value of Schmutzvogel and Paul? Also, what is the pilot ability? (I didn't see it in your post)
@anybody: What are your ideas on how to best use Starke? I haven't thought of any roles that it could fill better than the other Steiner 'mechs. It is the cheapest and fastest Steiner 'mech with the melee range type, but I haven't found a way to take advantage of it.
Well since it is the only Steiner mech with melee symbol, there isn't much contest,
cheap- i'm afraid not, it's one of most expensive light mech you can find, without having any stats that realy shine (no 14 range, no 4 base damage... and it's stability of damage isn't realy up to Steiner standard ). ) Base speed of 9 is fast for us but suppar to others. The main problem for me is that you have to invest a lot of points to make this mech usable (not having 21 defense) on already costly mech, with pilot and let say evade you have around 170-180 point mech and it's still light.
Most basic setup for Starke would be use of Mila Mazur,Scott Graves or (2,2,1) pilots and full strike or agility (i'm not sure that there is full strike for L, but with JJ and 270 arc- it could be good support killer).
The way I count, there are 3 Steiner melee 'mechs: Starke, the Night Stalker, and Scion with Jasek. Out of these, Starke is the cheapest and fastest. I was thinking maybe it could be a decent "nutcracker." Using close combat attacks aided by gear such as improved myomer, it could easily hit those annoying evade/decoy 'mechs that have been cropping up as of late, making it easy for other units to finish them off.
You are correct, but 'Scion' has melee type only with Jasek and Nightstalker is difficult to use, due to non SU infiltrate. Bear in mind both this mech have a few clicks more and are more verstail, late IT on both of their dials.
To hit you need decent attack and you can reach 12 only with +3 pilots, which brings cost sky high, with Kelly and IM you have light mech that 197 points worth, it can jump 12 inches, can do up to 6 damage, but with 10 cliks and defense of 21 is one trick pony. 'Scion' with LE Jasek and extra ammo is about 210 and can do 7 CC or 3 RC damage dial deep.
I do agree IM card is one of few worth gearing up on 'Strake'.
Did you run 'Starke' in combat, jet ?
I did use Starke with Scott Graves and rapid strike (bad choice of gear) in the storyline II event (the rogue 'mech scenario) along with Verfinsterung, a SH Sylph, and a CW Carnivore. The one round that I remember was a defeat, but it was mostly my fault for deciding to CCAO a damaged enemy assault 'mech rather than charge it, which would have salvaged it and made up for my dead Sylph.
Anyway, does anyone have a good suggestion for using our Uziel (PW HS version)? It is cheap enough to use Plasma Gun and hunt infantry? Is it cheap enough to use as a sidekick?
Well, I'm technically around, but I've not kept up on units seeing as I've been under the radar since just before, umm...the one after Annhilation... oh yes, Domination came on the Scene.
Yes it's been a while and I've only really been active on the Customs scene in the last month. Terrain, mods, mostly paint schemes.
Since going to college, I've not been near an active player group, so in year or two I may dive back in full-force, but I'll be around, comments or none.
