noka: Although I really don't understand how we got completely different results starting from the same build, I have to say that one drops suck beyond belief.
You may have made a good (perhaps unintenionally) choice with all the squadron supreme and awful combo decks, but at a pro circuit with titans and sentinels abound, I suggest leaving the one drops at home.
Well I did beat Sentinels and Titans as well as similar builds to yours twice in day one so I feel our choice was ok. Of course we tested against them all beforehand as well, it's not like we went in blind :)
Try testing yours against ours and see how you get on, we found our deck just edged yours, of course that might be because we don't have your playing ability!
We're talking about player ability here we could discuss on the build 5 years, the strategy behind is really close and that's the player that makes the difference. I came from France to UK just to realise that some players (a lot), no matter the deck they are playing are just playing a lot better than me.
You have a discussion guys that is far far away from basic player skills, it can make a difference for you but for the average player, I don't think that it's making a real difference.

Yeah, although, have to say, I did pretty sucky on the day :(
But a few of the guys on the team played out of this world, including Karl, so dead happy even if I didn't do so well myself!!

It dont matters the deck... its the same... if any1 miss a drop will lose... if any1 dont draw Heroes in reserve or the mansion will lose. both deck use the same strategy to win. but... if MJ has the init on 6 and if he recruit C. America(and same for 5 if he recruit hawkeye lbe)... u will lose, coz at least 1 character will not stun in that turn.

It's nice of you to say so, but I really think that any reasonable player can achieve a great result if they have the right support and practice, practice, practice.
We have a great team of players who work together to make everyone's decks better, the knowledge that any money earned is shared which makes everyone do their best for the entire team, and last but not least a comic/games shop where I can play VS for 2-3 hours a day :)
I'm sorry that this didn't get up on the front page. I'll get something up ASAP.
I didn't even get a chance to put up anything about Texas until that night after playing all day. I guess the other mods were busy this weekend and couldn't put anything up.

Lucky you are, as you said, for most of the time, between a good player and an excellent one the diference is the amount of training and practicing, for exemple, I use to be let's say a "good player at MTG but now instead of practice I have 3 kids at home and a jpob that is taking me 10 hours a day.
When I said "average player" I meant people that especially don't have time to invest a lot in the game, I went to UK to meet especially good players on that point I was not dispointed. Now on the fact to acheive great results, as you said, any "reasonnable player". For the time being, a reasonnable player is for me to stay home with my kids and play twice a month with a bunch of friends, and like this you can't acheive many things (on the game point of view I mean) having great results have a cost and not all of us are able to pay it (notice that if I could play 5 hours a day, I would do so.... but alone I guess).:)
I was Karl's game 10 opponent suffice to say that I was shocked by natashas attack back with triple beatdown. i thought I had pulled back a very tight game, if it had went to turn 8 it was Karl's initiative but with an unstunned magneto a Bastion for turn 8 (which i missed) and Genosha in hand for next turn i felt pretty comfortable. What i would have done for a Flame trap but hey sh*t happens. Well done Karl!
Karl could you tell me how you beat the 5 team deck because I really couldnt work out how to beat it with the Avengers deck.

I didn't need to beat it as it managed to beat itself (sorry Sam). In fact it is 7 teams in total, but any deck like that is going to have an off game - or even two! The sight of Natasha beating the hell out of Magneto will stay with me for a long while.
Yes karl i just checked out the metagame coverage. I dont think Sam had the best of draws but it also looks like you hitting your 1 drop makes a huge difference as he cannot stabalise and you can keep his board relatively small.

Amazing as it may seem, I can't remember a single game where I missed my 1 drop. i do remember missing my 2 drop once, and my 4 drop once, but never my 1 drop. It just establishes board control and ensures you keep it.
Ok, just got back from GenCon, and I thought I'd better explain a little bit about the coverage. I acknowledge that the way the updates went up was a proper pain. Believe me when I say that I lost more sleep over this than anyone involved in the $10k, with the possible exception of the metagame editing staff in the US who were having to get up at around 3am on a weekend to do their jobs.
The problem essentially arose from the fact that the whole event was taking place at a holiday camp which was built with people having fun on holiday in mind more than doing quick coverage. Every couple of rounds I would have to run from the events hall to an internet cafe to upload more content, and at 7pm, this one possible connection to the internet closed each day. This meant that the last couple of rounds of day one had to go up later than the rest. Trust me when I say that nobody was happy about this situation, but there was nothing that could be done.
I apologise to anyone that was left hanging when they expected more coverage. I additionally apologise for the fact that there was slightly less coverage than there could have been - this was a necessity created by my having to dash back and forth during rounds rather than being able to report constantly. As to the one reporter thing - it is not uncommon for $10k events to have a single reporter covering them. It is not as easy as you might think to report on matches as they happen (and believe it or not, every feature match I write is written longhand while matches are going on, no writing up afterwards), and finding enough reporters in a given area and flying them out in bulk is not always possible or appropriate for every $10k. We do all do our best for you guys though.
Tim- I actually thought your writing was great, so while I am not in the field directly and not interested in picking you apart, I still think I know what good writing is and you are absolutely hilarious...."middle-aged man fight", that is some good ####!!!
